Probiotics Guide: How to Pick the Right Probiotic- Gut Bacteria Overview | Thomas DeLauer… I want to give you the breakdown and a study guide to help you understand what probiotics you should really be looking for. It's been a popular question that's been coming up and I want to address it and give you the signs and give you the research, and one of the probiotic strains I'm going to talk about today is the most researched probiotic strain that exists to date. There have been over 1,000 studies backing it up in over 30 years of research. So I'm going to talk about that one and I'm also going to talk about another one that is extremely, extremely popular. Now I'm not talking about brands, I'm talking about strains. This isn't any kind of pitch or anything, this is literally talking about the different strains of probiotic and you can find them on any label. So it's going to help you understand what you should be looking for, but also understanding the general harmony of the gut biome and how it effects our immune system.
If you haven't already, go ahead and hit that subscribe button so you can see whenever I post a video or go live, and also make sure you turn on notifications so you never, ever miss a beat when it comes down to this channel.
Okay, so let's start with L. rhamnosus. Lol what? Yeah, L. rhamnosus is the most popular, most researched strain of probiotic that is out there, like I said, with over 1,000 studies behind it and over 30 years of research. So L. rhamnosus is a very specific type of lactobacillus, and it's been shown to do a lot of different things within the body, but in order to understand what Lactobacillus rhamnosus does, I want to explain to you a very important cardinal rule, a cardinal educational foundation when it comes down to understanding probiotics and the gut biome in general. It's called competitive adhesion.
You see, whenever anything bad passes through your body, we're talking about a mold, we're talking about a pathogen, bad bacteria, whatever, you name it, as it passes through your body and passes through your intestinal track, passes through your digestive system, it has to latch onto a cell before it can ever cause a problem. So, in an unideal world what'll happen is that mold or that pathogen will attach to the cell and then it will trigger macrophages, or white blood cells, to come on and do their trick and do their whole thing, trigger inflammation, and you get sick, you go through the ropes, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Okay, but if we have a situation where a bad pathogen doesn't have the ability to latch on to the cell in the first place, we don't get sick, we don't have an immune response. So how is this possible? Sounds like it's way too good to be true.
Well when we have good bacteria in the gut, what ends up happening is these good bacteria will latch on to the cell for us. See what we have to remember is good bacteria is still a foreign bacteria, it's still another living being inside of us as a living being. So although it's supposed to be there, it's kind of not supposed to be there. It's sort of like those birds that sit on top of a rhino or a hippo. It's like they’re not born with those birds on them, they also play a critical role in the survival of the hippo or the rhino. So what ends up happening is the good bacteria latch onto the cell and then occupy the spaces where the bad bacteria normally would try to bind. So that's exactly why, if you have more good bacteria than bad bacteria, you're in a situation where the good bacteria will always prevent bad bacteria from making you sick. So that is exactly why they say that you're immune system starts in your gut, and if you're constantly using hand sanitizers or you're constantly heating foods that destroy your gut bacteria, anyway, I digress, that's going to make it a big problem, right?

Thanks for this. I've been looking around lately for information like this. I've been trying to find sources that tell the exact minerals, vitamins, probiotics that we should have in our diets. It's not impossible but it has proven to be hard to find straightforward answers. Maybe I am just bad at researching, but it definitely seems like a lot of the information is convoluted. It was nice to get a straightforward answer for once.

A good strand and high cfu unit is all great, but a cheap manufacturer might encase that in a cheap capsule. The problem then becomes: this great strand dies in the stomach acids before making it into the intestines. Its better to first find a brand reputable in having colonies found during the...poop in the bowl test... (meaning they made it through the stomach in a good casing) than it is to focus solely on strand.

Hey, Thomas. I love your videos, but on this one, I have a question. Why not just eat your probiotics in food: Kefir, Kombucha, Cultured Vegetables--the trilogy, and feed them with prebiotics. They are best if you make them yourself with good quality ingredients. Thats what I do and I've never felt better.

Yes, that is a good idea. However, if you suffer from a specific medical condition that can be solved by acute knowledge such as this it is also helpful to know. For example, you go out to eat and come down with a bad case of diarrhea. You stop by the health store and grab some lactobasillus rhamnosus (that good ole GG baby!) as recommended by your main man Tommy D and voila overnight you're fixed. My point is acute knowledge is always great to know even if blind general practices serve you well overall.
@katie3235
@katie3235 6 жыл бұрын
Agreed. However, if you build a good culture from food and feed it with prebiotic food it will be much stronger. In other words, it will kill pathogens before they get a stronghold. Food is always your best medicine, though knowing the specifics as Thomas gives us is even more power and control. I'm not against knowledge. I just think he should have addressed the foods that contain these good bacteria and yeasts.

Its best to get a probiotic with as many different strands as possible in them and as much of those strains as possible in them. bonanzatime thats stupidly true haha. My experience is just my own honestly. But I've defeated Candida, h pylori and have healed my tears in my intestines with all that plus tons of bone marrow broth and eating clean, all under my doctors guidance. Take it with a grain of salt because yeah its just my experience but that was what my doctor had me do and I still do to this day.
@bonanzatime
@bonanzatime 6 жыл бұрын
Joshuah Jones h pylori? is that the strand of bacteria that healed your candida? ... The very best probiotic I ever have taken is wild fermented coconut water. Let it ferment at least 11 days and up to 16 days. I drank a quart of it all at one time and didn't itch for 9 days. What relief! I don't know what's in it, but it works better than anything else.
@joshuahjones4065
@joshuahjones4065 6 жыл бұрын
bonanzatime no. H pylori is an invasive aggressive intestinal parasite that usually goes hand in hand with Candida unfortunately. It uses hooks and anchors itself into your intestines and just shreds them up. It sucked.

Another good video! Most appreciated. Poor gut diversity of bacterial strains is considered to be 800 and below-typical for those eating a processed, sugary, Western diet. Good diversity for Westerners is 1,200-to 1,400 strains. Normal for aboriginal peoples in Africal and Australia is 1,800 to over 2,000 species, Yes, lots of soluble fiber in their unprocessed diets. As best as possible, maintain Bifidobacteria strains in the colon whose percentage of colonization goes from 60% in infants and children, to 30-40% in early middle age, to 5-10% in late middle age. Also, stay on the bacteroides side as opposed to the firmicutes side of bacterial classification. Firmicuties are the sugar lovers.

I am literally gobsmacked at how many probiotics have acidophilus as the main ingredient. And how many do not have any rhamnosus. Even most that have rhamnosus also have acidophilus listed just before and after it. Same is true for most of the store bought yogurts. Thanks for the heads us. I'm now making my own almond milk yogurt using rhamnosus as the starter. Crazy how easy and idiotproof it is. Making your own probiotic yogurt would make a good video if you're looking for a new topic to cover.

What would you consider "a lot" of Lactobacillus Acidophilus? I have Jaimieson 10 billion with 14 strains of probiotics .5 x 10^9 of this is L.A. What should we be looking for in a daily dose?
