Here it is, friends! The episode of PRODIGY we've been building up to this whole season! It's the 2023 PRODIGY BOWLERS TOUR Tournament of Champions. Sixteen champions that were crowned this season compete in two divisions, the Handicap Division and the Scratch Division, for a chance to meet in The Final Showdown for the prize they've been eyeing all season long: The Coveted Trophy Pin!
Unlike in years past where the PRODIGY TOC was contested as one long stepladdere ("The Mother of All Stepladders"), this year, we put the champions who won in a Handicap Division at the KCO* into a Handicap Division, and all the Division 1 winners in a scratch Division. You'll see two stepladders play out -- one Handicap and one scratch. The winner of the Handicap Division will receive The Hunter Moffitt Award, so named because Hunter won the very first handicap event ever held on PRODIGY BOWLERS TOUR, and he since went on to become the winningest player ever on PRODIGY. Then the winner in the Scratch Division will receive The Charles Bostic Award, so named because Charlie won the most titles on PRODIGY in its first year of existence and went on to win the first-ever Coveted Trophy Pin. The two division winners then meet in The Final Showdown to claim the prize they've all been signing with each championship won all season -- The Coveted Trophy Pin.
This is a record-setting PRODIGY bowlcast, clocking in at a whopping 3-hours, 47-minutes, and 36 seconds. (The previous record was 3:14.) So expect to set aside a good bit of time to take it all in.
This is the final PRODIGY BOWLERS TOUR episode of the 2022-23 bowling season. We'll bring you updates during Junior Gold in July so you can keep up with how the PRODIGY kids are doing in Indianapolis. And then we'll be back again in September when the 2023-24 bowling season kicks off with the 2023 Kansas City Open September Points Tournament.
So enjoy our final show of the season. And we'll see you in September!

@@chrisleonardi7797 - Thanks, Chris. I wish we could do the two-camera treatment more often. But of course we're limited in the number of cameras we have to shoot PRODIGY, and usually the second camera is filming a whole 'nother division. But when we have two available, I'll always explore the options relating to putting one in front. Now a THIRD camera would be even cooler! (One off to the side.)

@DarkDestroyer619 -- About four years ago, PRODIGY took some of our regular kids on a field trip to the oldest, continuously-operated bowling center in the state of Georgia, and one of only a few we were able to find that still had WOOD lanes. We shot a special double-header episode there. It's one of my favorite episodes of the show. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4CXhXZ8l9iris0

@markbrown7449 -- Mark, apparently, you are under the mistaken impression, as are a number of others, that the decision as to how to format these tournaments we cover on PRODIGY is mine. It is not. The Kansas City Open is a tournament organization that I do not run. I don't even get a vote as to what they do. I'm not on their Board of Directors. I partnered with them when I moved to Kansas City so that I would be able to continue doing PRODIGY. In Georgia, PRODIGY was an after-league deal that I put on, ostensibly to promote our youth program at Roswell. It was fun while it lasted, but it lacked the legitimacy of covering a real-deal tournament. Since moving to KC, I found that there aren't any bowling centers here willing to give me 8-10 lanes each Saturday to stage our little "fake tournaments" for the show. So I partnered with an existing tournament group, the KCO, so that I could keep PRODIGY alive. They were looking for a way to promote their tournament and add some excitement, and I was looking for a way to keep PRODIGY going. It was a perfect marriage. Yes, we gave up some of the characteristics of what made PRODIGY what it was -- the different formats, the silliness, the patterns, etc. -- but what we got in return was a platform from which to showcase youth bowlers actually competing in a real deal scholarship tournament series. This particular video on which you left this comment -- the PRODIGY TOC -- is the one tournament each year that I put on. There is another tournament group in the KC area, the Heart of America Youth Classic (HOA) that puts on a tournament about every other month. They do use sport patterns. In fact, there's one going on right now, this weekend, and I'm going over there to observe. But you know what? The same nucleus of kids who routinely rise to the top of the leaderboard at the KCO are the ones who usually contend at the HOA. These kids can really bowl. I appoached the director of the HOA when I first moved here about televising his tournament like I do the KCO. But I discovered that their stepladder finals moves from one pair of lanes to the next after each game., which would have required that I move the camera each game to follow the same division's stepladder. That's simplly not practical, given our elaborate setup (it's not just a camera, it's a camera sitting up on a 32-inch platform, which is not easily moved). The alternative would have been show show Match 1 from one Division, then Match 2 from another Division, and Match 3 from still another Division. That was a non-starter for me. I'm not interested in covering something under those conditions, and viewers wouldn't have known what the hell they were watching. I won't put the PRODIGY brand on something like that. No way. There's a lot that goes into doing these shows. And if they're not 100% to your liking, I'm sorry. But I believe the show is much, much better here than it was in Georgia. You may have fond memories of what the show was back then, but from my perspecctive, it was a bit silly, and was not taken as seriously as I wanted it to be. I much prefer what we're doing here in KC. I miss the kids and their families in Georgia, of course. And I wish some of them would come up here and compete in the KCO in hopes of making the show here. But I think they'd find that these kids in KC are a lot better at bowling than they think they might be. Don't let the fcdt that they're bowlling on the house shot at the KCO fool you. The lanes are oiled ONCE in the morning, and they bowl on the burn the rest of the day and in the stepladder. It's harder than you think.

