Babymetal is one of the hottest acts in metal today. Their origination story is somewhat different than you think. Kei Kobayashi, Kobametal, was a music producer working with teenagers. He ran across Su-metal while she was in another pop group at the age of 10, and thought her voice was limited by the pop music. So he dreamed up the concept of Babymetal. A year or two later he found himself working with Su-metal, and as an experiment cut this song, Doki Doki Morning, not intending to go anywhere. Within two months of releasing this video, Metal Injection had it as one of the top 10 metal videos of 2011, and it went viral. And the rest as they say is history. Babymetal is the most successful international act out of Japan ever. As David Grohl says, everyone knows Babymetal.

The genius behind Babymetal is Kobayashi Kei. He is a metalhead working as a producer for Amuse Talent Agency and thought metal was getting stale with an aging audience so he wanted to inject youth back into it. So Babymetal was formed as a project for an idol youth training group called Sakura Gakuin. The name doesn't come from them being young, but Koba wanted to create a new genre of metal by combining Japanese pop with metal, which is called kawaii metal. Also it is a pun because "heavy" and "baby" are spelled and pronounced similarly in Japanese. The talent agency didn't have much prospects for it, so Babymetal spent time during its beginning doing small venues with Koba paying everything out of pocket. Then they took off through online word of mouth and Koba's vision came to fruition and they started doing worldwide tours, making their debut out of Asia at Sonisphere in UK in 2014, where they were moved to the large stage after the buzz online. This led into them touring and headlining shows in the West and even performing on the Colbert Show. They've also opened for Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Korn, and Stone Sour. They've done collaborations with Dragon Force, Polyphia, Sabaton, and Bring Me The Horizon. This year they will be touring in Europe where they will open for Sabaton, and then will continue on with their world tour. They are on their fourth studio album which just recently released.

Babymetal has been around for almost 13 years by now, so they are certainly grown ups now :) I wonder if your head would explode listening to “Iine”, another song from their first album. Doki Doki Morning was BabyMetal’s first song. They were 11yo and 12yo here. A school project. React to other more recent BabyMetal music, you will be impressed. I am a fan of artists that you’re fans of…. Morissette Amon, Regine Velasquez, Katrina Velarde, etc. BabyMetal is as addictive as any of them. Lead singer, Su-Metal, doesn’t have the power of Morissette but her presence is even more prominent. BabyMetal’s stagecraft is second to none. They’ve created their own Metal genre. International award winning. Most successful Japanese Metal band, internationally. Backing band is a collection of some of the best session instrumentalists in Japan. Performing in Wimbledon and Tokyo Dome to thousands. Metal legends are fans of them. Opening for Metal titans like Metallica.

Just so you know, this is OLD Babymetal. When they were kids. They started when they were 12 and 11. Old or early Babymetal (first album) was very cutesy and tongue-in-cheek with subjects on girly school age subjects. Like this song, their very first release as Babymetal was a song about waking up late for school. The second album Metal Resistance tended to stray away from this a bit but still had elements of cute in it. One member left in 2018 for health reasons and they became a duo, and then they came out with a third album Metal GALAXY that was much more mature and experimental. They experimented with music from around the world and with collaborations with other artists like Sabaton, Polyphia, Arch Enemy, among others. In all their music, they have touched on all genres. Everything from Latin, Indian, and pirate shanties, to highly technical masterpieces like the prog heavy Tales of the Destinies, and Power Metal classic Road of Resistance and Amore. Touching on rap with Iine, Papaya, and BxMxC. Their latest album has gotten rid of the kawaii (cute elements)altogether and has become this progressive heavy mixture of club pop and industrial prog metal that sounds NOTHING like what they sounded like in the beginning. Although their lyrics started off as cutesy and silly young girl topics, they have matured into uplifting and encouraging music. Babymetal is fun, uplifting, positive message music. If you continue this journey into the Babymetal foxhole, you will be amazed, intrigued, delighted, and shocked. And hopefully addicted. Did they come up with this? No. This was the brainchild of Key Kobayashi,a producer for the Amuse talent agency. Most of the music and lyrics are his and a team of ghost writers with cryptic "metal" names. The girls didn't even know what metal was when they were recruited for this project. They were originally in a J-Pop idol group called Sakura Gakuin, where BABYMETAL originated from as a sub group. They had no idea what metal was. And no, they are no longer this cutesy. They don't scream or growl. Ever. The point being that it's J-Pop vocals over heavy music. But they do get heavier and they do get much MUCH more mature. I've been to 20 of their concerts. From small intimate 500 cap venues to 50,000 x2 (2 back to back concerts) at Tokyo Dome. Their arena shows are second to none. Please don't take this one video and dismiss them. No two songs sound the same or are even the same genre for that matter. They are amazing live. This was their first single, music video, etc. Like a lot of heavy metal songs, the lyrics talk about subjects like which cute hairstyle and lip gloss they should decide on for school. : ) The 'Doki Doki ☆ Morning' DVD single was released October 2011. Lead singer Suzuka (Su-metal, or just "Su") was thirteen, Yui Mizuno (Yuimetal) and Moa Kikuchi (Moametal) were twelve. They recorded it a year before that. At this point BABYMETAL were still the "Heavy Music Club" subunit of the school-themed Idol group Sakura Gakuin. Their original budget was so small that Su's coat was borrowed from one of the Sakura Gakuin teachers. Moa's shirt was borrowed from Yui, and Yui's from fellow Sakura Gakuin member Raura. The girls taught the skeleton dudes the dance moves themselves. Pretty much everything that followed was because this video unexpectedly blew up once it was posted online.

