I’ll tell ya what, this locomotive it wayyyy cool looking and that Soundtraxx2 is even better. George from Soundtraxx is beyond awesome for any kinda help needed. Don’t be intimidated by setting up the DDE and braking functions. They are really fun to use and to experiment with. Great though quick review!

Really nice to have the guy from soundtraxx to let us in on some cool features! I will say James the review part felt very rushed so I wasn’t a big fan of that. Looks like a great model and I’ll be picking one up.
@hohobbyist10985 жыл бұрын
Well, it's a product demo, not a review. Probably why it felt rushed.
@jlwii20005 жыл бұрын
product demo, I labeled it that because 1) I had an industry rep right in the room, reviews would be a little more indpenedent. 2) Because I wanted George to walk you through, several regular review portions got bypassed.

Correct me if I'm wrong, James, but I'm not all that sure the BNSF GP-50 is a rebuild from a GP-25. The 3100 series were the very last order of locomotives for Frisco. By the time they arrived, BN had already taken over by Nov. 1980. The GP-50 were still in Frisco's mandarin orange and white yet with BN numbers posted in black. One of the giveaways that it used to be a Frisco diesel is the pump-style handbrake on the fireman's side in its own notch rather than the usual brake wheel.
@tex-hogger49745 жыл бұрын
The GP-25 is actually a derated GP50. They derated them so they will not have to be tier rated after rebuid/referbishing.
@trainnut19585 жыл бұрын
@@tex-hogger4974 Thanks for the info! 👍
@tex-hogger49745 жыл бұрын
The handbrake is actually a ratchet style, but is it electric. There should be a small button control pannel to apply/release it. This one tagged with the RCL stickers means it can be used as a remote in switching operations. The strobe is only operating when in remote. These are labeled as GP25s because they are derated GP50s. Most of them have been rebuilt/refreshed, and put into yard/local service.
@ovationpdh5 жыл бұрын
That's not an old style brake mounted on the nose but a new electronic brake that was added at rebuild.

Hi James, good video bud, and a great loco. Two questions one for you and one for George, do the cab doors open, because they look like they might? For George , can the load effect feature be used in consisting? Thanks Dave B.
@goaliegeorge5 жыл бұрын
ruatrainman2 Dave, thanks for watching. Yes! The DDE can operate while consisting. I usually set the sensitivity low in CV 2.512 so they all will be more coordinated. Check out the videos on our SoundTraxx KZbin channel for more info!

Subscribe to SoundTraxx KZbin channel, we just did a webinar last month using 3 of the major DCC systems, so this may help you with your selection. The archive version should be published soon. I suggest trying them all out and decide for yourself which is best. They all have their bonuses and limitations, so, only you can decide for your own tastes and feel. I hope this helps!

So do you have to use the programing on main setting to set the dde?
@goaliegeorge5 жыл бұрын
Unpaid Intern the decoder calibrates the motor power consumption, so ideally, it should. However you ca set these CVS manually, but you may not get the best results. Just remember, programming on the main is no different than sending a function command, the command is prefaces with an address, so only that decoder with the address will respond. For more info, check out the SoundTraxx KZbin channel (we just did a video on this topic..), or contact our support department. Thanks for watching!

Great looking model and nice to hear about the air conditioner sounds, all the lights, and CV this and CV that. One picture worth a thousand words so when the engine jerks forward and stops on a dime the whole presentation is lost for me. Hope this hobby someday grows up and develops beyond this unprototypical, toyish performance that keeps my wallet remaining shut....
@andrewgray41435 жыл бұрын
Josedav: you can program momentum into the engine if you’re running on DCC.
@GP9railfan4 жыл бұрын
Josedav, these aren’t fine tuned out of the box. You have to program the momentum and braking, etc. if you want them to run prototypical,, which isn’t hard to do if you know how to program a DVR, you can enter your own personalized CV’s into these for maximum realism.

Athearn is usually pretty good about detail accuracy, but those beacons are hideous, I've got UP gp-40 1390 and the beacons aren't even close to the real thing. Not to mention, the real BNSF 3110 only has a beacon on the conductors side. This is unacceptable Athearn
