Product Review: Hurley Phantom Hyperweave Boardshort (& Hurley Dri-Fit Compression)

Thanks for the video. I also wear size 31 in the standard Phantoms, but size 30 was the only pair they had left in the recently discounted HURLEY PHANTOM HYPERWEAVE ELITE (USA), so I bought them. I trust you! Can't wait to try them on…hopefully they fit

Had mine a few months now, they are excellent but the phantom printing did wear off all 3 pairs after about 5 days out. I'll definitely be buying another pair but I will be saving them for comps in future and sticking with my trusty Oneils for daily outs, had them 10+years and still look and feel like new. I think maybe Hurley went a little to light with these, if you want a pair that's going to last these are not for you, but if you don't care and want to turn heads then these are the best about currently in my opinion. Just go easy on them and hand wash in cold water with no detergents should give them a little extra life. Also if buying go at least a size down from your regular Hurleys maybe even 2, if you can try them before you buy you would be wise to do so.

I can not find any information on the new fly design in modern board shorts such as Volcom’s Cinch fly? Why the h3ll does no one make a video about the Cinch fly? I have not seen any modern boardshorts since the 1990s. I am abroad where there are no boardshorts.

Ordered these and the green pair earlier today, i expected them to be a bit loose so went a size down anyway, glad i did after watching this. Hate the idea of wearing underwear though, can't do that. Nice vid, thanks for the info.

Dude, these are rad boardshorts! I just picked up my first pair of Hurley’s…the Phantom Block Party Heather. I tend to run in between sizes 32 and 33. I went with the 33. They fit great. Same sizing with the Hyperweave? Would you recommend the Block Party over the Hyperweave? Is the Hyperweave really that much thinner?

Hi, I would lean toward 32. But really, I suggest find a way to try them on because they are different. Between the 2 styles, personally I love my hyperweaves. The only downside to them is the flex a bit when you dive headfirst into the water, but they look sick and are incredibly comfortable. I would say go with whatever style you will be most happy with look wise cause you will probably be happy with either.

+George Panton: Thanks for the feedback. I tried out the Phantom Block Party Heather boardshorts this weekend. They are awesome! Fit, comfortability and performance is spot on. I can see needing to size down with the Hyperweaves. Nike.com offers free shipping and returns, so I'll start with the 32s. I am really digging the Hyperweave Flow. And I still would go commando with these even though they are thinner.

George Panton how do you feel about the fly? Sometimes I face chafing and I can't never find the right boardshorts for my needs. Is there stitching on the inside?

Hi Dylan, Thanks for watching. Personally I love the fly on these. The feel very "liberating" haha. I will double check on the stitching when I get home, but I assume the answer is yes, but it would be minimal. The difference here is you don't have the big flap of extra fabric like a normal fly. Although I have no way of knowing if these will give you a rash, I would assume these baggies are your best hope. Best of luck!

Is there any difference between those hurley compression shorts and regular nike pro combat compression shorts?

Hello, yes definitely. The weave is tighter and there must be some water repellency. I feel a difference out of the water in terms a breath-ability. Traditional Nike compression shorts breathe really well compared to the surf ones. Both will work in both situations, but the Hurley compression perform better in water and the Nike compression perform better in the gym. Hope this help!
