I do not understand folks who sleep in the clothes they have bean wearing all day - I use a Marino wool base layer stored in a dry sack - Bag liners give you an extra few degrees of warmth so it depends how extreme your camping is - they could be a life saver or a bind - Take care Dan

Hate that they twist but love that they can help keep your bag cleaner and they add a little extra warmth. I stitched some loops into my sleeping bag at the foot box and the shoulders then stitched some cord to the bag liner so I could tie them together, it helped but need to do the same in the middle of the of both which will make it even better

I’ve never tried a liner but I would think they would twist during the night and be annoying. It would be nice if they designed the bag and liner by the same company with snaps (placed at the seams)

I used to get tangled up in mine but I carried on and now I buy the large military cotton type which for me are tri purpose. 1: help keeps that bag clean 2: winter time just an extra layer 3: during hot/summer time can use this along with a thin sleeping bag or even on its own just to help keep out that little bit of possible chill.

Thank you great video. I've never used a liner, but I'm going to give one a try when we go camping this August/Sept, and washing the sleeping bags is not easy. I'm looking into different ways to attach the liners so they don't twist around. So far I have most of the liner secured, its just the opening for the top half that I'm still working on.

Camped a lot of times in all conditions and cant imagine getting in a sleeping bag dressed. Always found it better to lose the layers before bed and have em ready to go on when you get out of the bag. (I have got dressed in a sleeping bag, but never got in a sleeping bag dressed)

I got the oex Furnace +8 liner. Typically I haven't camped since so haven't used it. My thinking was if I can add two or three degrees on my summer bag (OEX Fathom 200) I could maybe get away with using it as a three season. I will be testing that theory this spring. Great video, Dan.

I use them mainly in my expensive down bags to keep them clean. Cleaning a liner bag is *way* easier than a down bag (especially on the trail). I don't bother in my cheaper fibre bags that I don't hike with. I've seen absolutely no noticeable temperature differences with a liner.

I have two silk ones, take em on every trip.. trouble is I never end up usin em. I think a better option is to take a sleeping bag and a quilt as an extra precaution rather than a liner. heres why, because the quilt can double up as a summer sleep system and an added winter warmer.

Like them. Undone stitching 3/4 way down. Over locked down edges to stop silk fraying. Self adhesive Velcro tabs from Amazon. Velcroed in place. Unzip bag liner goes with it. Easy getting in or out. Liner stays put. Just pull out wash and put back in no problem using it. Easy to pee as well 🔥

I use a liner but in conjunction with my down quilt i hate mummy bags can't get comfy in them so i use a liner to give me a layer between my sleep mat and me since my sleep mat is cheap 18 quid one. my quilt was made by my mother and i am toasty warm in the depths of winter in it lofts up by 3+ inches but packs down to near nothing in my pack. but yeah a liner for me is basically used as a sheet to give me a barrier between my sleep mat (and cheap highlander foil mat thing) and myself.

I have only used them, maybe, a handful of times, and have always found them to be constricting for me. So, I have stopped using them. I used to go to sleep in sleeping bags, while in the military, with my boots on...for obvious reasons...and tried them there. Once in the civilian sector, I tried them again, to get a slightly higher temp in the bags, but, didn't really feel a difference. I decided not to have an extra bit of kit to was was worth the effort. I have stuck to "space blankets' instead...whether completely opened up to cover my whole body, or just folded in half for my legs and feet (where I can leave them inside the sleeping bag, and inexpensively replace them if they get ripped/etc.) The "Casualty Blanket" that I first got when I first got into the Infantry...and was subsequently "lost"...is now being used, along with part of an old military sleeping mat, to keep the lower part of my dog's raised bed warm from drafts, and capable of reflecting his own body heat towards him...along with an old civilian sleeping bag on top.

I have had a sleeping bag liner for years. I have used it once as a liner. I was tangled up in it all night. I currently use it as a sleeping pad cover for those trips that I have the dog with me; so far, it has kept her claws from putting a hole in the pad. It seems like a workable idea for keeping a bag clean and adding a few degrees of warmth, but for me, it is too much trouble.

Ive not used one but I did make myself a "camping nightie" from an old double silky sheet a couple of years ago, it keeps my sleeping bag "cleaner" but I can also get away with wearing it outside the sleeping bag if I have to get up. Furnace was worth it but if I need the extra temp it provides over a bag and a silk liner it feels like I'm using the wrong rated sleeping bag. But if you've a cooler bag afbdont mind the slightlier bigger packsize of the furnace it's worth it. All I know is I always end up packing a slightly warmer bag and talking my silk liner as it's more comfortable next to skin

@@lewisfoster9514 thanks for the reply and you make an interesting point. I am a very cold sleeper and I am currently looking at the OEX Leviathan 900 (£175) but I'm also looking at extra options should I feel a little cold, especially as it seems that anything warmer is roughly double that price or more! The silk is an option due to it's smaller pack size (weight isn't an issue as I camp when touring on a motorcycle so size matters most). Comfort doesn't really come in to it as I would be wearing thermals if I was that cold anyway. I'll probably try the silk liner first and take it from there. Thanks again.

A simple light cotton one is all you need to add serious warmth to a sleeping bag. But I do agree they can twist and he annoying. I like to pack light which means a less than ideal sleeping bag in cold temperatures, so a liner adds an extra season to it.

Hi Dan thought I would give you the benefit of my huge experience 😂 Unless you sleep without moving you will just about always get tangled up in them! What I did with mine was to get the misses to sew in 4 tie tags, 2 at the foot end and 2 at shoulders, sorted the problem just about, although in all honesty it was the best of a bad job! I think the theory behind the whole liner thing is to give you probably an extra 1/2-1 season extra warmth and to help keep down bags cleaner for longer. Hope that helps, regards Clive from deepest Dorset 👍

That inside my hammock or tent and I'm just fine even in zero °F and below temps, high winds and rain or snow. With the outer shell I can stay warm and dry even out in the open.