I would love to take Dallas to the side and give him the Lore of how many times Hunter went up against Charles Bostic (and any of the times the younger ones would stay for Prodigy in the early days and end up facing off against Charles, Logan, etc). It seems he is bowling as if he has no hope, but surely, he has hope. He just needs to take time to set up, and go at it like its anyone else in his own division.

Youi're referring to Alec's shot at a critical moment in his final match. And yes, it was a very unfortunate thing that the child's scream from down on the other side of the bowling center happened right as Alec was beginning his downswing. But to be honest, when I was there at the bowling center, I didn't notice it as much as I did while editing the video and adding the play-by-play. It could be Alec heard it and it may have bothered him, but it's also possible that he was so focused on the shot that he didn't even notice it. Next time I see him, I'll be sure to ask.

Honestly, I think Dallas felt defeated before he even started bowling the day of this TOC. He just felt out-matched by all these better players. So I was glad to see him have some success and discover that just showing up is sometimes half the battle in sports. I frankly don't know Dallas well enough to have much of a feel for his level of commitment and affection for this sport of ours. I do know that he's got some committed male adult bowlers around him, including his father, and that can certainly help. But in the past couple of years, I don't believe Dallas has bowled in more than one KCO each season, opting to bowl in the Adult/Youth Doubles event at the bowling center closest to where he lives of all the KCO venues. Hopefully, we'll see him a bit more often in the coming seasons. Clearly, he has a lot to learn. But everybody's got to start somewhere. And he can always say he's got one win under his belt. That's something a lot of the young KCO bowlers can't say. Hopefully, it's enough to keep Dallas interested and committed to keep after it and keep improving.

The one time that happened on PRODIGY, I don't believe it was the kid who pulled out. It was the parent who pulled him out. It's not for me (or for you) to second-guess parental decisions. Remember, this was back when PRODIGY originated from Georgia and most all of our events were "Unofficial, Informal and Impromptu After-League Challenge Matches." In other words, they were non-sanctioned "fake tournaments." Not like the real deal tournaments we cover since moving to KC.

I’m not questioning anyone’s parenting. Just saying if it was me, I’d be upset. And like the guy in the first match who beat Kaeden, why start if your not going to finish? But I get it these are kids who probably most don’t even drive yet 😂. Also, My goodness time really flys.. I remember back then Charles Bostic, Peyton, Christian. I can’t believe it’s been that long ago. Haven’t tuned into these shows in a while. Just a thought, it’d be cool if you could let us know (like in the bottom of the screen or something) what balls they are using. Pretty sure PJ throwing a Gem..But I love PJs game. @@dylanfry7978 -- Once again, relating to the young man who had to pull out after winning his first match in the Scratch stepladder, we would only be speculating as to what the reason was why he had to withdraw. Nobody withdraws gladly. Something unexpected came up, and obviously, it was important enough for him to leave right away. Knowing that this kid was the winningest bowler on the KCO the season prior, I'd have to believe it had to be something pretty serious to prompt him to withdraw. I know he got a phone call or a text from someone and he immediately came to me and said he had to leave. Of course the worst thoughts flashed across my mind -- a family tragedy, perhaps, or something else horrible -- that forced him to suddenly withdraw without warning. I was relieved days later to learn it was not something quite that dire. But since it was none of my damn business, I didn't probe further. If one day he wants to explain what happened, I'm sure he'll tell me. But my role was to conduct the tournament, not to stick my nose in other people's business and/or to second-guess people's decisions. And to be quite candid, I really find it off-putting when viewers do. Remember, these are kids. The better approach is to be supportive. Remember, the mission of PRODIGY BOWLERS TOUR is to Celebrate Junior Bowling and Elevate Junior Bowlers, not to question or second-guess them. You can speculate on what you might have done if put in a similar situation. But since you don't know the details of what that situation actually was and the factors that weighed heavily in the decision, you're really just spitballing without knowing any of the relevant facts.
@dylanfry7978
@dylanfry7978 6 ай бұрын
@@ProdigyBowlersTour Again, it’s not that serious. I was just simply stating how I’d feel. And I’m sure most would feel the same way regardless of the reason..As I said I know these are kids, most probably are not even driving yet. I’m sure they had their reasons, and that’s perfectly fine. I didn’t mean to imply it wasn’t. Also regarding parental decisions, I think it’s perfectly fine to question them. Or anyone else’s for that matter. Especially nowadays. . Questioning someones decisions no Matter who they are isn’t inherently a “bad” thing. Anyone can question anyone or about anything. But that’s a whole nother issue.

