How come you can listen to this song a million times and still get teary eyed and emotional. Memories flood in, tears flood out! Music “back in the day” was “BEST OF THE BEST”. It’s 2024, I’m not 67 and it’s a large pill to swallow. Where did our time go? Oh to be back in the day!

I am at the same age. This song was the last song that I fell in love right after hearing it. My beloved song started with Supper Bird, I was just started to learn Eng, from this you should have known that I was from non English back ground. The music ( super bird) caught me, plus I could understand most of the lyrics, I like it so much so I went to buy the translated songs book to learn more about this song. I have couples more songs in my memory, but to make it shorter I have to go straight to this song. I move to Australia in 1995 when I heard this song , the instrument version, for the first time. It was the sound of Organ that struck me, then I searched for the song and listened to the regular song with the lyrics. I learn more English from this song😂😂😂. I love it until now, never get bore listening to.

I'm 21. A lot of people are commenting about how they grew up with this song, but I think it's important to know that young people, though we may not have the nostalgia, are still discovering great music like this from generations before us. Songs like this truly are timeless.

I was born in 1955. I remember hearing this song for the first time on the school bus, believe it or not. Our driver played the AM radio over the PA system on the bus for us if we behaved. I've loved since long before I ever really knew the meaning of the lyrics, but I always had the right idea. I can't tell you how happy it makes me to know new generations are enjoying it! I was so fortunate to have a seemingly unending supply of great music growing up. I'm 67 and still listen to so many favorites on a regular basis. 😊

As we get older ( I am 73), a little piece of each of us dies with the passing of those who have shaped who we are and what we turned out to be. Gary Brooker is one of my 'shapers', and I am eternally grateful for his shaping. I saw Procol Harum at the Eastbourne Festibal in1973/4, along with Yehudi Menuhin and Victoria de los Angeles, and I will always treasure all of those memories. Thank you, my friend, for what your music has done for all of us - you have made our lives sing.

You're the same age as my "child bride". I listen to this every few weeks just to re-center myself after a tough day. One of the best songs from the best age of rock and roll. I remember very well when this first came out and have always thought it to be one of the songs in my life's soundtrack. Gary's voice aged far better than most and this concert was during the time I thought was his best. We lost him a couple of years ago and the world lost a great talent. Hope you are well and are having your best life. JP

This was our song in high school. My boyfriend and I would drive around all night playing it. One of the most brilliant songs ever made. Now here comes the sad part. After 2 years of dating, my boyfriend and I broke up. I was devastated but went off to college. After several months, I heard this very song being played as I walked out of the school. I thought ,what the h???.... There, in the parking lot, was my ex-boyfriend, playing this song for me. I ran to his car and asked him what he was doing. He told me to hop in the car so we could go talk. I was elated to see him and talk to him. We've been married for 46 years now and it's still our song.

I’m also of the ‘older’ (67 years old now) generation that grew up with this song and music in general, and so many other talented artists that are now also older and some either deceased (like GB in this case), or ‘retiring’ (like Elton John). It’s a shame that the youth today doesn’t appreciate that this is what REAL music should be! Personally I think that some of the original performers are even better now than they were when they first released the song (one being Elton John - having been to 2 of his ‘Farewell’ concerts in ‘22, I thought his performances were better).

RIP, Gary Booker. This song meant a lot to the confused young teenager I was at 16. The next year, the love of my life, a 21 year old Special Forces lieutenant, was KIA in Vietnam. Whiter Shade of Pale was a solace to me at the time, and is still. I always loved Mr. Booker's voice, and no one sang it like he did.

My dad was an African American DJ at an all hard rock station in college when I was growing up in the 60's. I was exposed to all kinds of music from Procol Harum, Jefferson Airplane, Vanilla Fudge and Janis Joplin. I am so blessed by the experience of listening to music from all genres. As a singer it has made me very versatile and happy to discover new songs. Rest in peace, Mr. Brooker and thank you Daddy ♥ (still alive and kickin) ☺

Good for your dad! (And thank you for thanking him!) My daughter was a "captive audience" in my car for her first 16 years, as I drove her from one activity to another. The driver chooses the music. I graduated high school in 1979. She only heard classic rock and roll in my car. And she soaked it in. She was about 4 or 5 years old, we were on our way, probably to dance class or school, a song came on, and I asked her who sings it. Her tiny little girl voice said, "CCR". I asked her, what does that stand for? You can't imagine how adorable that little girl's voice was when she responded, "Creedence Clearwater Revival"! She's seen in concert The Eagles, Eric Clapton, Billy Joel, Elton John, and of course, my man Paul (McCartney). A teacher once asked a question in class and she automatically said "Yellow Submarine". She was right. Her classmates looked at her like she was nuts. "How do you know that?!". "My mom, duh"!" I jokingly say I brainwashed my child, but for someone born in 1993, she has a helluva lot of rock and roll knowledge, and appreciation! Your dad was awesome, as are you!!

@@melissamassey9384 Thank you Melissa so much for your kind comments. Imagine a little brown girl in the 70's , whose favorite album at the time was Carole King's "Tapestry", singing "I Feel the Earth Move" at the top of her lungs. (laughs). I wound up being a Casey Kasem kid listing to the countdowns, especially at night with my red pocket sized transistor radio under my pillow. As a teen, I went from learning lyrics by listening to songs and writing them down to buying the latest Pop & R&B lyric magazines published back in the day. Singing in the school choir while attending the same high school my parents graduated from, which was something passed down from my mom, cultivated my love of performing in talent shows and musical theater shows. Being spiritually grounded, I wound up singing with my church choir and was blessed to be a soprano in their backing choir to the late great Bishop Rev. Timothy Wright. and go on a limited tour with him that netted us a Grammy nomination in 1998 for Best Traditional Gospel Album. (We lost to Cissy Houston, Whitney's mom ☺). Now, many years later, as a mom to a Special needs daughter, we use Music Therapy to help her to stimulate her Autism Cerebral Palsy and Sensory Integration issues. I truly believe that ALL children can benefit from hearing a variety of musical genres. It allows you to see life from many perspectives and truly be a bridge towards understanding each other's worlds. I leave you with a line from one of my daughter's favorite Disney soundtracks. "Love is an open door Life can be so much more". Be safe and be blessed. Ambrosia and Baby Bop (kid nickname ☺)

I’m so sorry to hear of your recent and tragic loss. It’s always interesting to hear what certain songs mean to different people; in many ways this song will forever bind you to a certain set of memories of you and your husband slow dancing. My twist on this song is somewhat different, but just as personal: it hit the charts a week or two before I emigrated to Canada from the UK in June 1967. I have now lived in the US since Sept 1, 1969 and every time I hear it I can still remember listening to it on a 45rpm single in my study area at boarding school with all my buddies. I’m 67 now, a long way from the 14 I was back then. I wish you well.
