That's a great review Evan! Taking the mystery out of the AK products one step at a time ahaha! Top notch my friend! One suggestion if I may, the way I use those products is by creating vertical streaks by varying length and thickness (as well as colour variation as you mentioned) across the entire length of the vertical member and then stumping them with a flat brush moistened in white spirits. Almost resembles the oil dot filtering technique. Anyways, can't wait to see more stuff from you! Cheers!

Thanks Brad :) Yeah I say a tutorial by MiG and he did it that way. But whenever I try that it all goes to hell lol I find this gives me more control over the individual streaks as I like to work one, shall I say, 'piece' of weathering at a time :D I like the little details but it takes a while though hehe. Anyways thanks for your two cents man :)

I just want to add a little bit .... to your Fine Review ! It would be advisable to coat the model in Future floor wax... or another Acrylic Clear Coat of your choice and let it thoroughly dry; before using those product over all Enamel base paints if people still use those? and also on all Acrylics based paints.. in order to fully protect your model ! as of late, I ended up having a few issues with AK weathering products! I am still tracing the problem... not sure if it was their Normal white spirit that caused the reaction or the product itself ? Because the Normal AKi white spirit is stronger than their brand of Odorless thinner ! I had discoloration issues and paint bubbling ! so... better be safe than sorry ! I hope you never get recations... but I still wanted to share some of my troubles.... Nice Demo by the way ! Just don't trust your paint to always behave and be immune to AKi weathering products.... if one day you have a reaction and it is not protected...? you might hate yourself... Take care buddy !
@Panzermeister3610 жыл бұрын
Ah yeah I forgot to mention that Norm :P Thanks for the reminder though! :)

You did good on that Demo ! a lot of people have a hard time with the streaks... You my friend did it like a pro ! Keep up the good work !
Future is awful on anything you don't want to glosscoat...

Did you use a clear coat on top the paint? If so what did you use?

+Eric Pellerin No I don't use a clear coat. I really should, though...

+Panzermeister36 Hey PM36. We spoke on another video about problems I was having with reactions between white spirits and a Tamiya dull coat. Just wanted to let you know that I've found the solution, and it may also help with the question posed above. Future (Pledge here in Canada) floor polish is the cats meow. I had been hesitant to put anyyhing designed for floors on my tanks for awhile, even with all the good reviews. After applying it with a brush, because I didn't trust putting through my airbrush, it went on beautifully. Not only is it cheap, but it coats perfectly, dries quickly, and protects your paint while giving an awesome surface for enamel/acrylic weathering and decals. I have found that I actually use less weathering solutions because it shows up better. The only problem I have found is that you can't use acrylic thinners like x-20a because it will react, but I use all enamel and distilled water for that stuff anyway. Hope it helps somebody else. For me it has been the greatest discovery of my first year at modelling.

Can i use this products on top of my enamal paint and enamal matt clear coat? Or will it work better with acrylic base paint and coat? What will happen if i use this product ontop of my enamal paint model? Please help. Thanks

how long do you let the rust streak dry for before you use the white spirit (sprit) ? mine wont dissolve hehe

I leave it for no more than a few minutes, and sometimes I don't even really wait at all.

I assume we need a Glossy finish to apply this technique, right ? As in a matt surface, thinner tends to spread around while cleaning the streaks and enlarges the lines.
@Panzermeister367 жыл бұрын
I always work on a matte surface. I never have the issue you describe there.
@slammer75207 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I've tried the same earlier today (thinned Humbrol enamel w/ White spirit over Vallejo's Matt Varnish), but no matter how little paint i grab on the brush, when i touch the surface, it quickly spreads. Then i've cleaned them with Spirit again, but the whole process wasn't as easy as you do here :(
@Panzermeister367 жыл бұрын
I never use enough white spirit to even allow it to spread. I use a thin brush that is only a little bit damp with thinners to blend oils or enamels around, so I don't really get an thinner on the surface, rather I use the thinners in the brush to absorb the excess paint. If gloss works best then by all means use that, I just find that surface to be far too smooth for any wearing to bite onto very well.

I really like these products and have been using them a lot recently. Good review Evan. Hopefully others will try them out. Norms tip re a coat of future works well and protects the paint when you start blending the products with thinners.

Thanks Mark :) Yeah I really like AK's products too, though I can never find their or MiG's washes :( Yeah I probably should have mentionned the clear coat in the vid too :P

nice demo mate. Btw, is it ok to spray a coat of matt or tamiya flat clear over the whole model after....once it is dry? Just to protect it when handling?
@Panzermeister3610 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tung :) Yeah I'd recommend spraying clear or some gloss coat on beforehand if you can just in case it reacts with the paint strangely. Afterwards a matt coat would be a great idea to seal it in the end.

Yeeeup I'm doing a panther G from tamiya,my first model built! Although I'm trying to save up enough money for an eastern front diorama. My friend let me borrow his airbrush so the camp looks really neat! I really over emphasized the micro chipping on the hatches but pigments helped blend it it nicely lol

Thanks Hunter :) Glad you like the review. Yeah I'd love to buy AMMO to support Mig himself and because that stuff is awesome and the colours are bang-on, but I can't get AMMO in Canada yet. And if I order it through the US I'll be paying $15 a bottle due to "brokerage fees" and other crap at the border lol
@huntercraft166810 жыл бұрын
When I asked ian about it, he said somethjng about shop owners paying to much and as a result, you and your club would pay way to much. So I will ask ian to find a distributer for the products in canada so you can get their products and pay a reasonable price. And Ammo stuf is awesome lol the paints dont need thinning (which is good becuasenim not good at it yet lol) and brush on great to lol and I just want them to release a dry mud pigment and a few others lol but all of those are coming soon jaaj
