I WAS HERE LIVE!!!! I was only 8 years old then and it was the first concert I attended, but everything was so vivid to me. I can literally feel the arena's vibration when Regine belts. This 2-night concert was so big that even the Philippine's President attended it with her (I think) 30+ escorts. FACTS: 1. Did they act together? YES ---- in fact, they have a mini skit in this concert shown in-betweens where they TORRIDLY KISSED 🤣🤣🤣 They even spoke in a different language and dubbed it in Tagalog to make it look like a Telenovela (Spanish dubbed in Tagalog) 2. 10 years after this, Martin admitted in an interview that he and a crush on Regine during these times 3. Martin, the PH Concert King, already had a big name when Regine was starting and he and his ex-wife gave her more exposure, even suggested Chona (Reg's nickname) should use the name "Regine". 4. During the concert, Martin's mic was set to maximum volume, while Regine's mic was set to half so that Martin cannot be overly powered by Regine's voice easily. Regine even had migraine attacks during these numbers, so bad that she was rushed to the hospital after the event. 5. Up to this day, in spite of their 30 years of friendship and contributing huge histories in each other's career, Martin is still surprised by Regine's capabilities, often claiming her his favorite singer of all time.

Wooow.... only thing I knew in your fun facts was that the late president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was there, together with Gina Lopez, but I didn't even know she had 30+ escorts too, ehehe. Wow. We were there too, and we just barely got out of our internship clinic, and were still in white uniform. We rushed to Araneta so we don't get late ahaha. We were even there at the GA (General Admission) on the top and we saw Jon Santos, and we saw him with a White dude at a time. We don't know if he was his boyfriend, hehe.... we thought we were gonna fall down as it was totally jampacked. In fact, we were standing with literally no seat up there, but the great thing was that, we got to walk all d way down the walkway, and we sat right next to the upper deck below us ehehe... so we got even closer for cheaper tickets. It was soooo full and loud everywhere. Crazy

You could hear the vast changes of manipulating vocal-color, chest & head mix ratios, even style(pop to old-school broadway), and dynamic changes for each decade. Martin nievera, a reigning concert king of The Philippines for more than 40 years now. Many singers come and went, he remains. In fact he is The only male singer in The Philippines who can match any female singer no matter How High they sung. And most of all, he compliment The female vocal. Always, perfect combination. Another song they sung together, same concert “on The wings of Love”. Mind blowing!!!!

My music background is very lacking. I had never heard of these two singers. I either like what I hear or do not. Wearing hearing aids does not help much with detecting the finer points of the singing. I do like this duo. What I enjoy every bit as much as their singing is seeing and even feeling your reaction to the sounds. You absolutely can not hold back your appreciation of singing well done. I love your heartfelt reaction to what you are watching and hearing. Your smile says it all along with facial expressions of pure joy. There was a write up before about this: Regine’s mic was at 50% lesser volume sa as to not drown Martin’s voice when they sing together - Martin is my favorite male OPM artist by the way :). Regine was also suffering from severe migrane here - she was rushed to the hospital right after this concert. Just so professional singing like that even with a migraine - this is visible in some parts where she was squinting

Hey Beth! Lovely reaction. I can tell you really have an ear for great singing. Did you know that Regine was rushed to the hospital after this due to her migraine on stage? You can see it on her facial gestures here she was in pain. But she still gave a show. She has always been "the show must go on" kind of artist. I love that you acknowledge the strength and power in her voice. She is a lyric soprano but she also has those vocal pluses, lungpower, volume and stamina. Martin Nievera even said before this concert that it is any singers fear to sing alongside Regine because of the power and volume of her voice. Another fun fact though, Regine was handpicked to audition for Miss Saigon in New York when she was only 19. She did audition and got offered to be trained in London but she didn't take it because she had no acting experience and could not live away from her family in the Philippines. Regine is heavily influenced by Barbra Streisand, she is her idol thats why you can kinda notice her vocal placement is a bit similar to Babs. You should react to her singing Piece of Sky where she was wearing a mermaid gown, it's one of her very best.

I love it when Regine only goes mid-range, not too crazy high, the mix head and chest: 5:03- 5:35, just gorgeous column of sound, to borrow your description. I think it helps that Martin is there to keep them both attuned to the storytelling of the song than their vocal prowess. Regine is every Filipino's favorite for hitting the high notes. I tune out when that happens; I know she can do it but I am not interested in belting in general. I like the Regine that tells a story in her singing. This one here, 11:13- 11:38, is just stunning.

Sometimes your comments confuse me a little bit. Some videos you say you don’t have to extend your jaw very much and can leave it in place, and other times you say that it’s good that the person lowered the jaw down and back. Which is it? Most teacher say you’re supposed to drop your jaw and have it down and back, so are you different or the same? Thanks.
@TheVocalyst
@TheVocalyst Жыл бұрын
I definitely understand the confusion! I think of them as two separate subjects. 1) How much you release your jaw, and 2) The position of your jaw. I'm a big advocate for not overextending the jaw, but when you do drop your jaw (no matter how much), I teach a down and back position rather than allowing the jaw to pull forward. Hopefully this helps! ❤

I love it when reactors just soak into the music they're watching. It's obvious that music feeds your soul. There was a time when Regine and Martin with other equally amazing singers - Pops Fernandez, Ogie Alcasid, Zsa Zsa Padilla and Jaya - all host a noontime TV show. Imagine all of them taking on a variety of songs every weekend, doing solos, duets, etc., taking on every genre, although most were ballads that showcase their great singing abilities. Nowadays, there's ASAP, with them (minus Jaya who is now in the US), joined by other new wonderful artists as well. Every show is like a concert. 😊

Good thing this was a concert where the sound was better. I cannot not stand the sound quality of Filipino TV shows, back then, even now, which is why Wishbus came from nowhere and became the standard for showcasing Filipino vocal talents. What TV cannot really do for our singers, what was lacking on TV, Wishbus was able to do. Those TV shows with these talents unfortunately didn't give justice to their voices so I never watched them. I still don't know why they didn't have the quality of the sound of concerts but I guess, TV didn't have the sound system used in concerts. Or TV shows never really wanted to give some respect to our singers if you consider that many of old shows and concerts did not have good recording. Fortunately, this performance was in a concert where the quality of the sound was much better.

"Off course they were professionals" Most Filipino singers do not do trainings, we can't afford. 😂 So... no, Regine was not trained by professionals, her father had a belief that if you sing under the sea, your chest will be more powerful. And viola, she joins singing contests for a living and now she is the Queen of Philippine Music.

I love how genuine your reactions are. I enjoyed watching this video. This is one if not the best Broadway Musical Medley. I got goosebumps all over my body a lot of times throughout this masterpiece. This was such an incredible night for all of them and how lucky the live audiences there witnessing the legends performing. :)
