Thanks Warren! For those of us with limited time, these streams and videos are always worth the time. From the open ended random discussions to the detailed walkthrough of mixing a track... it is a valuable use of time. And it really feels like a community worth investing in. As a result, this channel is always my first choice. Till next time...

Do you use distortion on every bass to get high end information to help it cut through the mix? Thanks, jake

Yes! Distortion is a great way to add extra harmonics and excitement to the Bass track!

I have a box of reused work tapes, that I would then layer fixes over areas that needed corrected, so that I could get used to singing the corrected parts, while hiking around and waiting at remote bus stops, just listening on headsets on transit. Then I would go do it out live a few times at clubs. Then I would spontaneously record it all fresh on high bias after a few hours vocal rest once it was technically and mechanically like the back of my hand. At that point I could change the feeling of it within the perimeters where although it was the same "quality control wise" night after night it would be uniquely different live. Anyway, I've not gotten back up to my old speed on that in awhile. I do appreciate not wearing tape out and rewinding and flipping repeatedly to maintenance the work tapes. Hee! I started leaning heavily on guitar playing trying to heal up from a couple of things that still leave me more breathless than I'd like to be. Swimming helps! I just wish I had a Rainshine guitar to test out there in the water. 😅🤣

I've probably recorded more on tape than digitally. That's a lot. 😳 Wow, many years. I was always looking for deals on high bias tape, and trying to find just the right distance to not distort etc.

LMC is bliss as a plug-in! Much less so as a mastering tool in my opinion, as gives a really to standardized and sanitized sound.
@Producelikeapro6 жыл бұрын
Hi Pascal, yes, it's a wonderful all-in-one plug in! I love it!
@Producelikeapro6 жыл бұрын
Haha you edited in a different comment after I responded! Have to 100% disagree! If you watch the video and listen you'll hear how insanely coloured it is, that's why I love it! If I want a very uncoloured sound, purely for mastering and didn't want the colour then there many others to choose from.
@pclairoot6 жыл бұрын
I did not as a matter of fact! And I did watch the video. I am using LMC (I own it for about a year) as a plugin exactly the way you do but not often for mastering. I am not speaking about colour, I did write standardized and sanitized, meaning LMC colour is, well, its colour and all you pass through it ends-up with the same colour no matter the preset, which is not always what I am after at mastering stage. I'd rather put colour at the recording and mixing stage. Yes indeed, there are other solutions for mastering: I am using a lot the Slate FG-X as well IKs Multimedia T-racks as a stand-alone (offers more options than LMC, which btw is built on T-racks modeling - a very smart move from IK).
@pclairoot6 жыл бұрын
And btw - I am just making a wild guess - the way LMC was designed might be that IK let 'em two @Lursen mess around with the T-Racks (shit, these plugins sound good) , get the effect chains they liked and that were mirroring what they do with their analog gear with presets they use for each genre with 4 categories (glue bright etc.) including what parameters actually playing on (when you change presets, not only the chain changes but the parameters on which you can play do) , and then designed LMC around it. That is so smart, really so smart, and does make a great plug-in (IK multimedia stuff is awesome. Just try their bass sim, Modo Bass. As we say in France: ça fait le café!).

Great job, and thanks so much for sharing your wisdom and entertaining stories. BTW, related to instant dislikes, I read a recent psychology research paper that went over the personality types that are drawn to certain types of ritualistic activities on the Internet. Of the many interesting things they seem to be finding is a type of narcissistic personality disorder where a small percentage appear to be drawn to finding ways in which they can passive aggressively insult and demean others. When combined with the relative anonymity provided by the Internet, some actually actively look to find things on the Web to disparage and demean, and will sign up for live notifications where they can quickly dislike people right at the beginning of live broadcasts. Thankfully, it appear to (hopefully) consist of just a few percent of humans. In any event, my point is that a channel of your size has to have some of them, just based solely on stats. Thankfully, you don't take it too seriously. As an amazing person I once met said, "you have to laugh laugh laugh." (related to the curveballs and screwballs that life will throw at you from time to time).
@Producelikeapro6 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew, wow! Thanks ever so much for this amazing explanation! Yes, agreed with great success comes a higher rate of disparaging remarks! It's ok, I just try to understand where people come from and help them in any way I can. Thanks for your support my friend!
