Namjoon himself said that this album is like a ''turning point'' for them. They clearly are trying new styles, new things and they execute it perfectly. They still are them and I don't get how people begin to think that they ''lost their style''. I feel sad when I read comments like that. Please, dive in a little bit more and get to know BTS. They are true artists.

+Form of Therapy - Tae is actually a baritone, but most kpop music is made for tenors, so he's forced to sing in the tenor range. As far as I can tell, he has the widest range of all the boys so he's capable of singing in the tenor range ( and falsetto ), and has pretty good control over his falsetto and just higher range in general. He does a lot of the low range harmonies in the backgrounds of their songs, along with Suga apparently. The problem with his voice is that he doesn't get to really explore or improve the control over his lower natural range. You can hear that he has a lot of breathiness down really far, and he's lacking support ( sometimes goes off key slightly, strained sound, thin/breathy sound, etc ). It's just because he's always singing in a tenor range instead of his natural baritone range. There's not much that can be done since the other 3 vocalists are definite tenors, and simply lack the range necessary to sing music made for baritones. Tae is probably tied with or slightly better than JK in terms of how "good" of a vocalist he is - the control, vocal choices in notes and colour, technique, etc. He's getting better though, so hopefully they've gotten a different vocal trainer(s) to really improve their basic skills and techniques, so that they improve as vocalists and thus musically as a group.

if you listen to some of his solo covers and stuff, he usually sings in a lower range that he's more comfortable in (look up his cover of Hug with Jhope, I love it) He's just usually forced to sing higher tenor parts for group songs because most boy kpop songs require that range.

So, to answer your question about why the highlight reels had nothing to do with this music video. BangPDnim and BTS have said that the highlight reels would have nothing to do with this comeback. Rather, it's for the whole concept of Love Yourself as a whole, and will guide the entire series into next year. I'm guessing they'll bring more of it into play with the next comeback, and within the album are little short stories/notes that I think also play into the highlight reels. As for the comeback, it far exceeded any expectations I had, which I sorta expected. It threw me for a loop as it was a very dance focused video, but I love it so much! I love that we can sit and enjoy it and have fun with it, without delving deep into theory this time, as ,I had as I love theories! Thanks for your take, it was fun to hear more about the filming processes that went into this MV!

Im actually super appreciating that BTS is stepping outside of their comfort zone, yet doesn't sacrafice any of the usual quality they bring. The video could've had a bit more of a storyline for me, but I guess those older vids of BTS spoiled me to want Greek mythology-level symbolism each time.

Well, Jimin and Jungkook can sing really high, because they're tenors. What's impressive is that Taehyung has proven he can hit a C6 (obviously not executed well, but he hit it), which is the highest note we've heard from BTS. Honestly. . . I just want the vocal line to stop reaching such high ass notes when they don't even have a proper vocal coach teaching them how to sing high with support and not damaging their vocal chords.
@yueqing666
@yueqing666 6 жыл бұрын
Xzel Sit down. Jungkook is the MAIN. VOCAL. He is very, very stable. Even if he doesn’t have the widest range, his voice is the most stable and fluid, and is very pleasant to listen to. He is the main vocal for a goddamn reason, and a good one. Jimin is the least stable amongst them, but that’s not to say that he isn’t stable, nor that he is weak is ANY way. He can reach the highest notes amongst the three- that’s why he’s in charge of all the high-pitched ad libs and harmonies in their songs. His speciality is R&B, but he can do a LOT more with his voice, which is why we always see him expanding his comfort zone with rap and low, sexy growling. V has the most distinctive voice of the three- husky, sultry, the most soulful, and can reach the deepest notes out of the three. His voice is one of my favorites amongst BTS. Not to mention Jin, who has a gorgeous, slightly nasal voice that comes across beautifully in the right settings and key. He isn’t weak either- his range is probably the smallest amongst the vocal line, but when he gets to his falsetto, it changes the entire tonal color of the song itself. It’s underrated, underused, and hardly ever noticed, but he plays a really big role. But no one is THE BEST. There is NO BEST in the vocal line. All of them have different strengths and weaknesses, and complement each other as well as anything. You’re out of your league.
@dankkookie9520
@dankkookie9520 6 жыл бұрын
Xzel - the thing is that they aren’t weak vocals? Also seems like you’re downgrading the other two to raise taehyung up, not cool, they’re all different vocally so you can’t compare who is better. Big up to Seokjin too

Most ARMYs think, and I believe BTS themselves have claimed, that their music can be categorized into (previously) three eras. And BTS have said that Love Yourself is their newest (4th) era. For an in-depth look into BTS' different eras, check out this link : aminoapps.com/page/btsarmy/681315/bts-eras-explained In regards to the convoluted, mind-boggling, yet fun theories, they all started with "I Need U," which ushered in the HYYH era. The story lines were rooted in the real world. However, for the Wings era, while continuing and expanding on the theories, it brought in a more literary and allegorical dimension to the story telling. BigHit introduced the Love Yourself era with the Highlight reels. Though the stories beckoned back to the realism of the HYYH era, but had many symbolic imageries reminiscent of the Wings era. Moreover, the kicker is that the concluding reel made one think that there are some other worldly, a metaphysical overarching backbone to the world BTS has created. That became evident in "Serendipity" and in today's release of "DNA." Anyways, yeah, sorry... wings is separate.

