Truly amazing! I can see A.I is going to be used everywhere in almost all aspects of life & art. The more people think something isn't possible the more I think it actually is. Imagine seeing this vid 10 years ago. Gotta embrace it rather than fall behind. I think so many business will die purely because they are stuck in old ways. This tutorial just blew my mind. It's amazing to see how AI can be used as a tool to create new scenes that would otherwise be impossible or require a ton of resources to travel. That said, there's nothing that can compete with your years of experience in photography to make the lighting and editing "feel" real. Maybe AI will get there someday but until then, thanks for sharing your insights! Subscribed.

A real informative series, thank you.The one thing that I dislike is people viewing it as an easy process, but you do need to know good prompting, actual design and without a doubt creativity. Ive recently viewed a couple of channels boosting the idea of logo making using AI which is great if you know the theory but not if you are a beginner designer thinking it will make you rich. But the fusion of both worlds is immensely interesting, and this shows a proper way of applying it or at least one idea of it. Keep up the fun vids! :)

Great job! Matching the light source and image masking is key. I've been using this technique with live action for a while now with very nice results. Great work. Any suggestion what you would do if a client wanted to change a specific other part of the image? ie swap lime in the foreground of 2nd composition with a slice of watermelon? would it be possible using seeds to prompt a different base image like that?
@botvidsson
@botvidsson Жыл бұрын
It will be hard but maybe not impossible if you use the unique seed number for your image and then use the --no command. Might work if you're very very lucky. 😁 I'm not sure yet how this can be used, for clients? Or for portfolio? Or for mood-board for clients? Show different ideas for the client and then when you get a GO from the client you literally work out to the forest and create a real photo.

Both images really have their own atmosphere going, which is the most important thing, for me. It's amazing how (comparatively) quickly one can now try out a scene like the second picture without buying all the props first. I love seeing such a great and innovative approach to product photography. Although I agree with other comments, it’s not the fastest way to make a background image and comp it with the product, that’s not the idea of this video but to show how you can incorporate ai to your daily work. One thing that caught my eye is that the bottle in the second image is WAY off in terms of perspective, imho it’s so off that won’t be usable. Thanks for the videos though, really informative series!
@botvidsson
@botvidsson Жыл бұрын
Totally agree! That's why I mostly show the forest one 😁 We did not redo the shoot properly when we hit the rec button. No excuse but it was a long day, very tired. Even though it was very close that I cut the blue bottle out of the video, I felt I did not want to when we put in so much work. After all, the videos on my channel = to inspire! Not to make every single photo client ready 😁 Buy the way, I don't think it's WAY off, just a bit. But a tiny bit off is very sensitive. Thanks

I really love the idea of where this AI intersects with photography. My question is about the resolution. It's showing at 1024px x 1024px and can be "beta" upscaled. When I tried the upscale the image became usable (too much unwanted detail). I tried the Beta Redo and that was much worse. Martin, I'm curious if you have a workaround or is this just where we are with the technology at the moment. Thank you so much for these videos.
@botvidsson
@botvidsson Жыл бұрын
Thanks Jennifer! Well in Midjourney 5 the images are a bit bigger and I just click the regular upscale. Think they took away the Beta Redo... When I upscale the upscaled MJ image in Photoshop Enhance function the image is almost 3000px on the longest side (3:2 ratio) and it will work for portfolio, mood boards, instagram et cetera.

Ahoy Martin! How did you export images from mid journey to use in post? For a photographer that shoots mostly one light and one photo using backdrops and props in the photo to make a more natural photo, one idea I have now is a quicker video with the process of prompting, exporting, shooting a product with one light (and probably one photo as well) and using it in post. That'd be a much appreciated video for photographers in general I guess

You're welcome. Right now the images very small, around 1400 pixels on the longest side. Hard to say if it's good enough for print. Here's an image I upscaled to around 6000 pixels: shared-assets.adobe.com/link/d65b8708-ec1d-4925-5e54-d2a4377cceed

Yes, correct. Gigapixel. But... this image I think I used the free online upscaling tool www.upscale.media/upload It all depends on what kind of image you manage to create, this is probably the best upscaling image I ever created.

