Dear Jam Jam Reactions, imagine that from 1992 to 2018 I was able to listen to this piece live and, along with the audience, soak up the energy of this work and admire the voice of Gary Brooker. There were different concerts, many versions great or ordinary, but always standing and breathless. I would also add that the 2006 version is simply brilliant. Brooker's vocals are knockout and show, as sci-fi writer Douglas Adams once said about Brooker's voice, that people underestimate what a gem they have.

How awesome it must be to be able with just your voice touch people so profoundly. I've never really been able to sing that well that I enjoy singing and I would just love to think that my voice could profoundly affect someone that way. And I have yet to really figure out why this song touches such an emotional string with so many people.

This song was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The original is longer and was a huge hit in the 60's. I have always loved this song and Gary Broker's voice aged like fine wine. Unfortunately Gary died in Feb 2022 from cancer. RIP

This is an epic song from what is the soundtrack of my life.... Symphonic rock was part of the Progressive Rock movement from the late 60's that came and went until the 1980's. The Moody Blues also are worth a listen. Knights in White Satin was their magnum opus.

indeed, I know the song also from back then, even though it has not tremendously impacted on me - but (now as I have had also a thorough musical education (even harpsichord) - I am really struck by this performance; his voice is way better too than back in the 1960s and this version is beyond superb (mostly it is the other way around). And even me, beyond 60 years old, I get tears every time I hear it... true art never leaves you untouched or indifferent

The soundtrack of my youth - I turned 16 in 1967. It is Denmark - and it still happens every summer at the parks in the cities or at a castle as here. Nothing "happens" - and the audience has food and wine and furniture from their gardens - - sad that it isn't a possibility where you live.

Beautiful reaction to a remade classic from the late 60s! The band is called Procul Harum (Pro-cull Hair-rum) and the guy singing is Gary Brooker who sadly passed away in February 2022. The Denmark National Symphony Orchestra brought this song to an entirely different level!

I still remember being transported to places I'd never been before when I first heard this song in 1967 as a school boy. Have not stopped listening to Procol Harum ever since and have all their albums and dvd's. I have seen them live 8 times (5 with orchestra) and it would have been more if not for Gary's passing last February. It was good to see you appreciate what you had seen for the first time and reminded me of the first hearing I had so vert long ago.

We appreciate you for being so real and sharing your experience with us. I saw them twice in the 70s and the shows were magical. Gary Brooker had such a unique and powerful voice and I was sad the day he passed away. Music during the 60s 70s and 80s took you on a journey thru the music and brought you back feeling so much better. The talent back then was true talent not some computer generated track with no real soul. I miss those days tremendously. Music is just not the same these days. Thanks again for posting, you have a beautiful soul and I wish you the best.

❤ Step 1 - Orchestra prelude Step 2 - Gary Brooker and orchestra Step 3 - Gary Brooker + orchestra + band (Procol Harum) + choir “A WHITER SHADE OF PALE” was released by Procol Harum in 1967 and it was their first single ❤ RIP Gary Brooker 1945 - 2022 *PROCOL HARUM is a latin expression that means "beyond these things”, but the legend tells that was a Burmese Blue cat, that belonged to a friend of the band and that he lived until 1972. The cat’s name was actually Procul Harun, but the cat’s name was misspelled.

the lyrics contain a considerable amount of period context. in this case psycodelic way. Mixed emotions than one used to feel on the occasion of a first meeting between a boy and a girl. nervousness expectations, shame, desire to be reciprocated. I don't know if it's still like that today... but at that time it was exactly how we felt. the music brings all these sensations back to those who lived and was young in that time. Thx Procol thx Johan sebastian bach! Because without the "air G string" this one would not be possible to exist.

I have watched this a hundred times -- it is amazing -- very glad you're showing it; i find it extremely emotional & cry every time i hear it. What you said is so true that things have changed & we are unable to do simple things that we were once able to enjoy -- i know this all too well because i grew up in the early '50's & have seen tremendous changes -- unfortunately, more bad than good & miss tremendously the freedoms we have lost due to those not-so-good changes. On a more upbeat note, how about some Chuck Berry w-Etta James at kzbin.info/www/bejne/bIaXqWyjhpp-ZtU doing "Rock and Roll Music (1986)." Terrific performance. Thank you so much.

stephen - was it originally written for the organ and then adapted to to strings or vice versa or as one piece , i looked up its history but it wasn't clear as to which came first
@JamesDolen-dn6wz5 ай бұрын
Original organist Matthew Fisher was inspired by Bach’s Sleepers Awake but his melody is original. This was confirmed by a British judge who was also a trained classical musician when Matthew sued Gary for a share of the compositional royalties. A Court of Appeals agreed and so did the House of Lords.