Hello coach Randy, I just finished watching your TOC telecast. Congratulations on another great season. Last night you said that you wanted comments about how to improve the show. Nice touch to start the show with a video from from EJ Tackett! Also, the front view camera for the last match was a good idea. How about getting Charles and Hunter to hand out to the winners of their respective trophies? Is it possible to have a guest coach or commentator to give information about the bowlers style such as their set up, stance, delivery and release? Also, how about some details about the balls that are being used? In an effort to reduce any distractions to the bowlers, can you put up some partitions? This is my first time watching a TOC tournament on the Prodigy Bowlers Tour. I’m glad to hear that you’ll be back next year. 💪🎳💪
@ProdigyBowlersTour
@ProdigyBowlersTour 11 ай бұрын
@edwardrigby883 -- Well, to be honest, last night on the livestream when I asked for comments on the video, it wasn't so much that I was fishing for suggestions on how to improve the show as much as i was just looking for people to leave comments, period -- good, bad, or otherwise. We just haven't had as many comments left on the videos as we used to, and one of the things that KZbin's algorithms picks up is comments. Videos that get few of them don't rank all that well. So I was just trying to encourage people to leave comments. But let me address your comments and suggestions: 1. Regarding E. J.'s appearance on the show: This is the fifth time we've had a PBA superstar open the show with a welcome message and words to encourage the bowlers. In 2018, Jason Belmonte was the first to grace our program with an appearance, and then a week later on our season-ending Youth/Adult show, Parker Bohn III delivered a greeting message and helped me hammer home the importance of parental involvement in their kids' bowling careers. Then in 2018, Norm Duke greeted our viewers on our TOC show, and was followed a week later by Kyle Troup, who could attest, better than some, about the importance of having a parent involved in the child's bowling. Production of the show was suspended during the pandemic or I'd have tried to keep it going. But now, at the end of our first full season after production of the show resumed here in Kansas City, I was thrilled when E. J. agreed to do it. I only ask for special occasions, and there is no more special occasion on PRODIGY than our big TOC show to cap off the year. 2. Second camera. We only have two cameras, and they're used to record two stepladders at each month's KCO. And to put a camera in front would require taking over an adjacent lane to place the camera. Just not practical throughout the year. But on both the 2018 and 2019 PRODIGY TOC shows, we put my iPhone to work in capturing the front view in the championship match, and I knew all along I wanted to do it here. It was just a matter of getting the bowling center manager to agree to let me do it. He did, and I am very appreciative. As you rightly observed, it makes a huge difference. 3. Getting Hunter and Charlie to present the awards. Well, Hunter is still a junior bowler and lives in the Atlanta area, where the show originated. And Charlie, who was also in the Atlanta area, now goes to college at Webber University and lives in Florida (although he may be spending his Summer in Georgia with his parents, although I have it on pretty good authority that he's traveling most every week to a tournament somewhere). So it's really not practical to get them to join us for the PRODIGY TOC. I thought about trying to track them down and get them to record a short blurb to run in the presentation ceremony, but honestly, after the show had already run upwards of 3 hours and 45 minutes, I felt the best thing I could do was wrap things up quickly. Getting them to be part of the ceremony is certainly not a bad idea, just not very practical. 4. Guest commentators. It's hard enough for me to pin down time for ME to record the play-by-play. It's the last thing that's done in the post-production process, and I never know when the show will be ready for me to lay down the voice tracks. Having a non-broadcaster come in and fill a broadcaster's role is always risky business. We did have Mike Anderson II, winner of the 2022 KCO Invitational come in and do commentary with me when we did the 2023 KCO Invitational, and he did a great job. But this is a kid who's changing his major to Sports Media, had done some play-by-play on his college station the previous year, and had a knack for it. The schedule for getting this show out was very tight. Essentially I was producing TWO shows in less