The CloudFisher collects drinking water from fog without requiring energy. It is the first standard fog collector in the world resisting to wind speeds of up to 120 km/h. It is quickly installed, does not require additional energy and is extremely low-maintenance. All used materials are food safe.
The german Waterfoundation has spent two years researching and developing the CloudFisher. It can supply hundreds of thousands of people with top-quality drinking water complying with the WHO drinking water standards. It is used around the world in mountain or coastal regions with scarce rainfalls and frequent fog.

They have recently installed a few nets in the southern areas of Morocco, close to the Sahara. And it is collecting a good amount of water for the use of villagers. God bless.

He it is Who sends down water from the sky; from it you drink and from it the vegetation on which you send your cattle to pasture. With it He causes to grow for you the crops, the olives, the date palms, the grapes, and every kind of fruit. Verily, in this is indeed an evident proof and a manifest sign for a people who give thought. (Al-Quran, Surah An-Nahl: 10-11)

Staking out sails on mountain tops with unbound edges and tying them down with commercial rubber bungee cords with open hooks connected to open hooks will start to come apart in the 60 or 70-mile-an-hour wind that comes it's way. There are way too many sharp wires ends and sharp metal brackets to shred the membrane. It must be inexpensive, but it is no excuse for an installation that has no chance of lasting. As a farmer. that faces dry weather to drought every year, but 3 or 5 out of the 65 years I've had a dog in the fight farming, they could have found people to train how to build the site, install and maintain the membranes. Any place it only rains twice a year, a steady water supply is important to many people. I don't know how it was done, but the narrator and the video gave the impression an NGO stuck steel poles in the ground and hired a bunch of indifferent locals to hang the fabric with minimum tools and equipment, then passed the lack of repair off as being to complex for locals. I've thought farm labor, some I couldn't understand as we spoke different languages new technology. It takes some time and repetition. Someone would have to spend time showing them how the system works and climbing ladders demonstrating repairs. You can't hand someone technology that appears to them as magic and expect them to understand and repair it.

If the site is susceptible to periodic fogs early in the morning, it will certainly work. (A clue may be to observe if there are any plants or moss on the stone in those areas). Everything will depend on the density of the fog and the correct storage of the collected water to avoid evaporation during the hottest hours.

For the same time,effort and cost you could have installed solar panels and a solar pump to pump the water from the same well that they are getting it before the nets. It will be even cheaper and so much less maintenence. Except keeping the panels clean.

Since they positioned these fog catchers on the mountain they could pipe the water down using gravty.
@anneeq008
@anneeq008 Жыл бұрын
This is simply a net and a few channels. Far far FAAAAARRRR cheaper than expensive solar panels, drilling, pumping etc. And most people forget that installing these panels is one thing. But the expertise to maintain them is SEVERELY lacking, especially in such remote places like this.

I hope some billionaire takes up this project and finances as many projects as possible. It's insane that women and children are spending their days carrying water in this age. The netting shown is a great improvement and should be available at cost plus a small profit; perhaps a way could be made to 'knit' the nets from local indigenous materials such as rushes or grass?