They were crying when they graduated from Sakura Gakuin, not knowing they'll see each other again in Babymetal. Their concept just took off.

BABYMETAL 101 Babymetal is a Japanese group founded in 2010 and produced by Kei “Koba” Kobayashi from the Amuse Inc. talent agency. Babymetal name comes from the birth of a new style of metal fusing j-pop with metal creating what they call Kawaii Metal (Cute-Metal). The group currently consists of Suzuka Nakamoto aka “Su-Metal” (25 years old) sometimes referred to as Vocal and Dance. Moa Kikuchi aka "Moametal", pronounced as Moa-Metal (23 years old) as part of Scream and Dance. Momoko Okazaki aka Momometal (20 years old) as part of Scream and Dance . They are supported by a rotating selection of talented male backing musicians known as the Kami Band (Kami is usually poorly translated as gods, but in truth it more closely means awe inspiring spirit, entity, or object) It is why they are dressed in white to look like ghosts or spirits, though Kami being used as God(s) is so common in translation the white outfits get lost. Past Formations. Heavy Music Club Era (2010-2012) From 2010 to 2012 Babymetal consist of a three-member formation, Suzuka Nakamoto (Age 12), Moa Kikuchi (Age 10), and Yui Mizuno aka "Yuimetal" pronounced Yui-Metal. (Age 10). First starting out as the Heavy Music Club as a subunit within the Developmental Idol Group created by Amuse in 2010 known as Sakura Gakuin. Sakura Gakuin is a group that introduces girls between the ages of 10-15 to music, dance, modeling, and acting through Japanese Pop idol music and culture. Given a school theme, all three would be a part of Sakura Gakuin until their graduation from it in the same school year they would graduate from Japanese middle school or 15 years old. Suzuka graduated in March 2013, and Moa and Yui in March of 2015. Sakura Gakuin is a fantastic group with great kawaii jpop songs in their own right. During this time there was no lore, and the girl’s costumes were more punkish in nature which they helped create. They also didn’t perform with live music, using a backing track or the “Skeleton band” people pretending to play music behind them. Music Video of this Era Doki Doki Morning Iine (Pronounced EE-NAH spelled i i n e) Headbangya Babymetal/ Metal Resistance Era (2012-2017) Starting in 2012 with the Legend I concert, Babymetal began its slow divorce from Sakura Gakuin, and was the first introduction of the Kami Band as well as the “Lore” that is still heavily involved in Babymetal but makes far less sense than it did during this time. The Lore is complex and involves a battle against other evil idol corporations, gaining powers, some time travel, running a resistance group, all at the direction of a mythical deity known as the fox god, against an all power enemy known as Akiba. The first Legend show I was the Kami Bands introduction to the end, but it also had the Skeleton Band which is seen in the wildly popular Gimmie Chocolate Music Video. This was followed by Legend D, and then Legend Z, in which it was learned that Babymetal would continue as its own entity after Suzuka’s graduation from Sakura Gakuin in March of 2013. Slowly over 2013 the Skeleton Band would be phased out of all live shows, as Babymetal came into their own. Babymetal as it is most commonly known as with Su-Metal, Moametal, Yuimetal, the Kami Band, and a somewhat understandable lore is what consisted for the majority of it’s existence. Also established beyond the 3 member formation, they had 2 other set ups, one was what fans called Su-Solos, and it would just be Su on stage with the Kami band, performing a solo, and the other is known as Black Babymetal by the band themselves, which consisted of just