They pick movies to distribute and Cannes I think. So they literally can’t (sorta) miss. They actually do have unsuccessful films like Under The Silver Lake for example but people don’t hear of them because they spend no money on advertisement and play at less theaters and will probably not end up on Netflix. They also exclusively produce movies so they don’t really know how they’re gonna turn out sometimes but they’ll always be worth it because they’ve created a brand around making compelling movies so even if the movie isn’t great or not popular it’s rarely if not ever mediocre or uninteresting.

I have a theory of why the movie is called Problemista. They're talking about how Alejandro immigrates to pursue his dream, and how that makes 'everything more difficult'. Given he's an artist, and as an immigrant of this kind myself, he probably wasn't completely forced to leave his home, but he wanted to because he had a dream, thus making everything 'more difficult' and being someone that makes an unnecessary problem, a problemist-- or problemista in reference to Spanish. Anyway, can't wait for this movie, it looks fantastic!
