Absolutely, it saves time, get exactly what you want, and you still can modify them. That's what I like working with a DAW. But I have a hybrid setup. Mostly via Dante and analog. You can route everything through that. Only downside is, you have to install everywhere LAN. But that was calculated when we start up.

You rule Joe, I've been learning a ton from these videos! Looks like you route each of the instrument effects to their respective instrument busses. Doesn't that cause a lot of duplicate FX? Would love to see a video of all routing in the whole template.

Hey Joe, another great video, I love the Big Sky, that is so smooth. That one is on my list to buy. Yeah, templates are the way to go, if you know what you're doing. I have a lot of those, all prepared for different styles to mix, I don't track. Those templates look very different. Thanks. PS fun fact, I was reviewing some free plugins, and one caught me by surprise, the Valhalla time modulator, on AG. Which gave it a sparkle, with a HP before going into the Valhalla. I used it in a mix provided by you guys, of course 3 years ago? 🤪

Great stuff. I quite like FabFilter Pro-R2, for designing high-quality modern reverb spaces. I also like Relab 480XL the most of the Lexicon plugins. Sometimes I use Valhalla Vintage Verb instead though. The LiquidSonics reverbs are great. For chorus, I like the Audiority Chorus Ensembler, and UAD Dimension D, more than the UAD Brigade. I don't think UAD Brigade is their among their best plugins. For modern / synth chorus, TAL Chorus LX, Minimal Audio Flex Chorus, Sinevibes Blend, and Eventide TriceraChorus. I love EchoBoy too, as well as SoundToys SuperPlate. I also love D16 Repeater for vintage, and FabFilter Timelss for modern delays. The UAD Space Echo is good too. And the Arturia vintage plate 140 (EMT Plate) is awesome too.

Thanks for all this, Joe! I have a question about sharing reverbs. I don't know the term. But you have like Verb Plate, Verb Spring, etc. Would you bus various instruments to Verb Plate? Like the piano a few guitars, and the like. Or do you have a Verb Plate for guitars, one for keys, one for strings, one for drums? Ive seen it done both ways, but I've also heard that routing various instruments to the same reverb can throw it off and cause buildup.
@InTheMixJoeCarrell2 ай бұрын
Everything that you see in this video would be available to guitars and or keyboards. Some more get used at all and others may get 20 different instruments sent to it. Really depends on the song and the arrangement. Definitely do not be afraid of sending lots of sources to one reverb. That’s the way it is always been done. The greatest mixes of all time were done using just a handful of outboard units that would have been available to every instrument on the record. Best wishes!!
@Fl4ppers2 ай бұрын
If I have the processing power in the laptop I wont use predelay but a side-chained compressor on the reverbs and echoes in a send. I tend to like the way it responds to transients. I use Ableton (an old v9 too) as I find I dont need much of the newer stuff, and come from a "get it right at the microphone" stage kind of a geezer.
@DerSilvano2 ай бұрын
Hey Joe, nice video. As you have very good colour coding, what is your approach to it?
@InTheMixJoeCarrell2 ай бұрын
I use light blue for Percy’s and loops, darker blue for drums and a bit different shade for basses, two different greens for guitars, yellows for keys, red for vocals, aqua for group masters, orange for the stereo buss, a different light blue for effects returns (three different shades for each of the three group buses they would return to) etc. oh and orchestra is various shades of pink and purple. No real reason other than that’s what I’ve been doing for years 😂