Moa and Yui. Music Videos of this Era Gimmie Chocolate Megitsune Rondo of Nightmare - With mischief of the Gods Intro (Su Solo and a great expedition of the Kami Band) Road of Resistance Live in Japan (Co-written by Dragonforce) Iijime, Dame, Zettai Live at Sonisphere (Name means No More Bullying Forever) Karate The Dark Times, The Chosen 7 Era (2018) In December 2017, Yui would miss the Legend-S concert for health reasons, these health problems would prosiest into 2018 and greatly affect the 2018 touring season bring the “Chosen 7” formation, consisting of Suzuka Nakamoto, Moa Kikuchi, and 2 backing dancers Minako Maruyama, and Minami Tsukui. Changes they would not tell fans and all throughout 2018 communicate extraordinarily little causing lots of pain for all involved fan and performer. This era is noted by their strange armor like costumes, sometimes referred to as Elf Armor. To make the poor communication, and Yui’s absence wasn’t bad enough, one of the more regular Kami band members, Mikio Fujioka passed away after falling off a balcony in late December 2017 while star gazing. A beloved and incredibly talented musician lost leaving behind his wife and only child. In September 2018 Yui would formally resign from Babymetal, stating her unspecified health and wishing to move on. Babymetal themselves announced that the group will move on focusing on Suzuka and Moa. (Something many idiots within the fandom refuse or are too stupid to understand) In October Babymetal had a concert called Dark Night Carnival which added dancers, Shoko Akiyama, Saya Hirai, and Kotono, placing a total of seven girls on stage. This was also done without warning to fans and was an absolute mess. Babymetal would finish off the 2018 tour season returning to the 3-member formation with just Saya Hirai joining them in southeast Asia and Australia. Ending one of the most troubling times in Babymetal’s history. Music Videos of this Era (These MVs do not feature the members in them at all) Distortion Starlight (Don’t let overzealous fans fool you, this is OFFICIALLY not a tribute to anyone. A lot of fan speculation, end of story if they claim it is they are 100% lying to you.) Metal Galaxy Era (2019- Feb 2020) The current set up was first introduced in 2019 during the Babymetal Arises concert in Yokohama, before the start, the “Avenger” support dancer concept was explained in the lore, and the concept thanks to communication and a maintaining of the 3-member formation brought Babymetal out of dark times brought about during 2018. Babymetal seemed to have returned to its roots with the Avengers, as 2 of the three (Kano and Momoko) come from Sakura Gakuin. The third Riho, went to the same performing arts school as Suzuka during the same time, Actors School Hiroshima aka ASH. Music Videos of this Era Pa Pa Ya Elevator Girl Shanti Shanti Da Da Dance (Avenger confusion) Which Avenger one sees can be confusing for those new to Babymetal. For the Music Videos, Pa Pa Ya, Elevator Girl, and Shanti Shanti Shanti, it is Kano Fujihira, who was just 14 years old at the time. Da Da Dance is a compilation of Momoko and Riho and a splicing of 2 different shows. In most fan cam videos of the American and European tour it would be either Riho or Momoko, as they toured with Babymetal in 2019. Kano had responsibilities with Sakura Gakuin as its president, a position Suzuka and Moa both held in Sakura Gakuin, and she’s never flown on a plane before. Some fans for 2019 did throw a stupid temper tantrum over the use of new Kami Band members who are from the west now known as the West Coast Kami Band, but like how the girls won over many, so did they and the payoff with the Legend Metal Galaxy concert in 2020 was well worth it.

