My family and I stayed home and self-isolated this Thanksgiving and will need to stay home and quarantine for a while because we expect this surge in the next few weeks, which will make getting out more risky. We are thankful that we can work from home and have college students who have an online option. We are glad the vaccine will be available soon. This has been a hard year for those of us who have members of our families who are at risk. Thank you for your wonderful videos, Dr. John. We feel less isolated because of your updates and reports. 💞

Here in Medway (immediately next to SWALE area), you would not think there were any restrictions in place. I live looking onto the A2 and during the first lockdown it was eerily quiet, much like a Xmas morning, no traffic at all. Not now though, in fact during the second lockdown it got even busier on the road. It’s no surprise to us that our rate of infection has been rapidly climbing. Our local hospital and those in other surrounding areas are full to the brim with 6 hour waits for those arriving by ambulance before they are seen. The sickest people with no beds are being monitored at home, with medical staff visiting the sickest if required in has-mat suits. So, the R number may be coming down but for those of us in the tier 3 areas it’s getting increasingly scary. I now know of 3 people in my close proximity with COVID, 1 in a coma. It feels like this evil virus is getting ever closer. We are still shielding, don’t go out, wash all shopping and post. Praying it passes over our area soon and that the idiotic Xmas rules won’t bring a dreadful third wave, but fearing it will happen.

have you noticed all the people around you are wearing non compliant masks? they are not n95-n100.... real doctors call them Corona collectors. the virus embeds in the fabric, you breath it through anyways, and are left with a Corona covered mask you repeatedly touch over and over.... there are huge gaps around these masks because they are not custom fit for our faces. lockdowns do the opposite of stopping the virus unless you're under house arrest... putting us all indoors together simulating winter conditions where the virus spreads most rapidly

Last I heard (regarding the half-dose efficacy of the AZ/Oxford vaccine) the hypothesis is that it's due to the immune system attacking the Adenovirus vector when given full dose. This would mean that people produced a less strong immune response to the Coronavirus spike protein. A lower prime dose keeps the immune system slow enough that a better level of memory-B/T cells will have time to be produced. From this perspective the mRNA vaccines are better, given they are coded to make the right epitopes of the virus. Pity they are so expensive and difficult to transport and store. Pfizer and Moderna really need to sell them at cost.
@chrissittlington
@chrissittlington 3 жыл бұрын
However, IF the complete data for the AZ/Oxford vaccine does have 90% efficacy with the half dose / full dose (for all age grouops) and does hinder spread of infection, I'd imagine it would be the most widely used and more beneficial than the expensive profiteering ones.

The antibody tests are very expensive, not very accessable, and don't seem to be very reliable. There are many factors in immunity, but the tests only look for one. The particular covid-19 antibody the test measures declines rapidly after recovery. However, if you are exposed again, your body will quickly produce them en masse to squash it before the virus can make you ill.

Dr. John: I am in the USA. I am 70yo and have been quarantined since last April due to several respiratory and immune system conditions. I was fascinated with the report on MMR Vaccine and the reduction in severity when CVD is contracted. So, why not vaccinate all of the fragile, vulnerable population--as a "mitigation" effort? I am going to annoy my PCP until she gives me that vaccine. If I had a fair certainty that I could avoid hospital, or at least know that I could avoid a respirator/ICU it would mean the world to me. I am the only support for my disabled 50 yo daughter (whose immune system is pretty much trashed). Since our current govt is determined to put money in the pockets of rich American pharma companies rather than protecting us from the worst of the ravages of this disease, I am wondering if you think this mitigation would be a good public health preventative measure? Also, was there any discussion of symptom reduction in younger populations that had Diabetes or copd?

The NY Times report on the results of the Oxford vaccine trial suggested that the volunteers who mistakenly got a half dose initially did not include older people. If true, then the 90% overall effectiveness figure based on that smaller group cannot be relied on and 62% or 70% may be a more realistic number. If I were offered this vaccine now and there were no other choices, I would obviously take it. But if I knew I would be able to get either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine a week later, I would wait that week to get a 94-95% effective vaccine instead.

Their stats for the number of active case have consistently been about ten thousand below the total number of cases all along and the deaths have been in the five thousand mark. It’s just gone up to 6582 today ( Roylab Stats) Today’s numbers NO cases, 243129, recovered 203251, active cases 231477. Would you be able to get Dr. Tallinger on again to find out what is going on. @@karlhawkes3820 , in the United Kingdom and America, as well as most of the world, if a person does the academic work to complete a PHD they get the title " Dr. or Doctor". Dr. John Campbell is a Professor of Nursing in the United Kingdom and the Author of the Anatomy and physiology textbooks that are used AROUND THE WORLD to train nurses, doctors, Emergency Medical Technicians and health personnel. You are showing your ignorance and jealousy when you say " he is not a doctor". Dr. John Campbell's videos have saved the lives of many people all around the world. He has consistently posted daily video updates using evidence based research since January 2020. He accurately predicted the World Pandemic in December of 2019. He has educated his viewers and taught them how to keep themselves and their families safe. He is a voice of integrity and calm reason during dark times.

I would question the assumption that everyone who has not had the virus is still susceptible. There is a lot to suggest the a portion of the population had natural immunity from exposure to other coronaviruses.

There has been some ‘shopping around’ in hotels close to the border of Wales. Young people coming to stay so they can go out to the pubs that are open in Wales, but not in England. I think it’s pathetic tbh, some people seem to be treating the restrictions as a game.

It can sometimes be a means of saving one's sanity. I've travelled by bus to a town down the road in a lower tier when I've felt I simply couldn't stay in the house for a moment longer. I didn't mingle in pubs or restaurants though!

I thought the CDC said it was 8:1. That would give about 1/3rd of the country, over 100m. . I can't find the actual CDC report yet.... , OK I think the discrepancy is that the 53m number is from the end of September, and now it would be over 100m by the same 8:1 ratio applies.

As a family we have decided to not have a christmas gathering this year. Unanimous agreement from all parties to keep the vulnerable members of the family safe. The older people in the family are already living in our household groups so no one is on their own, but we won't be mixing households until this is over!

I live in Texas, and its really a very interesting case. Everything was low at first. The big cities raged during the protests, and Rona was bad. But today the big cities only have small increases in cases, and WEST texas is now learning their lesson and having ridiculous case numbers. Its interesting how once the big cities, dallas houston austin have only a small bump in cases, whereas west texas is raging. El Paso patients have traveled more than 10 hours for a hospital bed, so West is in pain right now.

What about the fact that there were no people in this trial over the age of 55? Can we still assume it's efficacy in older people like me? Do we know if people with type diabetes were among the volunteers for the trial? Can you please find out for us Doc. Thank you for your hard work. Much appreciated.
