Amy, this is by far the BEST video/explanation/comparison I have seen about black ink pads. Thank you so much. My husband is a chemist who deals with both solvent and water soluable resins and compounds ALL the time. When I asked him about what it means on the Versafine Black Onyx as being "oil based," he said it simply means "solvent" such as acetone, alcohol, odorless mineral spirits, etc. He believes the Versafine contains ordorless mineral spirits. Just FYI. Different companies, especially foreign ones who manufacture inks and other products use a nomenclature that is sometimes different than what we Americans use. It's ok, it's just different. I really, really like my new pad of Versafine Black Onyx. Great stuff!

Amy I can't tell you how many times I've been in Michael's staring at the collection of ink pads, trying to pick what I might need and then just feeling totally overwhelmed by it all. LOL! For anyone just starting out with stamping and papercrafting, the amount of supplies available out there can be confusing. I am going to have a look through the ones I have and label them according to the information you just gave us. Thanks for the tips!

I have Versafine black onyx which I bought a couple of months ago. I think they may have changed the formula slightly as it does not dry instantly and I can add clear embossing powder to heat set for water colouring. It has a different design on the front now.

Thanks for this video...very helpful. You touched on the Pigment Ink beading on clear stamps - is there anything that can be done to prevent or minimize beading?? Also - you never seem to use a soft pad when you stamp. I know some stamping companies (CTMH) say to always use something under your paper when stamping. What's your opinion on this? Thanks!!

I just have to say, you are my go to for all my copic and coloring needs. I have a question, in your video you had shown how the versafine ink would distort and kind of make the lines bleed when coloring with copics. My question is, I have stamped with the momento ink, and at times my coloring bleeds just like it did in your video for the versafine. I was told it was the ink, then I was told it was the paper. What do you think? is it my paper?

I Have no problems with copic and versa fine when dry
@PrairiePaperandInk
@PrairiePaperandInk 11 жыл бұрын
if the ink wasn't completely dry that could be the cause - but more than likely it's the paper - if it's too thin or if you are coloring too heavily the copic color will bleed out and press the stamped ink out a bit making it look like it's smearing.

Hi there. That was interesting. See your brilliance ink. How you said to leave it to dry. Or heat tool it. Or it will smudge. Can you then use your markers to colour it in. Do you know please. As I have a problem with smudging. America always seem to have a lot better products than Britain. And your fancy shaped stamp blocks look fab. Do you know the brand. that make them please. Thank you so much.

It's a pigment ink like I said so it needs either time or heat for it to dry fully. Once it's dry yes you can use all sorts of colouring methods with it. The acrylic blocks are from ccdesignsrubberstamps.com :)

monica Stickles most inks will stain stamps, especially clear stamps. It doesn't affect the stamps at all they still work just fine. FYI though Ultra Clean stamp cleaner will remove *most* residual ink, but won't remove actual staining (nothing will).

pigment ink doesn't bead on clear stamps - dye/water based inks can bead/pool. As far as placing a pad under the paper when stamping it's up to personal preference. I've been stamping for years and have never bothered. If a person is having a hard time getting a good/even impression placing a pad under their paper will probably solve their problem.
