Considering mha has 6 seasons, 3 movies and is about to get more naturally there is so much someone can cover in only 10 minutes.

@@motor4X4kombat 1. This arc is genuinely one of the best in the series, written and fighting wise 2. Compare the first season 6 preview and this first season 7 preview, you will notice that season 7’s preview looks way better, also they got more time to produce season 7.

For a show like this, I’m fine with less than amazing animation in some episodes as long as we get multiple insane sequences each season. They are more than worth it. Season 1 had all might vs nomu, season 2 had the deku vs todoroki, season 3 had all for one fight and the deku vs kachan fight. Season 4 had infinite 100 percent, gentle criminal, and endeavor vs nomu (and also I really liked the fight with fat gum in the first cour) and season 5 has multiple good fights in the first cour with nakamura cut being the highlight. And of course the shigaraki backstory scene and fight with re destro. And then season 6 has the miriko scenes (Suzuki is crazy) and the dabi dance, as well as some of the mirio scenes looking amazing. And then of course the muscular fight, and the nagant fight, and finally class 1-A fight. To me, season 6 had the most amount of highlights making it my favorite season. I really don’t think the animation quality has dropped all that much. Every season has had limited animation along with insane highlights. And I see Suzuki is working on the star and stripe fight for the beginning of season 7 so I’m expecting greatness. Imagine both Suzuki and nakamura have cuts in that fight. A boy can dream but we shall see

Exactly, the issue could be resolved so easily…😢just prioritize the sakuga fest for the big relevant fights/moments😢thats the issue, if shigaraki vs redestro or shigi vs deku had nakamurz working on them lets say, the sequence wouldve boosted the show success for sure! I wouldn't say the style was getting old but flatter, the line art was shakier and very uniform while other seasons had more variation on the thickness of the lines and more complex shading.

Agreed, even if you look at the clips he used for season 1 vs season 5, the difference is night and day, better line art, shading and overall better poses early on. All that gets toned down in the later seasons, especially 5. That's also kinda why I preffered season 6 part 2 over 1. Part 1 looked more of the same with some more good looking cuts. Part 2 somewhat fixed that blandness the show was carrying. Without the blue sky, the scenes looked more stylized and it was somewhat of a breath of fresh air. The CGI mixing helped too

greater polishing too, in addition to Umakoshi's constant magical hand in corrections, the second season knew how to make better use of the design of the characters on screen and in the storyboard, there are more circular shapes in the design of the characters giving a friendlier impression of them, Over time all this was lost, even the change in direction was well felt, today it seems like no one is even trying to direct, the animation is on "autopilot" even in the most recent movies lol

I think you hit on the key point: The movies prevent the staff from focusing on the TV anime as much as they should. It's no surprise that season 6 was the best animated season in years because there was no accompanying movie, but now Bones is making a movie once again alongside season 7 so I expect it to look worse.

There is SOME hopeful news for s7 and thats the fact that its rumored to be a shorter season (21 episodes instead of 25 could just be one cour tho) aswell as the fact that if im not mistaken umakoshi is confirmed to be coming back full time for key animation and art direction and not just a helper outter here and there Nothing will help mha reach its peak of animation back during earlier seasons but it could mean good things for the episodes and fights that matter most

Umakoshi doesn't do art direction, that's a totally different thing, think you mean as CAD, but that is not confirmed, even then Umakoshi was more of a CAD then anything else he rarely did much key animation on the show as far as i can remember he only did 3 or 4 cuts over the course of 6 seasons

Your insights on the first 2 seasons were good mostly because they were taken from sakuga blog, but after that they are just mostly guessing and subjective opinions, you didn't bring any insights on season 5 or 6 just saying you dont like the direction and the blue sky (Even though direction became much more ambitious with mukai especially in season 5) And that the show still looks the same (duh)

At this point they are too deep to change the monotone artstyle ,one thing i will give them is that for how complicated the character's design are (at least compared to Mob Psycho) they did a decent job especially for the second season ,you can see the potential in the 2nd and 3rd movie in terms of consistency and direction of the scenes ,but yeah ,for such a big studio to compromise arguably top 5 most popular shows in the last 10 years is sad .

Not every show is blessed with talent like Jjk after all .true that the compositing for this show doesn’t elevate the animation at all and the art direction is bland.but the studio does experiment with the newer cgi backgrounds and puts out good 2d. It was an adaptation for an uprising shonen manga, they got a bunch of veterans to work on it to help it shine and blow up in popularity.

