Sean... beside this useful video which was fantastic to understand delay automation, there must be something you could share with us for really sounding that great on your mixes... man ok you have years working on this but I've working for more than 3 now and still can't get nearly as good as your sound... it is Fernando from South America... great job Sean

Hello, I think the maximum left right level in the program you use is 65, and in Studio One the left right level is 100. In this case, what level of left right do you recommend we give double vocals?

Hey Sean, I'm confused about what you're automating there. I have my aux track with the delay. My vocal track is being sent to that bus. I didn't see the aux track so I created the bus as a track. I see it with the aux icon (I'm also using Logic Pro X). But, then, when it comes to automating, I don't see the option to automate Send 1 --> Verse Verb.

How do you route the throws from an auxiliary track. Let’s say .. if I create an aux Chanel strip and then I route all of my main vocals to that aux.. how would I go about automating the delay then ?

thanks! Sean, I'm using this technique but with a doubler effect on the send just to slightly emphasize some punch lines.. I don't feel I need to automate it so would latching then reading the effect be fine? like when I export the track will it be able to still read the effect? hope that makes sense, ha! thanks in advance.
@SeanDivine4 жыл бұрын
that would be automating it, no? :) and yes, automation will export with the bounce

Are you setting the delay return level on the fader? I’ve always left the return at 0 and automated my delay throws by doing let’s say -20db on the throws.
@SeanDivine4 жыл бұрын
for throws, I typically leave the fader at 0 then automate the send... up to you, just personal preference

Why not duplicate the track and just keep the words you want the delay throw for and throw a delay on as an insert with 100% wet setting so that way you don’t have to automate and duck the delay before another part comes in?
@venshakcitybeats52555 жыл бұрын
are u automating the wet knob? volume?

no, we're automating the send amount to the aux track with the delay @ 100% wet

Lets say I've got a delay on the main vocal and also a delay on the overdubs & adlibs.. Is there a possibility of the delayed signal phasing because theres multiple delays playing at the same time?

possibly, not likely - you can check it using a vectorscope / phase correlation meter kzbin.info/www/bejne/oXuZe5qkablrkNk

I just duplicate the track, copy down the word I want and put a delay on that track 100% wet
@Skkyyyyyyyyyyy4 жыл бұрын
That works, but you’re duplicating the track and if you do that for every vocal throw that’s just a lot of unneeded tracks. Plus depending on your delay plugin, that’s more CPU usage.
@BrennanWolf4 жыл бұрын
@@Skkyyyyyyyyyyy That's true, sometimes I'll bounce in place the delay throw to save CPU

What’s frustrating about Logic automation on delay is that you can’t just adjust the echo itself. It’ll only let me automate specific elements of the audio. Very annoying.
@SeanDivine2 жыл бұрын
You can. You need to access the corresponding automation lane. If you put the channel in write mode and move the plugin control you want, then open the automation lanes, you’ll see it and can edit it :)
@treg_setty2 жыл бұрын
@@SeanDivine Awesome. Thanks for the tip
@PANTECHNICONRecordings5 жыл бұрын
Sean, you’re making this WAY too complicated! Just bring up the send level automation lane on the audio track, select the word you want to throw with the marquee tool, then drag the line up with the pointer tool (the break points are automatically inserted at the beginning and end of the marquee selection). A lot more accurate, and much, much faster.