COVID Era (Mar 2020 to April 2021) COIVD-19 has messed up a lot of things for everyone, Babymetal had to cancel their Asian tour, as well their big 10th Anniversary on October 10, 2020. Forced to keep it rather tame something very unlike Babymetal as even in their failures like the entire 2018 tour they do it septically. The question for many fans is what of the Avengers, since COVID, Avenger Riho Sayashi has signed with a new agency and has move on to other projects, including starting a fan club, which appears to rule her out of ever being an Avenger again. Kano Fujihara has graduated from Sakura Gakuin on August 30, 2020, a near 4-month delay. However, she and fellow Sakura Gakuin graduates Soyoka Yoshida, Tsugumi Aritomo, and Momoe Mori in the formation of @onefive. Which leaves Momoko Okazaki as last standing Avenger with no new commitments. However, Kano was technically in Sakura Gakuin, @onefive, and Babymetal all at the same time for almost a year so it is possible she will still be an Avenger. All shows since COVID pandemic they have done in 2020 and in 2021 have had Momoko as the Avenger. Music Videos of this Era BxMxC (First music video that isn’t footage from a show and featuring Su and Moa since Karate in 2015) Post 10-year Anniversary/ Covid Era Part 2 (May 2021-September 2022) The band is stepping back from live shows due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and focusing on the sale of Merch. Don't let stupid fans fool you the band is not on hiatus or ending. They are idiots and deserves to be made fun of as they’ve been working on new material. Momoko had a very very short stint in a Korean Idol Competition Show called Planet 99. She performed perfectly, better than most of the other girls in the show. She even got the most votes in a small side competition destroying all other 98 girls in the show in votes. This won her some hair dye (She was blonde for a bit). Ultimately be it dumb BM fans thinking the side competition was the actual competition, how the judging was heavily skewed to Korean voters, the fact that her fate was tied to 2 other girls one Korean and one Chinese, and or possibly ridged voting something the company producing the show has done in the past, Momoko was eliminated in the very first round. The Other One (October 2022-Current) They have released 5 songs on KZbin, They have performed a show in January 2023 performed these new songs leading up to the released of their Album in March with 10 new songs. During January and February shows Su and Moa were supported by Momoko. On April First (Fox Day) Their new show played many new and old songs as well as officially made Momoko Okazaki aka Momometal the official 3rd member. Bringing Babymetal back to a 3-member unit once again. This all kicks off their world tour in touring with Sabaton in Europe then Asia and Australia, and unnamed dates for tours in US and More. Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊This was their very first song recorded in October 2010 when lead singer Su-metal was 12, Yuimetal and Moametal were both 11. This video was recorded on a shoe string budget nearly a year later. The girls were very proud of themselves - they taught the Babybones (the guys in skeleton suits) the choreo so they could dance along in the video. Doki doki is like the sound of a fast or excited heartbeat. The song is about a girl waking up late and rushing to get ready for an exciting day at school with her friends. Amuse Talent Agency formed an Idol group (Sakura Gakuin - Cherry Blossom Academy) for 10-12 of the most talented girls aged between 10 and 15 on their books with a view to using it to coach and train them in all aspects of entertainment (singing, dancing, acting, modelling, writing, stage management etc) with a longer term view of the girls finding what they liked best or were best at to take their choice of where they might take their careers when they were a little older. Sakura Gakuin had a school theme, so as well as the whole group singing songs and dancing, within the group they devised themed sub-units like after school clubs (cooking, tennis, science, reporting, baton twirling etc) and two or three of the girls would be in each. They would have their own themed songs and dances that they would perform at the SG shows for parents and supporters and at Idol festivals where other idol groups would also perform. BABYMETAL was formed as the Heavy Music Club not by a committee - by one of the producers (Kei Koabayashi) a lifelong metalhead who had seen Suzuka Nakamoto with her previous JPop trio and was so impressed with her vocal talents and stage presence that when he got the chance to work with her in SG he proposed this sub-unit with her as lead vocalist. Amuse thought Kobayashi was mad, metal was not doing well in Japan at that time and they could see nobody having any interest and no future for this sub-unit. However the girls were willing to try it and there was no financial risk to Amuse (they provided no extra budget for this sub-unit), so they allowed Kobayashi his pet project. Against all the odds and everybody's expectations BABYMETAL started to attract attention and an audience nobody knew would exist, so they put on a couple of their own shows in small venues, a shopping mall, the food court stage at a festival to see if this project just might have legs. They had gained enough popularity as BABYMETAL that in 2013 when it was time for Su to graduate and leave SG (after her 15th birthday) it was decided (and most importantly the girls and their parents agreed) that BABYMETAL should separate from SG to be her (and the two younger girls') vehicle to take their next steps as professional singers and dancers. Over 12 years on they are one of the best live bands on the planet and the most successful Japanese band there has ever been internationally (not domestically of course - Japan has a huge music industry of its own). They are like no other band you will have seen - and they always put on a show. The big arena shows in Japan are spectacular, but even at festivals with a bare stage or in the smaller venues (1500 to 8 or 9000 capacity) they play as they tour the world they still put on a great show and never give less than 100% for every song. They appreciate people have often paid a lot of money and travelled a long way to see them and they are very serious about giving value for money. They have about 60 songs now, each one different to the last. They have songs in virtually every metal genre but they will also mix or blend many other musical styles and genres in with the metal. Some songs are good hard metal others lean towards their pop roots and they do everything in between. To give you a better idea than this, their very first song, (and one of you saw 'Gimme Chocolate' a long time ago - that was the song that went viral for the shock factor, similar to 'Doki Doki Morning') how about their first major event outside of Japan - on the main stage at a metal festival in the UK, 25 minutes and just 5 songs to try to win over 50-60,000 UK metalheads who were as surprised as you when they came up through the floor in this video when they they walked on stage. The song is 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' live at Sonisphere 2014. IDZ means Bullying, No More, For Ever - you do not need subtitles, watch the choreo, it helps with the translation or the general meaning. As Su-metal said after watching Metallica for the first time and coming to understand what Metal is all about "Don't think. Feel."

