This machine will come in handy at De Chateau La Lande too. Wow! My husband always cut the wood too long and it wouldn't fit in the stove. My question, who's going to stack it all? 'Cause I can tell you, it's a bitch to go out there in winter and try to pull that wood out, all wet and not wanting to burn. Been there, done that.

Excellent idea ...always remembering its origin. I think sailors' wives would go up to a "crow's nest" on top of their houses in Boston to look out over the bay ^ and see if their husbands' ships had come in ...before electricity & phones, etc.

Nick has all the fun BOY TOYS , you will need to start heating the Yurt otherwise your mattress will start getting damp and the new leather sofa will start to mold 😞. Things are moving so fast at the moment and fixing the top walls will be epic as it won't be long before the first roof goes up and it's not even September yet !!! WELL DONE DAN !!!
@thomasherrin6798 Жыл бұрын
It will still be a slog to finish the roof before Winter sets in, it's a pity that all the window lintels need replacing, it will take about three or four weeks to get the structure up to roof level, but sorting out the roof sections was always going to be the time consuming part and at least he's getting there, hopefully he will not have to many "interruptions", I wonder if he's going for a temporary or permanent roof, most probably temporary for now!?!
@monteschiavo Жыл бұрын
@@thomasherrin6798 do you know the roof of a castle? do you know how difficult and different from a normal roof it is? A roof of a castle needs a specialist, do you have never seen one? Roof and attic?
@Ragnar8504 Жыл бұрын
@@mlaiuppa It could be done though, as the rafters used to run parallel to that main wall with the fireplaces, so extending the roof framing over the central hallway later wouldn't require any splicing. Just let the sarking and membrane overhang the last rafter and cut back once the next rafters go in. I think the section could even be slated without too much hassle. It's not uncommon to do large roofs in sections, like Château de Purnon. Only the chimneys would have to be fixed to above roof level before that could happen because the mansard roof runs into them. Of course just doing a shed roof bolting a wall plate to that fireplace wall and running rafters to the outside wall would be faster and easier but it's work that will have to be done over in the foreseeable future.

Dan put a plastic skin over that second story floor once you got it all in. It will give you cover beneath on the first floor for a huge amount of undercover workspace and any water that lands on top will be redirected down the sides to the basement below. That will give you lots of extra time to get sorted inside while you repair all the walls, windows and doors and slowly build the third floor. (I didnt realise till you pointed it out just how much work you need to do to stabilise the tops of the walls and second story windows) As it stands right now all that water is just coming down in a shower between the boards and you don't have any undercover area to store long lengths of boards or even the bags of cement and lime.
