Those Panels are available on E- Bay. Buy one bigger than you need and cut it with a paper cutter to fit. Watch my video PRO-2004 "Backlight Replacement". Piece of cake.

You may want to disconnect the power to the transformer and high voltage so that now unused circuit that drove the original electroluminescent backlight doesn’t short anything out or if anything gets loose doesn’t touch the hot contacts.

Am I dreaming or did I really just witness the birth of the legend that is your electricians scissors! Haters gonna hate. And you can get EL panels now like was mentioned in the comments a while ago. Actually I believe you can even get EL paint now too!

Do you know how to calibrate your oscilloscopes?

Where did you get the 12 volt supply from? I thought the original lights took 120 volts from that little transformer?
@12voltvids3 жыл бұрын
The original was an EL panel and it ran on about 130vac. I put in led and i grabbed it off the power switch as the unit runs on 12 volts.

That link does not bring up the LED strips, just a bunch of other electronic auctions

Sadly, these scanners that use an Electroluminescence (EL) module to provide light behind the display are extremely hard to retrofit an LED solution. I have replaced many a EL module in the PRO-2004, 2005 and 2006, and a couple of PRO-2022's over the years and I have experimented with one of my own PRO-2006's to discover a viable LED retrofit that would provide the same uniform light dispersion as the stock EL module does but have never really come up with anything that gave the same clean look as those old EL modules did. There used to be a guy selling new EL modules for $20 on Ebay and I bought a slew of them but eventually installed every single one of them over a two year period - including my own. These are still some really great scanners :)

I've been looking for those LED strips but I can't find them what are they actually called?
You can buy the EL back light on eBay and do it right.

I could but then it would be comming out of my pocket because the owner wasn't prepared to pay much. To get one off eBay would have cost about 40 by the time it got here. The owner didn't want to spend more than. 25 total to repair. Owner doesn't care about it now. He died years ago.

@@12voltvids Did you give the man a lifetime warranty at least?
@12voltvids5 жыл бұрын
@@johninjersey Yes I did, and on his satellite receiver than was the first youtube video. This was actually only the second one I shot. This video and the first was really only intended for a few ham radio pals, all of whom are silent keys now. For the non hams out there, a silent key is a ham radio operator that has passed away. A key would be the old telegraph key used for morse code, which is a mode that many older hams used. We used to have to show proficiency in code to get a licence. Those days are gone now. Ham radio is just glorified CB radio these days.

If anyone is interested. You can buy EL material off of eBay that can be trimmed to fit with scissors.

When an EL panel was sourced the seller wants 30 usd for the el panel. Then there is shipping on top of that so by the time it gets here it's probably well over 50.00. The limit on the repair was 40. The owner through it was just an incandescent bulb. When I explained that it was not just a bulb it was an electroluminascent panel he asked if i could throw some LEDs behind it so he could see it in the dark. So I did. I made 40 on this and i had to pick up and deliver it to the big city to boot. So i didn't make anything. This was for an old friend that i had known on the ham radio for many years. An old guy that I have now not heard from in years so i am quite sure he is gone now. If he is still around he would be pushing 100. No pretty it isn't, but I did what i was asked.
