The events in this video were cleared with parents beforehand! Spoilers below 👇🏻 . . . The violin in question is a 3/4 violin that the boy’s mom said he had grown out of and needed a new one. She said he didn’t have any particular attachment to it, but he was worried he would get in trouble because of what happened in class. His teacher assured him his parents knew and that he could keep the brand new, much better full-size violin. I got photos with him and signed his old violin afterward, and his parents approved him appearing in this video as well. I recently checked with Caleb’s teacher and he’s doing great! 🎻

Yeah, right. I vaguely remember our music classes in elementary where the class clowns wouldn't miss a single chance to make fun of our usual music teacher, let alone a substitute. And the same attitude continued until almost high school, regardless of the class theme (we only had our music lessons in grades 1-4). My point is I don't think they realized. 6:53 / 6:53 I absolutely loved this! The expressions on the kids faces when they realized their substitute teacher was tone deaf. This prank has got to be one of the best you have come up with yet! You have to do more like this! Anyone who has ever played in an orchestra has probably experienced that one teacher that was so bad, that they made the worse student look like Itzhak Perlman. Does anyone here really think that Rob would replace a violin with anything less than one that is a major step-up as far as quality and tonality is concerned? Just realizing that your real teacher was pranking you, would probably pull everyone closer together. I can only imagine how enjoyable it would be to listen to a bona fide concert violinist playing right in front of me.

I’ve had a genuine substitute do this when I was in Junior High Band. All the students were practicing and doing warm-ups as usual and then the sub says “Start your chromatic scale.” And we all did the chromatic scale and it sounded beautiful. But then the teacher says “Trombones your startup was horrible you have to start like this.” And then she proceeded to demonstrate what we were supposed to do. She played all the wrong notes and wasn’t tonguing and slurring properly. When are actual teacher got back from being sick she said she want going to ask for that teacher anymore.

Mr. Landes, I love your videos and thank you for sharing your gift with us. Are there any programs to buy instruments for students/schools in underprivileged communities that have either never had, or have had cut, their music programs? When I was in middle school, I was one of the last classes to be afforded this precious gift of learning to play a musical instrument before it was cut from the budget. I really think we need to get music back into our elementary, middle, and high schools. We are stealing from our children by not offering them these opportunities for mental enrichment.

I had a passion for violin. i loved my sisters middle school violin teacher before she was my teacher. I was already excited in advance. i dont know if she let me down in middle school, but she was quite mean to me when i was 25 and we were in the same local choir. i really liked my highschool orchestra teacher, but he didnt like me, he spoke badly about me behind my back. he left the 4th year of highschool but returned in the end for a day at the threate, which when i spoke to him, he was very cruel to me. being young, admiring people, being passionate about the violin, i was impressionable. these people were less than human being towards me, let alone failures as a teacher being cruel. also my middle school violin teacher's husband basically ripped my black folder out of my hand, said i wasnt allowed to take it home when i graduated highschool. by then i had it for 7 years, i was 25, it was at the choir performance day. i cant imagine the folder was more than a couple of bucks. but he really had to take it from me, a folder i had for 7 years. he wouldnt even let me pay for it, nothing. he really just sat there and ripped away something so important to me. what held my music for years on end.
