What is the probability scale ⚖ Probability is the likelihood or chance of an event occurring. For example, the probability of flipping a coin and it being heads is ½, because there is 1 way of getting a head and the total number of possible outcomes is 2 (a head or tail) The probability of an impossible event is 0 and the probability of a certain event is 1. The range of possible probabilities is: 0 ≤ P ( A ) ≤ 1 . It is not possible to have a probability less than 0 or greater than 1.The probability scale Maths uses numbers to describe probabilities. Probabilities can be written as fractions, decimals or percentages. You can also use a probability scale, starting at. (impossible) and ending at (certain).

Hello, regarding the probability factors in the 'coin toss' heads/tails, would it be correct to consider the 3rd. possibility of the coin resting on the edge? Please understand that this is in no way a criticism of this great channel and just a thought that 'Chaos Theory' can come into play here also. Thank you.

Is Y not a vowel in the English language?
@skemsen5 жыл бұрын
PotatoTornado - “Used as a vowel in some words”? So are you saying the letter y is defined a consonant in other words? This is quite confusing and challenging not the say the least regarding your probability lesson :-) In my language a letter is only either a vowel or a consonant.
@BigHenFor5 жыл бұрын
@@skemsen You have to look at the languages that influenced the development of the English Language. For example, in written archaic English the phrase "Ye Olde Tea Shoppe" is in modern written English is "The Old Tea Shop." Now the archaic phrase has "Ye" for the word "The". In this, the letter Y is a consonant, as "Ye" is pronounced "Yee". Why? The way scribes borrowed the letter Thorn (th) from Old English to use as an abbreviation for the th sound in scribal Early Modern English. As the letter Thorn looked very similar to the letter Y, people began to say "Ye" instead of "The". Also, there are words in modern English that use the letter Y as only a consonant. As in "yard", "you", and "yet". But Y can be used as a vowel as in "pry", "sty", "say", and "synthetic". Finally, here's a term from Astronomy that would earm you a ton of points in Scrabble - Syzygy. From the Oxford English Dictionary: " syzygy /ˈsɪzɪdʒi / ▸ noun (plural syzygies) 1 Astronomy a conjunction or opposition, especially of the moon with the sun: the planets were aligned in syzygy. 2 a pair of connected or corresponding things. - ORIGIN early 17th century : via late Latin from Greek suzugia, from suzugos ‘yoked, paired’, from sun- ‘with, together’ + the stem of zeugnunai ‘to yoke’." English is a mongrel tongue, whose idiosyncrasies reflect multiple influences on its development. The Oxford Concise English Dictionary is really good in tracking down these influences. I had my own copy when I was a child, and I loved not only looking up words, but looking at the lists in the appendices like the Greek alphabet that filled out the story of English as a language.

BigHenFor - Thank you very much for that explanation with the added scrabble tip :-)
@tecmath5 жыл бұрын
I love that this is the main discussion from this video! My 2 cents...y can act as both as a vowel and as a consonant. In this case in the word probability it makes the vowel ee sound, hence I’ll say you make a valid point!
