I don't think the album was bad I think it was good and it was different. People wanna Forrest hills drive 2 or something. It's the same as when Kendrick came out with to pimp a butterfly and a lot of people didn't like it cuz it sounded way different than GKMC but then again everybody has there own opinion and that's the beauty of music.

But it's sad to see those good producers going in each other like that, that's some bad publicity for the album

This is what happens when producers don't clear samples. They can't legally claim the beat as their own unless they clear the sample AND copyright the beat. IMO J. Cole and Tiller both killed that song in their own unique ways, so who cares.

It is largely the same so it is more of a copy than a mere sample. Also with samples, you need clearance from the original producer/whoever owns the rights to the original, unless it isn't being used for commercial gain. If it was a mere sample, it would likely have been used without consent by whoever took the beat from the original owner.

Drum cadences sound really similar these days, so I wouldn't say anyone was copying anyone in particular with drums. As for the melody, it's a fucking sample lmao. Everyone making the beat is taking a song idea from someone else, consented or not

For everyone who is hating on coles album IT ISNT SUPPOSED TO SOUND LIKE FOREST HIS DRIVE. If you watched the documentary cole said since he is so high in his career and so popular he was gonna drop his most real shit yet while people still listen to him just in case he drops off. The albums story is crazy if you actually listen to it.

The funny thing is the first time I heard a sample from swing my way. First time I heard it was either in 2011 or 2012 on a song by the group called the specktators called "EL Girls". I did even more research and found a song similar to tiller/Coles version. Tbh I think the beef is stupid though but I can understand feeling like someone stole your ideas or work :\
