There were also some interesting hidden samples in Kendrick's beats. The production has definitely been overlooked 😎👍🏼

I was super impressed by the mixes as well. Those engineers must’ve known the importance of the rebuttals, so they were on their game.

One thing I have noticed with Kendrick's recent production has a focus on synthetic horns and simple bouncy drums with percs and open hats with the bass being the pace maker. Also, the melodies are very thin, leaving PLENTY of room for his vocal inflections

I thought you were gonna talk about the context behind the beats, like how Dj Mustard producing Not Like Us is crazy, or how 6:16 is actually sampled from Drake’s uncle’s song, and it’s also produced by Jack Antanoff (producer for Taylor Swift) so it’s really “Taylor made “

on not like us, i wonder what it wouldve sound like with him only using that first sample and not the 2nd (how you demonstrated with the strings @4:55 ). sounds unnecessary to let that second sample stretch out longer than the first although kendrick still bodied it, we noticed. made me wonder if mustard made it in a rush. or if he did it like that on purpose.

I don’t feel like the beats he chose were anything special. I feel like people are just tired of Drake in general and wanted to see him taken down a notch. It’s not Kendrick has iconic or even a good selection of beats in his discography that goes to Drake but Kendrick could have rapped over fart noises and it would of been a hit so long as it was aimed at Drake.
