That's SHINee for you, pure greatness. And pretty much no one will argue with you on that fact. LOL :D "Sherlock" is a special song that combines 2 songs from SHINee's album "Clue" and "Note." If you listen to those two songs on their album you will see that "Sherlock" is a mashup of the two songs. This performance of "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" is from their SHINee World Concert IV in Seoul in 2015. However, the song and MV came out in 2012. It's no surprise that you see MJ influences in "Sherlock" because this choreography was created by Tony Testa a very well-known "Hollywood"-famous American choreographer who has also worked with some of the most famous artists, productions and dancers in the world, including Michael Jackson. "Sherlock" was the first time SM Entertainment (or pretty much anyone in the Kpop industry) had ever used a famous choreographer, and at the time, it was the most expensive Kpop MV anf production ever. It is known as one of the most expensive dances because well-known, high-demand choreographers charge a lot to work with them. Just like top Hollywood actors get paid the big money to star in movies, TV shows, commercials, etc.because producers know just their name alone will guarantee a lot of viewers and a lot of money made, that's also how it works with famous choreographers. Once again, SHINee were trendsetters and because of SHINee's skill level, SM became the first to see the value in using a well-known choreographer to help create their dances and to strive for a level of choreography and video production that surpassed anything that had ever been done before. Today it's common place for Kpop companies to have really famous in-house choreographers, and to seek out people in the industry who are really making a name for themselves to choreograph for them, but SHINee was one of the first. SHINee are known for setting trends, never following them.When it comes to their music and choreography they are expected to come up with something that has never been done before, not just in the Kpop industry, but something unique and trendsetting that has never been seen or heard before in the world music scene. The industry looks to SHINee to dictate what the next style and sound will be in music and dance. SHINee also are known for never being afraid to experiment with their style and sound in a song and for the fact that no two songs of their's will ever be the same even on the same album. SHINee are always setting trends, never following them. Nothing you hear from them will ever sound the same. Everything SHINee does is unique and groundbreaking and yet it always sounds and feels like SHINee. :D May 25, 2020 will be SHINee's 12th anniversary. So SHINee are part of the second generation of Kpop and yet they are younger then most everyone in their generation and are the same age or even younger than most other groups such as EXO and BTS, etc.which are part of Kpop's third generation. SHINee debuted young and have the experience of seasoned veterans. It just goes to show you why they are legends in the industry. SHINee debuted in 2008 when Onew (the leader and lead vocalist) was 18, Jonghyun (the main vocalist and songwriter) had just turned 18, Minho (the main rapper and sub-vocalist) and Key (lead vocalist and sub-rapper) were 16 and Taemin (Main dancer and lead vocalist) was 14, so now after 11 years they are all in their late to mid-20s. (Onew just turned 30 in December) SHINee are some of the most well respected artists in the industry. They are considered Idols' Idols. SHINee are known for their live vocals and amazing dancing. They are known as CD-quality singers because they sound just as good live, if not better, than they do recorded. SHINee always sings live. The ONLY thing they are not good at is lip syncing so they avoid it at all costs, so when you hear SHINee singing 95% of the time it will be live. They have trained their entire career to be able to sing live and always sound flawless while performing extremely complex choreography. To really see where SHINee shines the brightest you have to check out more live performances because their stages are like none other. Their concerts last 3 to 4 hours straight and they perform nonstop and never sound out of tune or out of breath. They are also one of the best dancers in Kpop and they have some of the best harmonies you will ever hear. If you know EXO, then you know how good of vocalists they are, well the members of SHINee actually were mentors to a lot of the EXO members and they helped coach them in their singing. The EXO members and SHINee members are all around the same age and they were in the same trainee classes together, and yet SHINee debuted 4 years before EXO. So, that just goes to show you a little bit of what makes SHINee so amazing and why they are considered legends.

He didn't insult taemin he just didn't like his vocal tone in those songs, it wasn't to his taste, he seems to like more variations vocaly (which we know taemin can do but it wasn't so much so in those specific songs, it wasn't necessary and wouldn't fit the mood anyway) and that's OK because music taste is subjective. I adore want and move but it's not for everyone and that's ok.

Even with Jonghyun no more, they still did not disband so they will probably reunite after all of them finish their military service. They are legends in the world of Kpop. Jonghyun was and will always be one of the best vocalists in the idustry. I am sorry for what happened to him. I only became a kpop fan last yearand i knew some of their songs and i relly lived and still love them. May Jinghyun Rest In Peace. He and the others were and still are one of the best groups ever. You are right it does have a late 80's/early 90's sound but MJ was one of many who incorporated the New Jack Swing sound of that time period. This song in particular does have more in common to Mj's Jam or Remember The Time.

When this song was released, this was actually the most expensive choreography in K-pop! And it was gifted to SHINee by one of Michael Jackson's choreographers, so those homages are deliberate. The styling of the suits they're wearing was also meant to emulate Michael Jackson as well, emulating him is a consistent theme through a lot of their music and performances in general!
