Procession of the Nobles by N. Rimsky-Korsakov - Organ Transcription.

This performance is on the Hauptwerk system using the Notre Dame d Metz 1903 Caville-Coll organ sample set provided by Milan Digital Audio. The transcription is my own. This video replaced a camera video version and this time used camvideo to direct capture audio and video.
I supplied the transcription years ago to Thomas Murray who did use it on an album. It was a gift to him after hearing him play locally. Someone noted the performance and I was gratified to see how similar registrations and tempos were. I did exchange messages with Mr. Murray. He notes how people often tell him that they played the tune in band, and that's where I was introduced to it as a euphonium/baritone horn player. I always thought it would work well on the organ.

When I give out the transcriptions I have asked for a video as compensation for my work. I have never had that happen. The premier performance was at Highland Park United Methodist church in Dallas in a recital given by my late friend Robert MacDonald. Robert played Radio City Music hall as well as Riverside church before coming to Texas. He retired in the Boston area near family. There is a live recording of Thomas Murray on this link and when someone pointed it I contacted Mr. Murray and he confirmed it was my arrangement. The link is in the notes to hear a live recording. I remember when I gave it to Robert that he looked at the pedal / tympani solo in the end of the chart and assumed that it was written by a 'band person' who wasn't familiar with the organ. I got on the bench and demonstrated how I did it. His response was 'oh'. Then he took it on and did the premier. I have been thinking about old friends who are gone now today Ifunny you should mention it) and am planning to go to an accordion meeting and play 'Deep River' one of my favorite spirituals for them. I hope I can do it as I am rusty and will be somewhat emotional. It would be nice to hear it performed lived again - that was probably 20 years ago.

I don't see why not. When I selected audio it allowed me to choose from any of the M-audio 1010's outputs. You can limit it to a particular part of the screen, and it is pretty efficent. The AVI doesn't take much memory once the screen is drawn beacuase only a few things on the screen change.

Thanks for your advice, camvideo software creates the AVI and then its pretty easy to edit from there. Didn't use the hauptwerk recording bit. Will have more transcriptions coming. One reason I am using the Metz organ is that it has wet samples. Others are dry and the sound comes out too dry. I could probably add reverb after the fact tho - will look into that. Then I could use other organs.

Yes we're all waiting eagerly for your version. Show us how it should be played O river of knowledge. Be sure to let me know when you've transcribed and performed it so I can learn from you. After all there is no room for any interpretation or version that would be different what you would approve of.

Great Transcription!! French romantic organs are literally mini orchestras in a box! Sadly the percussion was left by the wayside...good news for me as i can add it in at home!

it is a hauptwerk digital organ. the organ sounds very much like the original Notre Dame D Metz organ. What you could have said was I like the sound of an orchestra better than an Organ, and even better in a dry hall. In this case, the hall reverb is that of the sample set. Hauptwerk uses digital samples of the pipes, in fact many samples for each pipe. However, even most halls have 1 second or so of reverb.
