built my ZM-2 it a few months ago, and used so far only at QTH, will take portable soon, tunes my OCF 138 ft easily 80-10 meters , very satisfied .

I like my ZM-2. It tunes non-resonant wires 29, 45, 71 feet long on both 40 and 20 meters. I did find the tuning less touchy if there's 9:1 UNUN to between it and the antenna to bring down the impedance. With that and a NanoVNA, tuning is easy. I simply move the NanoVNA's SWR dip onto the band with the left knob and refine the match with the right one. I use the Nelson Antennas UNUN from eBay, but you can make your own. If you have issues, try adding a counterpoise strung along the ground to the black terminal.

Cool! Good to know. I haven't used it it but I'm pretty sure based on what I know about the Z-match I should have no problems. In fact I have some extreme ideas to put it to the test. Can't wait to vid it. Thanks for watching and love your vids.

Wow. All this great effort but it was a dozen years too soon. Will you be making more ham videos at some point?

Back in the old days antenna tuners often/usually came with an SWR indicator making a meter unnecessary. I had an old gray one I long-ago forgot the name of, which had a neon bulb which lit when resonance was reached. Tuners built in the past few decades don't have this feature, although the better ones include a meter as part of the circuitry. I just bought a Chicom $20 tuner off eBay which uses an LED that goes dark when resonance is reached ---- first time I've run across that feature in a long time. Anyone buying the kit - and many are - need to know that the photographs are wired incorrectly, and the circuit board is wired incorrectly. Only the schematic is correct. Thanks for a great review!

I'm probably pointing out something you already figured out, but you got the switches swapped. The three position should have been on the capacitor add side so you could use the zero position in the middle.

+Kevin Loughin I hate when that happens, like assemble a PL259 and you forgot to put the barrel over the coax first

n8zu, been there, done that.

Shrink tube. First business that produces a good one you can wrap on and shrink effectively _after_ you've soldered both ends of the wire, gets my money.

That's great Billy! Hope your enjoy a fairly simple build and how it tunes. It'll tune anything. 73!

Heck, I threw 80 foot of wire off the positive terminal to the balanced line and switched the switch to "Ground". Radial off the black terminal and tuned for resonance. Could hit all over europe on 20 meters back in the fall on only 5 watts. The tuner is SHARP. S-H-A-R-P!

@Radninja88 - Took me seconds to tune my wire and on the first call make a contact with the Azores on 17m with 5 watts. Literally I had just an hour to test and beat the rain before it came down. Gottem

The wiring info is good, the operating info is incomplete and mixed up.
