Thank Heri for the positive feedback, it was real pleasure to make this video. Has this Coma Corrector get's very little info, and yet this the best coma corrector I've used which my F4 Newtonian is totally changed to very different beast. The images are so stunning and they appear much sharper than ever before. I now seem to use my Newtonian more often for imaging thanks to this amazing product. Thank you for support, don't forget to hit a like, subscribe and share this video. I will be away from social media for a while, Has I'm currently in the process of moving away, so no Astronomy reviews for a while I'm afraid. But this move will defo be worth it, with new video content coming soon.

Thanks James for watching and for supporting this channel. Yes I agree what you say that there is ads creeping in, But KZbin is making it difficult to smaller KZbin Channels, I make very little money through AdSense, but it does pay towards new video content, and most of it is saved to buy new Astro gear to then review it later on. But I don't make this a full time job neither and to be honest I love making videos like this to share it out to our viewers. So I try my best to minimise the ads but it does pay me which helps towards more video content so you can enjoy and get as much advice as possible but using my own spare time and hard work, I should get something out of it. Remember it's OK to help and push free advice but little help of donation goes along way, Personally I don't like to ask for donations from viewers through Patreon account, when donations should be a charity theme to help people in difficult situations.

I respect you nor matter or what, I am nothing without your support the viewers, sometimes there is too many KZbinrs milking in the money, I totally agree what you say and I respect your honesty in this as well, I listen that you have a constructive comment and your right to say this. I am one of the few that strongly believes in Astronomy not only as a passion or interest but I firmly believe that we need to encourage newcomers to Astronomy. It's our generation that we have a important role, or a purpose to change other peoples attitude, and make them realise that reality is Science and Science is fact not fiction. And these videos is part of the program to get people into Astronomy. I am just a normal guy who survived many wars being a veteran, I turned towards Astronomy to overcome my scars of PSTD. Here we together must do the job to make Astronomy for All. But we must encourage the new generation into the hobby, and not turn it into a rich man's club hobby, this is not Astronomy is all about!!! So far I don't blame the young people, and I totally agree with them that there is a few assholes in this hobby who ruin it for us all. It's our attitudes we need to change, we need to be role models, so we need to put on the big boys and girls pants on and show leadership and respect, and get new people in Astronomy.

I am not aware that the this coma corrector will work with 2" eyepieces, has it's initially designed more for photography use. There is no 2" eyepiece holder supplied with this item, which will be needed to adapt to the Aplanatic coma corrector. But what I will do is try it out with the existing 2" eyepiece holder you get with standard F5 coma corrector. Once the weather clears I test it out and give you answer. I couldn't see why not?? The blue dovetail is a 10" Farpoint Losmandy dovetail plate, fantastic product, high grade Aluminium and very sturdy. Fits perfectly with the Quattro 8", Purchased quite a while back from Telescope Service. But there is an official Farpoint website, please check them out here: farpointastro.com/shop/farpoint-10-inch-metric-universal-dovetail-plate/

Martin Pyott Hi Martin .. fantastic! Found the saddle plate and its in stock .. so is it just a matter of swapping it over to the Quattro using its existing bolts, or do I need to get different bolts? I just ordered the 8" Quattro yeterday after watching a lot of your videos, plus I found some fantastic imaging done with the Quattro on Astrobin and Flickr. I've been away from the whole scene for almost 20 years, but use to do a lot of film imaging with hypered Fuji 400 and my 10" f/5 Newt on a big Schaefer/Buyers mount .. a rig which I still have .. but getting on in yesrs now its just too heavy to move around .. so the EQ6r I just bought, and the Quattro which is on the way are my new tools, and your videos have been a BIG help! Yeah let me know what find out with the coma corrector, I have it narrowed down to either the Baader MPCC or the Sky-Watcher and am still trying to decide. Right now I'll be imaging with my Sony A7rII untill I can afford a dedicated CCD or CMOS cooled rig. Thanks! ............... C

Right but for the wrong reason. The cause is not the primary mirror per se but the angled secondary mirror. If we trace the path of the light beam we can see that the path to the image is longer from one side than the other, resulting in the non-circular image.

Astrophotography rarely if ever uses the traditional eyepiece. Eyeball observation gathers so much less light that imaging by camera is so much more effective.

Part of the coma corrector sticks into the tube (1,5-2cm?). Does it matter? Does it cause any reflections/difractions in the light path?
@MPAstro
@MPAstro 3 жыл бұрын
It does not matter at all, as long your using the corrector for the Quattro series, the main important factor is the air gap from the corrector to the sensor of the camera!! If it's over the ideal 1mm +/- with the 55mm it cannot function properly.

