One of my favorite Procol Harum songs. B.J. Wilson's drumming is amazing here.

The band was never the same after Robin left. Trower and Wilson held them together as was demonstrated on their first 2 albums. I still have the original 1967 release. Christmas Camel is also a masterpiece. Such a pity that Trowers's wizardry did not come through on this priceless video footage.

Gary Brooker's piano solo at 2:16 - 2:58 never fails to bring tears to my eyes. Beautiful and unforgettable. And the hooded Matthew Fisher....how cool and original was that? Gary was one hell of a good looking guy back then. Still is today.

Ave Maria was just Gounod taking Bach's WTC1 Prelude 1 and overlaying a song on it. The piece in Repent Walpurgis is just the raw Bach, with nothing of Gounod's.

I never pass up the opportunity to hear and see this PH classic if I find on on youtube-----to date this is easily the best version I've seen. A crime that Robin is nearly mixed right out of existence here. He can certainly see and vaguely hear his brilliant work------but this is BJ at just about his best and that alone makes this worth it. What a terrific band these guys were.

Robluk1973: This is surely the best video ever of the first line up- especially when the camera glides back and forth- what a mighty band!! And Robin's playing through a twin stack of Marshalls- he must have been bloody loud, tho he's lost in the mix here Do you know if any more of this Midem performance exists? Thanks!

Dave is right! The sound dominated by keyboards which is great but the guitar solo would've been outstanding IF it'd been in the mix! Sabotage? Still LOVE it all the same. Great to see that monks robe again, cool Matthew Fisher.
@jamesdolen51328 жыл бұрын
I agree. It would of course be even better with Robin at full strength but I love this one too. Also, BJ does his usual great job on drums, complete with that emphatic " Whack!" at the very end.

I bet this can be remixed. I do hear the guitar, but I have dog ears.
@jamesdolen51322 жыл бұрын
I could hardly hear RT’ ‘s normally fiery solos. They make the Bach passage even more effective. But it did highlight the double keyboards basis of the band’s music which not many groups were doing at that time.

@nemorable18 жыл бұрын
Terrible video. Trower's guitar can't be heard. The guitar, essential to this piece, is barely in the mix. To claim that the keyboards, bass and drums, alone, are good enough is silly.
@jduff598 жыл бұрын
Shameful, really. There's such a scarcity of videos with this line-up, and you just know Robin's shredding that SG for all it's worth, only to be denied hearing him! Still cool to see a video with this great PH line-up.

I agree, but this piece lies essentially on the blend of organ and piano.
