Great video and lots of good tips. I did a small bar top. I was so close to perfect...but I had to try and put a little more on and messed it all up..lol..so I sanded the waves down. My problem/question: what do I use to clean the sanding scratches so they don't show through when I apply again? I have been using mineral spirits but when it drys I still see the scratches.
@Coolbreeze61
@Coolbreeze61 2 жыл бұрын
The answer is you have to blend the scratches with the wood, in other words it has be perfectly smooth (it's so hard to do that sometimes it's easier to just start over with a new piece of wood)

Hi, I know this is an older video but I used this as a newer tumbler maker and it gives me a horrible headache. The smell for me is awful to the point of a headache. It’s great that it works for you and others. My mistake is not wearing a respirator mask, I have read ppe is key to safety.

Soo I hope you still see the comments being a year later. Kind of new to these types of projects. I refinished a table top and painted it black. I thought a glaze coat would look good. I just did the pour. It doesn’t seem to be even. I made sure the table was level, and the paint job cured for a week before I started. It’s at the point of no return now. Will it level itself out, or will I have to sand this thing down and do more coats? Anyone have any ideas?
@Coolbreeze61
@Coolbreeze61 3 жыл бұрын
So sorry for the very late reply, for some reason I don't get notification of new comments anymore and that started last year. The leveling out is depending on how Dependent long you waited to pour it on and how much heat you apply when getting the bubbles out, it you hold the heat in one area to long it speeds up the hardening and then it won't level at all
@Coolbreeze61

Hey friend, just an update. After 7 days, the thin coat I applied was still tacky. Yes, I did a 1:1 ratio. Not happy. Should've done a test coat on a different piece. I guess the mistake I made was thinking the Famowood was more like an epoxy based product and expected that final result. End of story is I used JB Weld epoxy over the undried Famowood and got the result I was looking for. Now I will say I absolutely loved the sheen from the Famowood. So my question to you is- How thick of a coat did you do on that table, and how long did it take to set?
@Coolbreeze61
@Coolbreeze61 6 жыл бұрын
I've never had a problem with it being tacky/sticky after 24 hours in fact i can usually handle it the very next day (did you do yours In-doors or out-doors). my coats are 1/8 inch or as thick as i can get, I've wasted a lot of glaze coat trying to get it thicker. To date I've gone through approx 7 gallons of it. I'm sorry your experience was bad

Admittedly the first time I used the product the end result was a little tacky. However I didn't follow the instructions in doing a sealing coat. It was tacky for a week.... 2nd time using it I didn't experience this. Temps were around 68f both times around.

William B it may have been the temperature. It recommends 70 degrees and up. I’m doing this over a coffee table tomorrow in my garage, hopefully the weather makes for a good result. Thanks for the advice on if it doesn’t work out.

@Coolbreeze61
@Coolbreeze61 5 жыл бұрын
you may have to put 2 coats on depending on if the clear coat soaks in more than expected, (that happened to me), if that does happen you'll need to wait a day or two so that it cures completely and then you'll need to sand the whole surface (just enough to scuff it up) and the reason for that is so that you'll be able to see where you've missed when putting on the second coat other wise if you don't sand it it is really hard to see where the new coat vs old coat is. if you haven't already please subscribe and if you know of any one else that might be interested in something like this please share it with them. good luck

I used this product on a 5'x6' 3D floor after spending $200 on the image placing it to floor and cleaning and immediately pouring. First it din't level well after the 3rd coat we mastered having it level and found no bubbles. Had nice shine. Here is the problem this product is not hard. It scratches easily an clouds as a result. After about 3 months it was peeling off own to the vinyl. And floor was garbage. After 8 days work and a lot off money the floor needs covered with rug to not destroy expensive image. If your using on something with little use this product may be fine. But NOT for heavy use!!!

I just used this product on a new wood counter. I ended up using two coats because the first coat became my seal coat. After it dried, i gave it a light sanding with 400 grit paper to open any remaining bubbles. I had to do that because with it being new wood, it kept producing bubbles, even though I was using a torch to pop them. After sanding and wiping with a tack cloth, I poured a second coat. I "tented" the counter over night with a big sheet of plastic. The next day, I was floored when I saw the final results. That was my first experience with any kind of epoxy resin. Now I know to put a very thin seal coat and then a nice thick top coat. The gloss is like glass. I'm already working on my next project.
