For those who don't know: Emil Berliner Studios are housed in the former Hansa Studios, so the stairwell you see there used as an echo chamber was most likely also used on David Bowie's "Heroes", recorded just a floor above.

From your comments you might be interested in a small series of records pressed via polygram in 1985. I’m working very slowly on a video about them currently. It accompanied a monthly classical magazine so no audiophile would normally touch it but the unique aspect is that it included around 20 DG classical recordings cut to vinyl by the remaining Decca vinyl mastering engineers including 3 by the legendary Ted Burkett. Some of these sound rather lovely with more pep than the original DG pressings but do not have the heft nor unsurprisingly the expense of OS remasters!

@@musiconrecord6724 it’s “the great composers and their music”, I’ve always ignored these records when they’ve popped up in charity bins but I had a look when I came across a near complete set that had been donated and was flabbergasted when I started seeing Burkett’s G code on the deadwax of DG and Philips recordings. I ended up buying most of them!

The included video about OS and Karajan and Bruckner is ‘herrlich’. Please more content like that! Talking about wishes for the future I completely agree with Mark's request for chamber music and I I would just like to add a consideration. We cannot fully understand the so called “classical music” without vocal music (in particular choir music and Lieder) and organ music. In both these areas the DG catalogue is full of treasures. Last but not least I hope that there will also be a rediscovery of mono tapes...
@musiconrecord67242 ай бұрын
We shall see... vocal and organ music are always somewhat niche, but you never know. Alas, mono is not in the purview of this series (1970s era), BUT - I am hoping that eventually DG/EBS goes back to their 60s catalogue as they have done with a few select vinyl reissues in the past.

Many congratulation to DG and a big thank you to both Rainer and Sidney for giving us stunning sounds, superb realism of players presence and fantastic dynamics, now comes the bad bit, I bought so far 16 releases all form Amazon, 10 had to be replaced once and some times twice, 3 of the remains 6 I have still have faults, basically sloppy handling of records at some stage all had marks and dents resulting in few loud ticks in some and almost a minute in others. the 3 marked records I could not replace as amazon ran out, without Amazon’s return police I wouldn’t have ventured so far in the series, perhaps my faith in the pressing plant has dwindled, I decided not buy a box contains 17 LPs which I am certain several will have issues. When the record is unmarked it produces the best sound I have ever had from my system.
@musiconrecord67242 ай бұрын
I am so sorry you had this bad luck, and that it has deterred you from buying this amazing box. As I mentioned in my Tracking Angle review, I had two LPs with scratches which I felt I could live with. Otherwise my pressings were immaculate. Have you considered buying from somewhere more conducive to exchanging defective LPs, like Presto Music or DG itself?
@saminabeel12662 ай бұрын
@@musiconrecord6724 Thank you for taking time to respond to my comment. Amazon are the most conducive to exchanging defective LPs that’s why I am using them, I am a client of Presto and have bought thousands of CDs from them in the past and still do, indeed buying the Original DG LPs from them is around 20% less than Amazon as well as buying directly form DG in Germany however I sticking with Amazon for LP because of their immediate return policy If a replacement is in stock They will ship immediately for next day delivery and allow me 30 days for the return. I think it’s a great shame that the wonderful and brilliant work of Rainer and Sidney is not handled with more care. In my collection I have around 200 LPs from Analogue Productions QRP both Jazz and Classical I had to replace 3 records (1.5%) this is excellent considering the fragility of records. If AP & QRP can do it DG should be able to do so particularly when they are priced similarly. I suppose DG do not care to demand better quality control from their pressing contractor as long as they are selling what they produce as seems to be the current case. This is short term insight as I know of many people who are abandoning this series which is a shame. DG would do well to learn from AP and QRP how to maintain quality control for the long term.

@@musiconrecord6724 Which causes me to ask why this set cannot be released digitally. I appreciate there has been a terrific cost in both time and money with this project so streaming is too much to expect but a lossless download would remove all the faulty pressing issues. It's certainly novel to release this on vinyl but it was truly the worst medium for classical music and we have most definitely moved on.

Do you think mastering at night helped the SQ because of maybe less electrical mush around? Most acknowledge the importance of mains and I ask following a revelatory experience listening to a friend’s system that improved phenomenally when being isolated from the mains by solar power (obviously an extreme example)

I have purchased a couple of DGG Original Source and am somewhat disappointed with the outcome. I have both original DGG pressings of the two remastered DGG OSS versions. The issue is , with the DGG OSS versions, the sound is better but the music is worse. In hifi terms the DGG OSS versions a much clearer, with better separation of instruments. However, the musical expression is lacking compared to the OG versions. Examples of this is a lack of Microdynamics shading and ambient information. Apart from the musical aspects the overall depth (front to back) of soundstage is flat in comparison to the OG versions. My suspicion is there is magnetic tape loss that would account for the loss of subtlety, which results in reducing the music into a common dynamic plane. I was disappointed because I actually wanted these DGG Original Source to be musically superior. Other people's mileage may vary.

Unfortunately DG can still not press a record properly. Sonic greatness ruined by bad pressings...4 of 5 purchases of DG Orig Source I purchased were unacceptably pressed. Proceed with caution.