V is a Baritone so his voice has always been that deep but since JungJiJin are Tenors, V has had to sing higher to match them. Finally BTS has written parts that fit V's voice. I feel that BTS did everything right in the DNA MV, especially with the line distribution, aka Jin's lines and JHope's center dance parts. BTS Fighting~

what i can say is that, DNA is good but i must admit that at first i can't catch it. That is because everything is too much for me to take it. Visual A++, Subtitle to read at the same time and great song to listen at the same time. I'm so overwhelmed at first. Then i decided for 2nd watch to focus on lyrics which is good. For music, i decided to listen it without music video and just listen it through headphone and it worth it. The music is much better with just listening! I guess sometimes BTS need to take a break in producing a too visual mv. I did remember other reactors also said blood sweat n tears is really good song but the cinematic mv really overshadowed it. However, i don't mind either if they keep releasing good mv. I can just listen the song later. What can you complain if you get to watch 7 visuals in mv. Hehe.

It happened to me too actually. I must admit that at first it was too much to digest for me. I had to go back and listen to the song without watching the mv, and now I love it! It was definitely a different BTS that I'm used to but I'm glad they try new styles. I guess I was just not ready for it lol!

Form of Therapy yeahhh... its so true. I applaud for bts to challenge themselves for a new style. They are artists so of course they want to be better. However, i'm ballad person so I tend to love more slow songs such as sea and best of me. Mic drop is so bangtan style and watching it for their comeback show was super lit. You can tell that they are really great performer. I believe that many fans of bts must have a lot of high expectation for their comeback. I must admit that I did feel that it not achieve my expectation but maybe I aim it so high tho. I believe that for first listener, they must feel dna is really good song. Well, I dont deny it tho , dna is still a good song. It just bts has a lot of good songs so you expect them being better and better. I must be too greedy then. But I really like mic drop and go go live comeback show. It remind me of how great and talented they are plus how they can win our heart, ARMY with their amazing performance. I will always look forward their next music and bts said this album is only their first trilogy for "love yourself". So, I will patiently wait for it and gonna enjoy it later. Love BTS as always. 💕💕

At first, it felt very empty sounding, but the small punches of the synthesizers worked so well alongside the choreo. As a dancer, the quick, sweeping feeling of the pop-y instrumentals in the chorus worked along side the tight hitting but quickly flowing in a small amount of time. But with out looking rushed!! I LOWKEY wished for a stronger drumline but that's why my favorite part is the end! The lalala acts as a perfect substitute for a heavier instrumental thread I wanted and it works really well ahhhh it's so great to see BTS genuinely having fun and enjoying themselves. My small issue is just my own taste but without that, it's still an amazingly constructed song and my dancer heart throbs because of the awe-inspiring choreography

i think they always experiment with their mvs and songs, here's most noticeable because it's their newest creation and they always outdo themselves, so of course compared to the previous ones the production is even better. i love the song, it's trendy and catchy but still unique and i love how bold it is, the concept is 'love yourself' so i think the boldness and the sassiness really suit it.

Same, i feel that every era they experiment on new things and that's not a bad thing because they always pull it off. To me this makes them a very versatile group, with something different every era it gives you something fresh which I think is one of the reasons I cant escape from BTS. I've been a Kpop fan of many groups but I only used to stan 1 group a year (it's unintentional, it just happens) but now I'm an ARMY for almost 3 years because BTS always know how to keep things interesting

You are one of the best in you tube land when it comes to reaction videos, straight up! I love that you had to see this twice and as opposed to the gasps and oohs and ahhs only (which hey, BTS deserves absolutely), you break it down technically and how you think it works. I'm have no idea how videos are made, but you explain it in ways that I can appreciate and understand. Thanks for sharing, I am now subbed and off to watch more! All the best! :)

I have to agree with you on the very pure pop comment. It was very different from their rnb, hiphop vibe in the previous albumsthat caught my attention and eventually love. Although I tend to hesitate listening to pop, I really like DNA because a fast, upbeat, poppy song would show off their dancing skills really well! And that's why so many love them, not just for their songs, but their performance level is always a cut above the rest. In addition, I felt a 90s vibe to the song that I really love and that let's me reminisce about good ol days. Visually, they've stayed away from their usual classic blacks, whites, and greys this time. I would understand why the colors don't suit the others well. The classic colors were also what made BTS different from the other groups and suit the international market more. If you look at the others, they're all about colors ,that to some are bordering on gaudy. But this time, BTS decided on colors, and lots of it, and it does seem a bit mainstream. Nonetheless, it was still appealing. As for the shots, thanks for explaining the wide angles. I initially didn't like it, because I really liked the shots where you can still see everybody's faces and moves, especially the moves! But, might change my mind after the nth time I watch it. Lastly, I agree that JK got too much screen time, and it felt like the rest didn't get much, but I really love it that Jin is always on point with this voice and visuals, even if he didn't get much compared to JK. Also, is it just me or was there too much instrumental than lyrics? Anyway, love the discussion.

it's an artistic period from the past, during that period art was very exaggerated in colours and adornments, like it was a very complex and highlighting type of art so when you say that something's barocco it mean you say it has those characteristics, colourful, exaggerated, eye-catching

Love this reaction! It's different from other reactions in which you point out things that I personally feel the same to, such as the music video production/camera work, the colouring, the dance and their wardrobe - all in all it made the entire video feel complete. It's always a risk for bands to change genre but after listening to the album and realised they have indeed kept bits of their previous styles and cleverly making their change gradual rather than sudden. It's all very well thought-out from a creative aspect to their branding aspect. Thank you for the video! :)