Go was training in house bones. MHA S1 was done in Bones substudio A with a different animation producer. The AniP then had alot of contacts who recently did a movie before MHA S1. Then s2 was moved to bones B, arguably the best animated season and with the most prolific staff. Good schedule too.

It was pretty obvious the issue was Studio Bone’s focus on the MHA movies over the main series. The movies have the animation lacking in the main series. Having a movie being released at the middle of the season airing is very telling on behind the scenes productions going to be a mess.

No it doesn’t, S4 unironically has the strongest animated mha ep due to the fact a movie was in production. You’re comparing animation of a movie which is basically 3 long episodes vs animation of a 25 episode series which the scheduling is way different. But ik why ppl say S4 sucks, and that’s cause of the mirio vs overhaul fight, the fight that was a black bar in the manga, that fight was intentional, it was a directional choice allowed by masahiro mukai. If the season was struggling then deku vs overhaul would’ve struggled in animation as well. For you lot to say the movies affect the anime, you lot still didn’t like S6 the season where there was no movie in production solely due to the fact that deku vs shigaraki was disappointing

The production committee just doesn't care. Instead of taking more risks for the sake of a better adaptation, they restrict their potential to push out more worthless content. Why TF do we have so many filler OVAs? Why was one about CARDS? The Movie will kill Season 7, it explains why it looks exactly like every other Season in the trailer. If they were smart, they'd delay Cour 2 another YEAR to make the best finale they can, but I don''t see that happening. It feels so stupid seeing Metallic Rouge coming out right now and despite having a mid story it's one of Bones's best looking shows. Why doesn't MHA look like that? Why doesn't MHA look like Mob Psycho 100 or Blood Blockade Battlefront? Or a show that actually looks animated in the 2020s like JJK or CSM or Frieren? It's not fair with all the money it's made and how other shows get away with being different for far less. Smh

MHA definitely became more "Corporate vision focused" in the way they create the show if that makes since. Use less costly animators, Less resources on the anime. Continue the 25ep batches. Focus best team and time into movies instead of flagship show. This is the Roadmap Bones has been following since Season 4. The animation isnt bad now. But its missing something that was present during 1-3 time of airing

I use to always rewatch the my hero series right before a new season would start but after season 4 I stopped re watching once I started to notice the dip in art In animation after season 3, still a good show and I still watch the new seasons but after season 3 it wasn’t as fun for me to rewatch again, I’d rather have quality like 1-3 instead of movies

I agree with the movie thing. I like the movies but I would much rather do without them in order to have better quality of the actual show. I do however disagree with your season 1-3 statement. Season 4 was the most enjoyable season for me personally, while season 3 was the least enjoyable, even compared to the newer seasons. This was definitely due to the plot and not due to animation quality though.

it really is as simple as umakoshi not being able to put his imprint on every single episode these days. committees lack of resources always puts a cap on mhas look and production overall. when you see flat colors, a lack of movement or simple storyboards, its not cause the team is bad or lazy. they’re just handicapped by guidelines only the most legendary animators are allowed to ignore. no animator would purposely follow a manga the way mha does. they’ve been instructed to not change anything. in the eyes of bones’ production committee, mha is a cash cow that will be the main financial support of the studio no matter what the anime looks like or does. so they let it be riddled with still frames and rearrange arcs. people will still watch and buy merch, which leaves money for sakuga fests like mob psycho.

Where to begin with this mess. You praising JJKS2 and MAPPA should have been a big red flag. Condensing six seasons and three movies worth of material and allocating all of MHA's hurdles to a few key individuals while ignoring the plethora of other talented animators who have worked on the series over the years is a bad way to present your argument. Cherrypicking scenes from S1 will not change the fact that its an overall less than stellar season compared to everyone else due to how rushed it was as evident of the TV version of the All Might fight. As stated by many people who actually know what they're talking about the work on the movies has never affected the TV series nor have tey taken out animators from them in fact if you bothered to look at the credits for the 3rd movie and S5 they have the exact same animators working on it what came about with S5 was a studio wide issue that effect several shows that was released that year and staff for MHA was sent to help on Sk8 which aired in January of that year and another show Vanitas got hit with delays in the Summer so no the movie had nothing to do with what happened. If you actually bothered to read Vincent's thread he stated that what came about was a normal process and something that was done to prevent animators from getting overworked and degrading the quality as a whole something that happened with JJKS2 where his actual cut was released unfinished and he vowed to never work for MAPPA again. These MHA takes always feel so short-sighted and always come from a lack of understanding of studio BONES and just general disrespect for the staff.

