Here's a quick tutorial on three different ways to fill Layers in Procreate! Make sure to watch until the end for all the tips and tricks!

Ghost Paper Hey! Your tutorials are really amazing!🙌♥️Although I cant seem to understand the colour aspect when you export the drawing. The colours I see on the iPad and other Apple devices or a print are immensely different. The colours appear dull but seem bright and really good on the iPad. Is there something I’m missing? Would appreciate any advice!😊

Just as an FYI, on the first point, if you drop the color into the overlapping area, it will fill it, just takes two drops instead of 1. On the 2nd point, before you start drawing you selection, at the bottom it gives options for freehand, rectangle, ellipse. These give you the options of drawing exact shapes. Additional tip, if you choose ellipse it allows drawing an oval, but if you rest a finger on the screen it will make it a perfect circle.

If you use Automatic selection mode with a reference layer it selects the same shape regions that would be filled by dragging the color in. This addresses the ability to draw arbitrarily just within reference layer sections.

Thanks for the tutorial... It's funny this is the 2nd tutorial I followed, trying for a step by step follow along, this time I failed the 1st try because I used line art with a colored background, I decided to remove the background color w/select tool and that worked okay But when it came to completing with the tutorial it was a fail. I started over with a clean line drawing I just made of a cube & cylinder and worked great..! Very rewarding, Procreate is a very smart tool that seems to be a bit finicky about "following exact steps to follow to get specific results" is the best way I can sum it up in a short time. as I get more experience I sure I will find many ways to get results I want such a powerful program that someday will equal Photoshop a program that I joke can have 3 different careers with, it is so powerful and complicated when getting into the fine details. you can do so much with it. * A bit of trivia, Photoshop (Or Gimp like products) was invented to make the special effects for Star Wars by Industrial Light & Magic, I know it that simple, there were many people and inventions that came before digital imaging we have today

Please could you answer a question I have. I have created an image with a series of circles ( they don't overlap.) Then I have overlaid the isometric setting. If i line around the shape but don't line the circle edge the colour drop or infill does not recognise the circle previously drawn, no matter how much I change the saturation. I dont know what setting i need to change as it was previously working but now it doesn't.

What about when working from a scanned black and white image? Is there a war to change that into nothing but a black and white image so any random gray spots will disappear? Every time I try to drag color in, it only fills partially because there are very light splotches of gray that look white.

If you scan the comments here you will see lots of people with the same issue - you either have your shape open just a tiny bit still on your outline, or your color treshold is too high (watch another video I have called 10 tips on Procreate for beginners where I talk about that). Is there a way to fill a shape that is not completely closed in his own layer but it would be If if was in the same layers of another shape? I mean, like in you first example, but with the second shape under the first. If I draw the two shapes in different layer and then I merge them, the fill happen correctly because the second shapes will be closed by the first shape. But have them in one layer is not the best for paint shadows so I’m searching a way to fill this kind of shapes without merging the two layer. Grouping them don’t work. Is same one having the same problem or know how to solve it?

Can anyone explain in plain language why the color fill in procreate results in a different color filled? Even the different color it decides to use on its own changes constantly. I just can't let it fill the exact color that I have chosen. What is this feature (bug) and I imagine "real" artists may need it, but why?

Awesome! This helps a lot! But for some reason I can’t use the color drag. Anytime I try it just goes back to the previous color. What do I do about it?
@ghostpaper5 жыл бұрын
Åquä Wølf it’s because you are holding onto the colour for too long at the top before you drag it to where you are want :) - just try to instantly drag the colour circle at the top right with your pen and that should do it! Hope this helps!

@ghostpaper5 жыл бұрын
Hi bubble there are two possibilities: 1. the shape you are trying to fill still has a very very small hole in the outer edge (or you are using a brush or 1 or 2 size thickness which also makes it harder), or 2. your treshold is set to too high when you are dropping the colour onto the area, try to hold the pencil to the canvas when dropping the colour but don't let go - you will see a bar at the top of the app with a treshold value , you can then slide the pencil and set to a number where it works for your shape - try to watch my other 10 procreate tips for beginners, I have a section in the video where I show this feature. Cheers!

Hey I really found your painting videos very helpful. But I have a question. Say I have a cartoon with things generally staying open without a definite touching of the outside lines. What is the best method to paint in such cases?
@ghostpaper5 жыл бұрын
I see - in that case it seems best to make a new layer and paint with your brush underneath the outlines as well as making the boundaries of that layer with your coloured brush as well, then using the colour drag at the end - watch some of my very first speed paint videos, I used to make them wihtout outlines, you will see what I mean about this fill layer without using the outlines. Hope this helps, cheers!