This is honestly the perfect reaction to early BM. Their early stuff especially was an absolutely wild combination of sugary sweet jpop hooks contrasted with crushing metal riffs. Many of their songs were along the same lines as this one - cutesy to the point of feeling like a(n affectionate) parody of the standard metal tropes, while others were earnest, emotional ballads or just straight-up bangers. If you don't like metal though, I guess you won't be into them very much. Some of their more recent stuff is on the lighter side, like Monochrome or Light & Darkness, though imo they don't have the same element of _fun._ Regardless, would be cool to see you continue with them. If you want to see more of their older stuff, I would suggest continuing with their song Ijime, Dame, Zettai live at Sonisphere 2014. They're always at their best live.

This is BABYMETAL's first song, currently it's been 13 years since debut so it's clearly an old song, nowadays the girls are between 23-25 years old (Momoko, the new member is 20 years old). At that time the girls were 11 and 12 years old, they were very small and barely knew anything about metal. BABYMETAL was born as a sub-group (school club) of Sakura Gakuin, a school-themed idol group where there were clubs and one of those was the Heavy Music Club. BABYMETAL gained so much popularity that after the graduation of SU (the main vocalist) the group became an official band and itself is the only SG group that basically broke away from the school group. A few weeks ago they released their new album called THE OTHER ONE so I hope you guys react to more BABYMETAL songs and let yourself be surprised by how amazing these girls are (I recommend watching the live performances because they are superior to the studio versions) anyway thanks for the reaction.

BABYMETAL have performed at Northan Invasion in Somerset on May 14, 2016. You are receiving tons of information from many fans from various countries. BM has been internationally reputable since 2014. Next time please react to the latest songs released this year instead of this first (2010) song. Then. you will definitely say "Oh! KOBA-METAL) from the talent agency Amuse Inc. who (forcely) got moved from the (by then) deficient rock/metal department (metal music never was big in Japan but in the end 2000s it really looked dire) to the kids department. Some people get turned off immediately with DokiDoki Morning being the introduction to BM. I'm glad you liked it. It's a cute song but hardly shows Babymetal's true talents. SuMetal, MoaMetal and YuiMetal were literally children (between 10 and 12 years old) when they started. BABYMETAL started back in 2010 and since then have performed with, toured with, or opened for Metallica, Korn, Sabaton, Bring Me The Horizon, Dragonforce, Guns N' Roses, Lady Gaga, Rob Halford of Judas Priest (there's a great youtube video of their performance with Rob at a metal award show), and Red Hot Chili Peppers (there is a youtube video of them performing Gimme Chocolate with RHCP, as well as with Korn, and DragonForce), to name a few of many. They have performed at large metal events/concerts in front of 65,000+ skeptical metalheads in Europe (Glastonbury, Download, Sonisphere, etc), US, and Asia. They are the first Japanese band to perform at Wembley arena in the UK. Also, 20+ awards have been given to them. They have 60+ songs and each one is different from the other, so I hope you give the other songs a try.