If you watched the video, he never blames the staff for these issues, he constantly pinpoints the bad scheduling, and literally states that despite the later seasons being boring it's still an accomplishment for a long running show to have as consistent quality as mha does, I understand why you would think that, I 99% of the time never blame the animation staff of anything goes wrong, as I know most of these people are either seasoned vets who are genuinely passionate about their jobs, or they're younger animators aspiring to put their best work up for everyone to see, I like to pinpoint the systematic issues within problematic productions, I've had this mindset ever since I've learned the context of the whole dbs battle of gods and resurrection of F arc debacle, this doesn't mean the final product shouldn't be critiqued even if it had a troubled production, the later seasons of mha Bec of this bad schedule have suffered due to the lack of visual variation and by extension the lack of variation suffers bc of the folks who give these bad deadlines to their staff, we need to until this as a time to not attack the staff, but to appreciate them and critique the final project by in large, getting it into the heads of these studio heads that we want the animators to be healthy and happy with their work.

Alright, let's go through this. I have never praised JJK and CSM'S BTS situations, I've made multiple videos highlighting the production issues suffered by them. I didn't claim that the staff departure was responsible for everything, it was just an issue faced by the show (more about this later). When you have people like Mitani and Fujimoto, who consistently animated highlights for multiple seasons leave, that will be an issue. Same for Umakoshi, who's responsible for the designs and can enforce them accurately. I literally said S1 faced production issues and had problems, this isn't an animation breakdown so I focused on the highlights. Thinking that the movie doesn't effect the anime at all is insane. You have what is effectively the same team (plus a few guests) go from producing a season, to a season and a high quality movie, obviously that would effect stuff. As you said, s5 and movie 3 have similar staff lists, if people were involved enough to work on both, wouldn't they do more for the TV anime if the movie didn't exist? I didn't entirely blame the movies either, I literally said movie 1 didn't really effect S3. The movies were simply AN issue. Alongside talent departure caused by the ever increasing demand for "sakuga" within the industry, relying too heavily on a manga 1:1 approach, and a general lack of artistic evolution/poor aesthetic choices etc. I don't know what part of "this amazing staff couldn't do their best due to poor scheduling" came off as disrespectful, but I apologize if it did.

the art style has remained sort of consistent like nailing a few key points just to make sure everything seem fine but the main problem has to be the more simplified designs and stiff animation which to me seems pretty similar to black clover or boruto where the animation and character designs were more flowy and detailed in the starting of the series but became progressively distant from what it used to be.

Seasons 1-3 was special, the animation was way better than what weve gotten since seasons 4-6. I remember a director change has been happening since s4 but the quality overall just isnt reaching what we got in the first 3 seasons in the smallest moments. Movies continue to provide that tho 😅

The Director has always stayed 1:1 with the mango for the most part and that hinders it heavily. Add that to his general uninspired shots or lack of willingness to allow himself or others to play around with the atmosphere, and the resulting product is something that relies heavily on animation that isn't present. That's without mentioning other dumb as fuck directorial decisions, like rearranging the arcs in S5 for the horrid movie. I'd be more forgiving were any of the movies actually good, but they're mostly p. dogshit. I always find it amusing that MHA pioneered the seasonal shounen, and then immediately shot itself in the foot by still doing seasonal shounen shenanigans, like producing filler movies. Then Demon Slayer perfected the formula and that's what we've had sense, with MHA being a relic of the past at this point. The grandpappy that paved the way to make everything better, but ultimately couldn't keep up itself because of horrid production decisions and greed.

I haven't even watched it yet, but I can probably whittle it down to 3 reasons. Seasonal releases, meaning they don't have as much time to work More complex designs of the manga, meaning they have to draw more for every frame It simply isn't as big as it used to be, (i.e. popularity) so it's not as motivating to work on it id imagine. No passion essentially. Or maybe there is but the direction doesn't allow for as much creativity like in seasons 1-3.
