*Beautiful* car and once again the level of knowledge that man has stored in his head is insane!
@wnbe-low-me74272 жыл бұрын
Level of knowledge? Yes, I’ll sort of agree, but how does he not know anything and or have any facts about the car’s performance? How many times did he say “it’s a racing car” or “race car” and know who did the upholstery on the seats but not the horsepower???
@airsofter22472 жыл бұрын
@@wnbe-low-me7427 I thought that was a tad weird too and the only thing I can think of is, these cars are so rare (only 16 of them) and so valuable ($30/40m) that no owner would allow theirs to be tested. To much risk sticking a 70 year old, extremly expensive, original engine on a dyno. I know I wouldn't if I was lucky enough to own one! No idea if this is right, its just a theory but it makes sense atleast

I must say, I am a massive Mcqueen fan so the picture of him on his Triumph during the Great escape, which is over my fire place tells me. But even owning an E-type series one, pales to the beauty of the XK. Jealous is not the word. Stunning.

I'm certain that I've seen a photo of Steve McQueen, perhaps in the book 'McQueen's Machines' where he is with this car in the original spec. Another great photo is of him tinkering with the motor with the bonnet raised whilst in his wardrobe from 'Wanted: Dead or Alive' the "mares leg" strapped down on his side. He was the "King of Cool". 😎

@Producermichale You can have this car kind of. There is a company in the UK that make classic jaguar replicas the body is full sheet metal, made in 100% the same way every rivet placement is the same. Then you get a cheaper car like a E-type and you have all the running gear ect ect. A friend of mine did a D-type and it's absolutely amazing. I believe the body's are around the price of a top spec German saloon, all in if you factor in labour to build one you are looking at £250k+ but you get a serious piece of kit that really is a insult to call it a replica more a "honorary example" that you can afford to buy, insure and actually thrash around in. Get yourself one, go see Jay Leno ask him and his guys for advice and get something in the making Retropower could make you a very special period jaguar, they built a car for Gordon Murray so if he picked them to build his own personal car then they must know something. Anyways I look forward to seeing a classic jag on the channel and hopefully I can watch it being built on KZbin via RetroPower's channel :-)

Sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!! (BABVVEN & TEBBVEN & BEFVO laws)!!!!

you are totally correct, it was displayed on a carpeted plinth that I actually built. It was displayed by Lynx Cars , formally Lynx Engineering in '87 , who fully restored this very car in '85/'86 and was the first car i was lucky enough work on . So yes, Jay Lenos programme on this car was pretty incorrect. fact.

In this clip from one of his films, kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKCaiYVtqJ2NbdE he makes his chase through San Francisco (which looks very much like today expect for the vintage cars) look effortless when McQueen didn't use a stunt driver but drove the scene himself.
