This is one of my favorite gems by PH which is so sublime that I personally believe they are one of the greatest musical units of any genres of our time (20th and 21st centuries). While many great Classic Rock tunes sound rather dated when you listen to them now, most of the Procol Harum's music sound timeless, thanks to the great lyrics and compositions, very advanced performances by Brooker, Wilson, Fisher, and Trower. Thank you for posting this song along with the great pics.

Why couldn't they have thrown this on Something Magic, when they were so desperate for material? Add Drunk Again and this song and maybe you can dispense with the Worm & the Tree! And maybe the band doesn't break up... (Yes I hold Worm & the Tree responsible for the breakup!)

This Track was also known as"I Realise"With string arrangement by Tony Visconti'..Also it was intended for Dusty Springfield'..But never used,It was originally taped between May-July 1967'...This was part of a session tape found at Onward Music Archives'..and not released until its' inclusion on 40th Anniversary Album Issue'.a few years ago'..But using the Original Italian Pink LP Cover'...also with more bonus tracks...Well Recommended..!!

A beautiful hidden treasure, now rediscovered. I hope someday Gray and Procol Harum will receive all the accolades and recognition that they deserve as one of the most creative and distinctly Classical Rock bands of the past fifty years.

I bought the SALVO reissue of their first album, just to have this song. It's great. I already had all their LP's on Westside and Repertoire CD's but I had to have this track. How it languished in the vaults for so long boggles the mind. Maybe it's a good thing Dusty did not record it. By the way, if you are looking for a stereo version of AWSOP it's only available on Westside's 3CD box set. A totally different take to discerning ears.

I think this was an expensive demo (with strings and woodwinds!) meant for Dusty Springfield, who it would have been perfect for. She didn't record it and it languished for decades, as the band couldn't record it.

Absolutely superb. The only reason I can think it wasn't released is because the woodwind section seems to be a little out of tune at one point.

Interesting and "Beatle-ish" strings & woodwinds arrangement. Not much echo on the vocal, which really makes Gary's voice stand out, especially with no percussion (other than piano, if one must be completely precise). Amazing. Where did you find this? Thanks for posting.
