If the motors are still around I would consider buying a 1 to 3 phase converter and use on your current or new stripper. 5 HP seems to get the job done. Anything goes wrong with the motor you have 100% replacement spares.

I do have a few converters. I have a 5 hp, 10 hp (needs capacitors) and a 50 hp phase converter that I can't run because it needs 110 amps and I only have a 100 amp service. lol

Hey my bro, you're a smart dude, all you need to do is build yourself a rotary phase convertor. Because they are 5HP, you can't get away with a static convertor, which is just a capacitor and a relay basically. The rotary convertor is just a 230V motor with no load used to create a 3rd leg, then you have L1, L2 and L3, it's very easy to do and there are plenty of YT videos to help you. You've got some metal enclosures and plenty of wire/transformers/relays/wire nuts to get you started. Those are some TEM - totally enclosed 5HP motors, they are worth a fortune to anyone that needs them. If they were 480V, forget it, but you'll have no problem using them. I can run my Mill and Lathe off of 1 static convertor because they are only 1 or 2HP each.
@ProjectShopFl2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info, I have 3 roto phase generator. A 5 hp one for my mill and lathe, a 10 hp I want to set up to bench test stuff and a 50 hp one I got from a airport. I've made videos on it.

So I've been wondering, is it always worth it to make the 2hr trip each way to that scrap yard? I'd be surprised if there wasn't a few scrap yards closer to you that you could hit instead of having to spend the profit in time and fuel. You said in a previous video that you usually have a couple customers lined up for the return trip, so what do you do if you have no stops to make on the way back?
@ProjectShopFl2 жыл бұрын
There are probably 20 scrap yards closer but the place I go to buys from them. lol Usually I would not go to the scrap yard with out having some pick up's to do but I was running out of room in the shop and I did a different kind of recycling on my way back that I have not yet put on the channel.

Not sure the buyer agrees with the secret sauce. I get it but I am not sure I would bring attention to it. Are you weighing each of the lights? How much more are you making driving down to MIA versus local? happy Hunting!
@ProjectShopFl2 жыл бұрын
I did weigh the lights, usually I would weigh 1 and count them. These were all in a different state of disassembling and some were retrofitted. On taking scrap to Miami its worth it for me because I not only get paid more across the board I have lots of customers in Miami and Broward county that I usually pick up from on the way back.
@nachostuff2 жыл бұрын
@@ProjectShopFl Makes sense - thanks for the reply. Are you weighing to make sure you get paid right? I know many people are leary to whether the weigh they bring is the weight they get paid for.

I have 3 of them, a 5 hp for my mill and lathe, a 10 hp and a 50 hp. The 10 hp I need to replace the capacitors, the 50 hp draws over 100 amps so I can't run that in my shop.

I got a question, in one of your other videos u mention the scrapyard you sell to is a industrial scrapyards and that why they purchase your scrap at a higher price. How do you find a scrapyard like this cuz the scrap i go to rip me off my copper (even tho it was a small amount of copper just to test them) and they have multiple location in my state. I basically got 2.40 a lbs for copper
@ProjectShopFl2 жыл бұрын
The place I sell to is an exporter, they only but from scrap yards and large industrial operations. They don't really buy from the general public.