Beautiful images! I think an important question if you want to use this in a business though is if you can copyright an image like this. So far in the US it seems AI generated art is not copyrightable. This is a bit different because it is a combination of your work and AI so who knows. If you can't copyright it though it would be hard to license rights to it.
@botvidsson
@botvidsson Жыл бұрын
Yes, very true. For the moment I don't think this should be used as a final client image, this is more like a reference or client presentation idea image. When you get a go from the client you start producing the image, the real photograph. However, if a client want to use this real/AI image from Midjourney, that might be a problem. I hope they will solve this issue soon, or we have to move to one of the other AI gen tools.

If I’m not mistaken, MidJourney allows you to have the copyright if you are using the paid version. You’d have to check the user agreement but that’s what I remember seeing. If that’s the case then, yes, the photographer/creator would hold those rights. I’m not a lawyer just passing alone what I’ve seen.
@botvidsson
@botvidsson Жыл бұрын
@@jonlockwood1996 Yes, if you are a paying midjourney customer you can in a sense use the image however you want if you do not create already copyrighted creations such as Spiderman. Even if you create unique images, you can never copyright your AI generated work unless you add and alternate the image enough that your personal handiwork can be considered to surpass the AI generated image. That's how I interpreted the US law. However, this will be on a case to case basis if you can get a copyright or not.

AI upscaling is certainly better than earlier tools, but it’s still no panacea. It works quite well for filling in skin details and keeping object contours clean (if still a bit overworked), but these particular subjects - glass, reflections, etc. - create areas of detail that don’t upscale crisply or cleanly. This is especially a concern for the spirits market, where the brand image of a quality product is paramount. Midjourney et al will improve resolution over time (and probably sooner than expected), but it’s not good enough today for magazine ads or billboards. That said, this video series is an excellent exploration into adopting new imaging tools into the pipeline.

I'm wondering how long it will take Midjourney to offer a premium tier that generates images greater than 2K. Imagine the impact that this process would have on professional projects if the start point was an 8K image or larger!

Have you tried running the imsge from midjorney through any upscalers? I'd imagine it would be a ness since midjounrey definitely relies still on our brain filing in detail where there either isn't any or the details are wrong. Like it'll look very realistic but if you zoom in on stuff you'll see a lot of leaves, grass or smaller objects are actually just nonsense on a small scale and only look like a leaf or what have you because of positioning and context. However it's certainly come a long way already in just a year.

@@ancientflames I have, but I haven't achieved any results that I would consider 'production quality' (yet!). It's true that the image may be bigger, however the details are usually off. What we have now is great for digital campaigns for sure. I can't see it working for print quite yet (does anyone still do print campaigns? ha). The quality bar is set very high for still life product photography, but you're right, it's come a very long way in a year and I can't wait to see what the next year brings.

I am curious why you are not using programs such as stable diffusion to train AI to learn the appearance of your product, and then directly produce the scene and approximate appearance of the bottle, followed by adding text post-production. It's maybe a little too early to say what I think about the whole AI thing, but one thing is for sure, I find it incredibly exciting with new technology and I'm happy to jump on the bandwagon and see if it can give me inspiration in my profession as a photographer. Again, a bit early to say what it will bring but I think it will be very useful in the near future so why not start exploring it. Around the ethical point of view. Like photographers looking at other photographers images for inspiration, the AI tool does the same. There is not a single stolen pixel. I see no problem if an AI tool is inspired by others images (or my) to create a background for my product shoot.

AI will never be human. We love humans because humans have flaws. AI can emulate flaws, but will never be able to create out of frustration and sorrow, or joy and passion. The much I have seem, in terms of text and images, is pretty much dull. It is excellent, but untill the moment I see a work of art created by a computer that has cut it's ear off with a razor blade and painted it, it won't impress me much.

So again, how is this different and new from simply downloading any picture off the internet, upscaling it and using it as background for some compositing? Its the same in terms of resolution, control, creativity, ethics, legal rights to copyright it, and so on - you just get less deformations and errors. It seems to me that if you gave most people the searchbar of Adobe Stock, Pinterest or Artstation and told them this is an AI image generator, they couldnt tell the difference.

It can create scenes that simply don't exist elsewhere. For example I had it make an old 80s style computer sitting half buried in sand on the beach. From there all I did was edit something onto the screen in a realistic way. I don't know about you but I don't think I could find a stock image for that very easily or get the rights to it for a reasonable price. Meanwhile midjounrey is $10/mo for use and like $40/mo for commercial rights too.

@@ancientflames Is this the case really, do we see "scenes that dont exist elsewhere"? I see mostly totally generic stuff in teal and organge.
