2006 RAV4 with 3.5L V6 AWD with 272,000 miles and still commuting 5 days a week 3 hours round trip !! its been a great car !! Edit 2024..... RAV4 was kept until the 315000 mile mark. I had to get rid of it due to heavy rust in rockers and unibody frame unfortunately. This was due to my neglect to some extent here in New England. Heavy salt and chemical use on highways ate it from the bottom up. I should have had it undercoated. It still ran well !!

Just picked up a V6 4WD Rav4 for a song with 242K miles and after a few minor issues were sorted out, it is one of the best driving small SUV's I've ever driven and I'm certain has ever existed! It has massive torque and power for it's size and effortlessly accelerates. I'm getting the same fuel economy that our 2012 2.5L 4 cylinder gets ! I would gladly drive this car as my daily. The V6 is the correct version!

@@LoneTinaja Our 2008 we bought used at 175K miles was burning 1 quart per 350 miles. I rebuilt it myself using Toyota parts and Toyota TSB. I replaced the pistons, rings, all oil seals, tensioner and went ahead and replaced the piston and crank bearings. The cylinders were fine, still had factory hash marks! Now at 215K it hasn't burned a single drop of oil since the rebuild and this engine will easily go 500K.

My best friend is a retired mechanic. Did a lot of testing, comparison notes, test drives, and more. Decided on & bought a new '07 RAV4 V6, still drives it. We have done many fishing trips, 4 to 8 hour drives, freeway and Sierra Nevadas, and I did my share of driving. When the time came I bought a new '11 RAV4 V6 and am glad of it. We also each installed 2" trailer hitches (Pays to have a friend w/ mechanic skills) and we tow a 4'+ x 8'+ trailer (sheets of Plywood, gypsum board, etc.) and will pack it high w prunings and trash for dump runs. I do feel fortunate to have lucked into the V6 era, not sure what might be a comparable workhorse when the future comes too soon.

I have the 2012 V6 with about 148,000 kms. Still runs great. Only regular maintenance and repairs, plus the water pump this year. All around great vehicle. I plan to keep it for many more years. BTW, I haul an ATV, tons of gear and a very heavy aluminium canoe on extended trips. Plenty of power. Wish it had a bit more clearance but it's also not a full-sized truck. 1st generation RAV4 is probably the best SUV ever made. Even in Canada, they barely rust. Superb drivetrain, slippery surface handling and traction. Simple reliable design, inline 4 with LOTS of room in the engine bay. Easy to get parts for, since it shares lots of parts with other common Toyotas. And he mentioned the glass headlights. Mine still look brand new at 300,000km. Stay gold.
@grndiesel
@grndiesel 2 жыл бұрын
I agree with all of this. Toyotas usually rot quickly but our 1997 4-door is only starting to show a little crust after over 20 years of ownership. Still has tight and responsive handling after all those years and on rare occasions when something does need fixing, it's easy to repair at home. Such a well engineered vehicle.

I love my 2011 Limited V6. It has every option available in 11. Since I retired, I now only drive about 5-6K miles a year. In the last 5 years I’ve only put 30K miles on it. It only has 103K pampered miles. I use Mobile 1 full synthetic oil and change it every 4K miles. The transmission and rear differential fluid / grease is changed every 30K miles. It’s always garaged and doesn’t have any door dings. The leather interior looks new. I plan on driving it for another 15 years. By then the rubber door seals and CV boots will probably need to be replaced, so I’ll sell it and replace it with a Rav AWD hybrid. That will be the last car I’ll ever have to buy. My wife can enjoy it after I’m dead and gone. LOL

Wow came to this video by chance and curiosity got me as I own a 2010 Rav 4. Very well put together, informative, free advice and definitely on the ball. The only repair I did on my Rav 4 is replaced the right front exhaust sensor as it was tripping out my Engine light. Aside from that, regular oil change, filters etc. gas and go. I drove to NY from Canada many times and tow various trailers for different reasons (Utility, Boat) etc. and still it goes strong. No smoke, no leaks, no wheel bearing changes or shocks, no alignment or rusted parts in 10 yrs (always underwash in winter after snow fall to get rid of salt). Coming from Guyana South America Tropical climate Toyota is legendary. After trying with other makes and many problems - I returned to Toyota Brand, now My wife has a 2019 CHR to go with the Rav 4. I absolutely love my 2011 Rav 4X4 V6 Limited. It’s Gold with Ivory heated leather interior. We average 4-5 feet of snow every winter. My Rav has never let me down. The only thing I dislike about my Rav is that it disengages from 4WD to FWD above 25 mph. It sucks when driving over Snoqualmy pass on I-5 between where I live and Seattle during the winter months. Other than that I have no worries about my Rav. It only has 102K miles. I plan on driving it until it hits the 200K in miles. The oil is changed every 4K miles with Mobile 1, full synthetic oil and the transmission and rear differential are changed every 30K miles. When my Rav wears out, I’m either going to buy a Subaru Forrester touring or a Subaru Solterra. I’ll choose the Subie only because it’s full time AWD. My wife loves her 19 Outback. We have to put it into X mode just to get up our private road and into our garage during our winter months.

@@yawningdoodle I’ve been wanting to get one of those. But I watched a KZbin about a mechanic talking about those new 2.5 engines. He says they are great but they are actually worse engines than the 2.4 oil consuming engines they replaced. He said as the miles go up, they start to consume oil just like the previous generation but the repair is much more expensive and Toyota doesn’t cover it. Says the best way to prevent it from consuming oil is to change the oil every 5,000 instead of 10,000. He also said let the engine warm up during the winter time before driving it. Those two things help prevent the oil consumption issues. In this video he was talking about a Camry with the 2.5, it’s the same engine as the rav4 kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmGpo5WhgMiiosk

I bought a used 2006 Rav4 4x4 last year and it turned out the previous owner neglected to have the oil consumption recall fixed (which would have cost them nothing), which caused serious issues with the engine. Well, I found out the hard way as the time-frame for the free repair had lapsed. Luckily, I paid slightly extra to get the warranty (smart thing to do when buying a used car). So I paid a $300 deductible to have $6000 worth of work done (completely rebuilt engine) by the dealer who I bought it from. Since then, it has been a workhorse and I love it.

I changed the Radio Head using from the standard CD player to a Kenwood that allows me to use both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for $450 in 2019. The only thing I saw was the right rear spring shattered. I had both rear springs changed last year with a name brand and I also changed all the struts' and shocks with name brands. This year I had both O2 sensors replaced as I was getting a P136 and P2238 codes. The car keeps on ticking and passing NYS Inspections. The white pearl paint has maintained but the glaze has slowly stripped away. I will take it in to get re-glazed soon in the Spring 2025. I worked at the Woodstock Ontario RAV 4 manufacturing plant during the pilot of the 2013 model. We were targeting IIHS 5 star crash rating at proto stage, but new crash test indicators from IIHS were introduced mid project and the prototype failed the new small overlap crash test. Countermeasures were swiftly implemented by coordination of design, suppliers, and process, first the material thickness of A pillars and front floor side panels were increased, reinforcement plates designed, tested and implemented into process and finally a bolted reinforcement plate was added to interior assembly. This resulted in our target improvement in our crash rating. The new model in 2018 had an Underbody motor compartment redesign to eliminate the weakness characteristic. And yes it was only on the LH side
