Great vid guys! Though one tip from my experience of using enamel washes, is using makeup sponges to pull it back, rather than q-tips, as they tend to leave little fibers all over the place that you inevitably only notice later!

This has been an extremely helpful video even for a fan who isn't *as* into the mini painting as I am other aspects of gaming (I love *watching* the process at the hands of others, but my own arthritic hands love *doing* it considerably less). My primary hobby-crafting through off-&-on quarantines has been upping my leather & wood working game, though. This breakdown on various streaking grimes was *hugely* informative in helping me decide what directions I do & don't want to go with color & brand options, for "aging/antiquing" details like the metal fixtures on my wares 😁 Thanks guys!

Interesting vid! I think it's hard to rank these objectively due to the specific nature of each effect. I think even the "worst" ones could be considered the best in the right situation on the right model/diorama. Thanks for showing us what they all look like :) I quite like the green algae effects myself, because I love the overgrown/mouldy/mossy type of look.

Nice showcase! I like both the subtle and the heavy effects tbh. They both have their uses. I don't use mine in an airbrush tho… I just dab them where I want them with a regular brush and then use mineral spirits in the brush if I want to make it look more natural. The dark streaking grime is good for sooty, soaked-through mud stains on clothes, and the rust ones make for good dried bloodstains.

You guys should do a poll on KZbin about this, if we like or dont like streak&grime and if we think its to much to use it all the time (spoiler, its to much, its a product that best suitable for trench war stuff and scale models and some very speciffic armys and models in the miniature world, at least that maroon colored one, the light once got a few more applications) and the 3 rust effects once are best for that, rust and stippled on and stippled in to each other while still wet

You can't re-activate oil washes after a week... Being an acolyte of the oil, a lover of the linseed, and a taste-tester of tubes, myself, there's still a value to having a product that operates on a purely evaporative basis...
@Virakotxa

You have a point. It's for convenience at achieving a uniform shade and application consistency... They transition well, and the gloss is very spot on. They are not as good as oils, though, to further work on them once dried. But shorter drying time can be both a pro and a con.

You guy's interaction and humor is the absolute best. Still completely not sold on the Jazza streaking grime though.. I am more on the subtle side of things. All the heavily grimed mini's just look very unhygenic and dirty. Sometimes that's ok, but also, you often have mini's that have some level of pride in themselves and keep themselves and their clothing/accessories clean... I am more a friend of the latter type of mini's.

I think streaking grine can give a very cool and quick effect, but using it on a finished paintjob tends to really desaturate it and reduce contrast :/
@AceFrahm
@AceFrahm 2 жыл бұрын
But if your painting plan takes that into account beforehand, you can pre-select colors of extra saturation so that your end result after the grime lands where you intend it to. You can could conduct a multi-color test on a board made from the same material as the model, perhaps even with a texture pattern molded into the board.
