Hi Damian, I’m living in Montreal city’ s outskirts in Canada, and we had your “hurricane s tail”. It was not nasty as yours, far from that, but we had a feet of rain in something like 4 hours, which I never seen in my 49 years of my life ! And the rain decided that it would be a “great guest” in my basement, therefore I’ve lost everything from that, my dearest guitar too (SG Epiphone Standard with the white squares onto the fretboard 😢) and my 2 amps. I was trying to save computers (iPads, Macs, PCs, graphic tablets, specials wires, books) and the flooding happened so fast (something like 2 or 3 minutes and it was up to my waist) then I had to let my guitars behind (I had a Fender Stratocaster too) and this is those that I missed much than anything else. I was playing about 3 hours a day since about 5 or 6 years. Useless to say that my days are so empty now. I don’t know if I’ll be able to get another one fast. In fact, I don’t think so. But I bought myself a theory book and I decided to perfect my knowledge while waiting and put money aside. I’m so happy that you saved yours. I will keep listening your videos and take some notes . The waiting will be much easy 😊. As Elvis used to say, “TCB’ and God bless you. Kareen.

Super glad to hear you and yer loved ones made it thru both storms ! Sorry for not inviting you, or at least some of your equipment to our home in north Tampa, but we already had my father in law and some of his belongings that survived Helene. He lived on IRBch and his house was under 5 foot of sea water. Same up here. Power out for four or five days and tons of trees down, but all safe (wife, kids, cats and father in law) and alive including my beloved guitars and drums. Cheers ! I'll drink a cold beer for ya !

I'm so happy for you. The entire Tampa area was fortunate that the storm went a bit south of you. As for your preparations, you did the right thing. You had to leave. You had to choose what belongings and most important guitars to bring. For Katrina in '05, I brought my '54 ES125 and a handful of others, but my son had my '64 Fender Precision, '66 Gibson Melody Maker, '65 Epiphone Texan acoustic, 60s Kay archtop, '76 Jazz bass, '90 Thunderbird bass, and others at the gulf coast house. He took my '68 Telecaster bass and the acoustics with him to safety, but all the others flooded, even with the house being 21' above sea level. I built it at that height because the record storm surge to date had been 19' during Camille in 1969, but it was 24'-11" for Katrina right there by the bay. The Thunderbird was toast, as the side body wings eventually fell off of the instrument besides the corrosion. The Precision, Jazz, Melody Maker, and other electrics were electrically dead, along with amps, recording gear, posters, photos, and memorabilia from my playing days since the 70s. I didn't feel bad at the time because I was blessed that everyone was okay and I had a ton of work ahead of me, there and at my house in New Orleans. Although I wasn't living at the coast house for years, I gutted the house, rebuilt it (rewired, plumbed, refinished interior walls, etc) for my son and his mom. ANYWAY, great job documenting the events you dealt with, and take care.

Damian, your story looks alot like mine. I'm also in the Tampa area. I have two trees in my back yard that completely uprooted. One palm in my front yard snapped off at the trunk. The house is okay. I'm glad your house and guitars made it out alright.

I thought the problem facing a guitarist in a hurricane would be keeping the instrument in tune. Seriously, glad you and yours are fine. Now it's time to play Stormy Monday.

Such a horrible event, but the good will come now and so many ppl who were so divded and polarized are now coming together and helping each other. I wish everyone down south that went through these evil storms all the best and the regions are very much in my Prayers. Be Safe, Be Happy.

I'm so glad you and your family are safe and your property and those precious guitars are intact. We just survived Hurricane Helene here in Western NC last month. I was without power and water for 9 days and my internet wasn't restored until 23 days later. One thing I realized during a natural disaster is that people really do come together. Kudos to your local brewery for offering free food ❤ 🙏

Damian, I'm happy to hear that things went well for you and you made it through this storm. I'm in the area and we faired well also. I'm very grateful for our blessings but it's difficult to be happy because there are so many people lost everything. We have been trying to help others where we can. I'd like to ask your viewers- if you are able- to contribute or donate to your favorite organizations in an effort to help some of those people. Let's count our blessing and share them if we can. Thank you Damian!

I’m down in Naples and I’ve been through a couple hurricanes. This was my first board up and thankfully Milton missed us but unfortunately, it got you a lot closer. Like you I have many guitars to consider and I do have a short ‘must save’ list that out of my 13 is only two: my main Custom Stratocaster and my main Jazz box (Eastman Pisano model). It was good to see you thought ahead and saved what was important. As hard as it is to say, guitars can be replaced, people can’t. Keep up the great lessons.

So glad you, your family, your house, and your guitars made it through OK. We live in St Pete and left for NC after we cleaned up after Helene. We usually spend October in NC and when we left Milton wasn’t really a big concern so I brought a couple of guitars to play but not necessarily the valuable or must-save ones. Milton hit us hard and we have a good amount of water damage plus no power for 4-5 days. Everything was in a case but I have 14 guitars whose fate is a bit in question. Workers have been in to assess the damage and the guitar cases are dry but won’t know for sure until tomorrow. Fingers crossed! Got a cherry ‘72 D28, ‘76 D76, Horton Heat, etc etc near where water got in. They are going to a neighbors tomorrow before the serious dehumidifiers and demo start.
