What appeals to me, if the song has a beautiful melody, is a singer's vocal tone and phrasing, her artistic use or mix of her full and head voice or falsetto and knowing the extent and limits of her vocal range.

I got into watching you tube videos because of Charice way back 2006, I watched her perform live 4x , Thank you for featuring her, she is a phenomenal singer, she competed among one of the sisters of 4th impact, became the mentor of KZ tandingan. We don't have to compare between Charice & Morsette, they are all good singers. Charice has given honor to our country Philippines. There are many singers ahead of Charice but it was Charice who inspired other younger Filipino singers to give honor to the Philippines. It was a divine timing to show the World that Filipinos are talented. Not only Charice, Morsette, there are many more. I saw this LIVE in Las Vegas at the David Foster and Friends concert! It was amazing. Charice was first brought to the US to appear on Ellen, then later on Oprah, and then performed with Celine at Madison Square Garden, then with David Foster.

Her story is one that tears me up, because of what she, Charice, must have been dealing with her whole life. I will forever be grateful that we have a record of some of her best stuff. About the clarity where you did the "jjjjjssshhhhhhd…"-David Foster said "Charice is like a laser beam≥" Of course at the time, Charice (Jake) was more know for belting and much of being on point was missed. It is just in the more recent "reaction video" explosion years that Charice's vocal clarity, depth, emotion, range and dynamics are being appreciated. It's never too late, it's said, for listeners to learn and have the same appreciation as from those who know music like you guys. As for another suggestion, and speaking of how the body explodes with music, I suggest a throwback vidoe and look up Charice in Bangkok in her encore performance of "Halo" esp. since you have both reacted to 2 videos with live band and an an orchestra-Bangkok was singing to a backtrack. (Still worth the watch, though.) As this event is a while back, it might not be easy to look for (zero in on jessica86s or pingchp fancam uploads). Cheers and thanks for this *interrupted* share.

Finally did this one. 🎉 I think Charice is just Charice. She's on a different level by herself. She's a pro even before she and all of us realized it...if you see her earlier performances like those from Star King (in Korea) or even in her later ones after she got featured in Oprah and Ellen, sang with Celine Dion and did some shows with David Foster, she has this humility and innocence and smiles like a child just playing. Like the stage was her playground and she owned it every time she sang. (TBH, I don't think Charice ever had a bad throat day! Yeah, she's that good.) I think there are some videos of her around before she was famous and was part of some singing contests. This one obviously had better audio quality but my best Charice recommendations are: 1. One Moment in Time from Star King in Korea - you'd be amazed and wonder where all that vocal power comes from 2. Charice in Netherlands - how she got the crowd's attention after she opened her mouth and sang. 3. Note to God (think this was on the Oprah show) - she's already famous here but the range and emotions will blow you away. People (well at least here in the Philippines) have often compared Charice and Morisette. I think there's no comparison, they're both immensely talented (and can sing (and rap and dance and act) just about anything. In my opinion however, Charice sounds more like Whitney Houston - big, full, thick, deep, vocals and Mori with her control (she can literally whisper and cry as she sings), her squeaks and whistles sound more like Mariah Carey. This comparison doesn't mean to diminish any of these singers' vocal prowess. Its just that growing up listening to both Mariah and Whitney, hearing Charice and Mori give me those vibes. 😉
