Problemos In Cienfuegos 🇨🇺

Time to leave Viñales and head to Cienfuegos, a town i know nothing about and have no place booked to stay. But the trip started off amazingly as I got picked up in a 1950's chocolate brown chevrolet. When I arrived in Cienfuegoes my head was melting and I was desperate to find a room with AC, so i headed into a dentists and asked if they knew of a nearby 'casa'.
The head dentist took me to her home and let me stay there for 2 nights for 15 Euro a night. She took me around her neighborhood and some local lads took me to their mates house to buy some moonshine rum for 500 pesos. I met Cesar in the street and it turns out him and the head dentist were related. Great trip!

The drive to Cienfuegos in the old Chevrolet was nerve-racking. The car had no seatbelts and the driver was either hollering at passers -by out the window or counting money and controlling the wheel with his knees. When I arrived, I randomly met Mamita in a dentists and stayed at her house. She showed me around her old neighborhood 'centro historico' and i bought rum from her dodgy neighbour. I forget what happened after that.

That’s not a 69 .. definitely a 1950s. The 60’s era of Chevy where much longer with long lines like the impala, caprice or more muscle cars like the Camero or Chevelle, corvette. If I had to guess the car you rode in was a Deluxe, which stopped production in 1952

Good fun video, Dan. You have done it now by car, but I always use the ViaZul inter city bus from city to city, cheap as chips and always runs to time. Proof here that the locals will always help you out, nice little casa particular and then you go and mix.I did not know you could buy local rum, and pick up local cigars so cheap. Bet they are as good as a named brands that will set you back 20 euros/quid/dollars. Looking forward to other exploits.....

This is as close to going back to Cuba as I’m prepared to go. I was there 2009. Solo female traveller. I’m an intrepid soul but Cuba had me in tears.India was much easier and I return there annually. Good Vlog job. Thx

Hello, youtube suggested your video to me, It is true that a trip in a Chevrolet to Cienfuegos when you go with more passengers is distressing. The rum you bought is not one of the most exquisite or refined, that's why you ended up not remembering anything. But better that before buying the green label bottle that is much stronger and it is not usual to take it alone. I hope you have taken good experiences from my country I am from Havana

Yeah, seatbelts did not become standard equipment in American cars until 1964. So unless someone had them installed after the fact, the 1950's American cars in Cuba will not have them. As a child I remember my dad's 1960 Buick did not have them.

But the city is not called cienfuegos because of Camilo ,it is called like that cause of a general captain from spain 200 years ago surnamed cienfuegos who allowed some french inmigrans to create this village.

@@rafaelpino4176 My mother told me that the city got its another way: in its early days, it was surrounded by sugarcane plantations, which they would burn just before harvesting (creating "a hundred fires") in order to drive out the snakes, and to burn off the sharp, serrated leaves. A quaint story but probably is not true. But whatever the truth is, it certainly has nothing to do with the 1959 revolution.
