This is a loving and lovely tribute to young mothers everywhere. The first year is a special time for a baby and for parents. I'm glad you shared this.

It's a commercial for diapers. Does anybody actually get excited watching a commercial? For diapers?? Well, I sure did! I have several friends who have estranged daughters and they always fall apart as one of these daughters' birthday comes along and the mothers become desperately depressed as they realize there will be no celebration and in fact there will be no contact from that daughter. I've suggested to them that they have a celebration with balloons and cake like they normally would, but instead of celebrating the daughter's "birthday", celebrate the day as a mother celebrating a "birth day". This is the day a mother gave birth - perhaps to her first child - that, alone, merits a celebration. This particular commercial, involving the fathers, was a beautiful, loving depiction of how parents feel when they've been blessed by having a child(ren). It is especially poignant considering the fact that it honors Japanese couples in a country where the "single child" concept often dominates, and the "childless" family is not an anomaly. The last couple to be highlighted (the mother who appeared to be a little bit older than the other three mothers) actually made reference to the amount of thought Japanese couples put into family planning, when the father's note to the mother read "Thank you for deciding to do this". They had obviously had conversations (maybe many!) about whether or not they would have a baby, and Mom had obviously taken some time and careful thought to make up her mind.
