Martin grew up in Hawaii so he learned to speak Tagalaog when he was already in showbusiness. So imagine yourselves, Josh & Lucas, when you learn Tagalog, you’ll probably sound like Martin😊. I have watched Martin & Pops (ex-wife) concerts when they were young. Two months ago, I watched Martin with Morissette here in LA. His voice is still powerful. I think Martin & Gary, together with Pops Fernandez and Dayanarra Torres were the original hosts of ASAP. Nowadays, all the artists in ASAP do both hosting and performing.

Martin Nievera and Gary Valenciano are good friends. They debuted the same year, 1982. They are both singers and actors. They have the same reputation in the Philippines as a performer/artist/producer/songwriter. They are both icons in the OPM (Original Pinoy Music) in the country.

He comes from a lineage of OG, his Dad was a prominent baladeer too, Bert Nievera, his Dad accorded the "Johnny Mathis' of the Phil in his time. I would say his Dad belonged to the OG of group bands..at that time Society of Seven. Martin Nievera is now based in Las Vegas but visits Manila from time to time. I am glad he still performs, gives so much support to the Phil Music Industry. He was indeed a concert king in the peak of his career, along with his wife then, Pops Fernandez. When you mentioned the time of the older generation singers..that is exactly the family background Martin grew up in before he pursued music/entertainment in the Phils. I remember he also had to learn Tagalog as he pursued life in Manila, since he was born and raised in the US initially. Martin's son as I understand it manages Wishbus Phil.

Martin is the most animated entertertainer I’ve watched live. Great sense of humor and very witty too. Please watch a duet he made with Regine Velasquez doing Broadway musicals and a duet with Gary Valenciano , his rival in their earlier careers but has become a bff in their later years. It’s amazing because they sang each other’s popular songs or each other’s compositions. Truly, these two duet performances really mark their contribution to the Philippine Music Industry! This is digging deep into the treasure trove of OPM for gold. This Wish Bus performance is 2017, but I believe the song was released on an album from 2002. Long before Zack Tabudlo and Arthur Nery, Martin and Gary Valenciano changed the face of OPM. Martin is the crooning balladeer, Gary V came out with energetic danceable hits.