than two weeks, a Herculean task, and I couldn't risk running into any additional trip-ups. So I opted to do this one solo, as I've done 146 of the first 149 shows. As for commentary about players' styles and coaching tips, I always try to sprinkle some of that into the show. I"m a USBC Silver Coach, and a former PBA member. After about 30-year hiatus from the game, once I returned in the early '10s, I got back in with gusto. Over a 24-month period, I won 13 tournaments -- not big ones, mind you, and some might even be better described as "sweepers," but every one of them had some really fine players who have won a bunch of tournaments themselves. So I know a thing or two about these kids' games. And dare I say, after covering the KCO for a year, they might be hard-pressed to find another coach who has more videotape of them and who has analyzed their games in greater detail. But the TOC show was a little different than some. I didn't want it to be a "Coach Randy Lesson Session." These kids are all CHAMPIONS, they EARNED their way here, and I didn't want this particular show to be too coaching-heavy. 5. Balls. I get this question with almost every episode. To keep up with what ball each player is throwing, I would need to have a complete list of every ball in their arsenal, plus I would need to know what every single one of those balls looks like so if they started throwing it, I would somehow be able to recognize it on camera. Either that or I'd have to have someone go around and ask these players what they're throwing while the competition is unfolding. Again, that's just not practical, and I don't want to be distracting the players. As a coach, I'm certainly aware of the importance of ball selection so a player can "match up" with the condition. But as a coach, I'm also more interested in how they're making adjustments, either with their feet and eyes, or with hand position, speed, axis rotation, and all the other little tricks a player has at his disposal to cope with changing lane conditions. Can't possibly detect all those things in the broadcast, and I have very little interest in turning the show into a commercial for bowling ball manufacturers unless and until one or more of them decides to sponsor the show. 6. Partitions. Unless you're volunteering to come and either construct these partitions or pay for them, putting partitions between the lanes is never going to happen. Most players would find them more of an obstruction or just more distracting than having players on either side of them, which is something they deal with every time they bowl. All good ideas. Just not terribly practical on a $0 budget production like this. I saw that you just signed up to become a PRODIGY Patron. Thank you. We'll have a few short update videos letting viewers know how the PRODIGY kids are doing, but these are not considered "full length" shows, so the "early access' thing doesn't really apply, and they won't carry closing credits like our full length shows do. Our next full-length episode of PRODIGY will come in September, after the first KCO tournament of the season is held. We'll be there to cover Division 1 and one other division (to be determined). But thank you very much for supporting the work that goes into creating the show. Search through this channel and you'll find that there are 149 episodes in all, plus a number of special features and PRODIGY SHORTS for your dining and dancing pleasure. 🙂 PS: Oh, and by the way: Since you said this was the first time you'd watched a PRODIGY TOC, if you're a member of our Facebook group, you'll be interested that I posted one of the better ones that had a truly thrilling finish. From any page on Facebook, type "Prodigy Bowlers Tour" in the search bar and click ENTER. That'll take you to a page where you can request to join the group. Be sure to answer the three screening questions so we won't think you're a spam bot.

Hello Coach Randy, congrats on another successful season of Prodigy Bowlers Tour. Always first rate, and always gives the kids their just due. Question : Where does one get a T shirt like the one you were wearing on this telecast when you were presenting the awards to the bowlers ? The one with the Prodigy Bowlers Tour screenshot on the back ? Are they available for purchase ???

At the present time, that shirt is a one-off. I had a couple of them made for me. But we used to offer T-shirts. They have the old logo. I need to update that stuff and reopen the store. Thanks for reminding me and giving me a kick in the pants to get me to do that. LOL! I’ve also got some other stuff I want to sell. As soon as it becomes available, you’ll hear about it on the show.