Hopefully everything should pick up and recover after the crappy 2 years we had so far. Now Christmas is coming Manufacturers should be pushing out the great products once again!! Also keep in mind to remind newcomers to say away from TRASH TELESCOPES which will also be out this year for Christmas too!!! Looks like your coma corrector extends into the OTA which I'm pretty sure would cause diffraction spikes. Which is also the reason you cant collimate the setup. The comparison images of the super corrector look quite good though. Did you notice if the corrector was extending into the OTA while you taking the exposures?
@MPAstro
@MPAstro 3 жыл бұрын
Any Newtonian telescope will suffer from diffraction spikes no matter if a coma corrector is fitted on the tube or not. These spikes are caused through the spider vanes of the Newtonian telescope and bright stars will give that effect. It's nothing you can do on the instrument, other than you can process the star images out using Photoshop. But to be honest I like diffraction spikes on stars and certain DSOs like M45 The Pleiades open star cluster look awesome indeed. However some people like yourself don't like diffraction spikes in their images which I totally get it, as everyone as many preferences in their images.
@KZgun4hire
@KZgun4hire 3 жыл бұрын
@@MPAstro That's true because the secondary mirror fins cause diffraction. However the fins are usually symmetric and fine. A two inch fat protrusion into the OTA on just one side is not symmetrical. When the protrusions are not symmetrical the diffractions will usually be very ugly.

Good point in the video and is very well explained too!! Yes my focuser obstructs a little but it's 1", and the Quattro series despite being a cheaper brand, does have baffles inside the tube, Also the tube is oversized as well to allow 1" gap all the way round the primary mirror. So far I've had no real issues with the diffraction spikes that look slightly out of place as shown in the video, So why try to fix the problem when there is none to fix.

There are 2 choices the Baader one (bit expensive , optics superb but no eyepiece adaption) www.firstlightoptics.com/coma-correctors/baader-mark-iii-mpcc-coma-corrector-photographic.html or the Skywatcher (cheap, good optics, eyepiece adaption and act's like a 0.9x focal reducer speed up your optics down to F Ratio, whatever scope is???) www.firstlightoptics.com/coma-correctors/skywatcher-coma-corrector.html I know which one I would pick, however both coma correctors are good and will help your Newtonian reduce those horrible star comet trails. When think about a coma corrector make sure your telescope has 2" focuser (to accept 2" format eyepieces) Mehmet can you provide any details of the Focal Ratio please, as these Coma Correctors will only work with focal ratios between F4.5 & F6, this is crucial factor you must consider before buy these, as if you use any coma correctors which are within these limits, they will not work at all, You'll need to know the focal ratio, To find this out you can use these app called "Astronony tools" astronomy.tools/calculators/field_of_view/ Select the FOV calculator, type in your focal length and aperture, it should calculate the Focal Ratio out for you, you can even apply the focal reduction to find out what the Skywatcher 0.9x Coma corrector can do to lower the focal ratio??

@MPAstro
@MPAstro 3 жыл бұрын
You got a great project going there, with that F5 Newtonian is going to be fast imager with the Skywatcher coma corrector, expect to get as fast as F4.3. The Sony A6000 is a very sensitive camera and you can hype up a lot of ISO with very little noise compared to normal DSLR cameras. The mirrorless sensor will bring to focus to the telescope, However one important factor I need to addressed to you is? despite the T-ring, you'll need spacers to get within ideal 55mm air gap from the sensor and corrector. The mirrorless sensor is a lot closer compared to normal Canon & Nikon mirror cameras as the sensors back focus are deep inside the camera body (hence why these coma correctors are designed in a way that you can just simply attach the t-ring). These Sony's are a different beast of a camera and so spacer adapters like these are a must if you want the coma corrector to work. www.baader-planetarium.com/en/baader-varilock-29-lockable-t-2-extensiontube-20-29mm-with-spanner-tool-(t-2-part-25y).html

@MPAstro
@MPAstro 5 жыл бұрын
The Baader works very similar to the Skwatcher Coma corrector www.rothervalleyoptics.co.uk/skywatcher-2-coma-corrector.html just the Baader has better optics and coatings. However the Aplanatic Super Coma Corrector works differently as it is designed purposely for F4 Newtonian Reflectors, They eliminate coma but they also flatten the field of an image, making your images much sharper and more natural in the frame.

TS are very good and I have bought a lot things from them. This looks actually the same as the Skywatcher one without a doubt. Check before you buy to avoid disappointment.

@@MPAstro Ok Thank you! One more question, if the spacing required is less than 55m, how can you achieve that when the DSLR Backfocus is 44m and the M48 ring is 11mm? this means you'll need to reduce the spacing but how's that possilbe?

@@anthonysaab1186 Very good question, and the one you might need ask TS, as it's the optical designer quoted these measurements. The only way I think is to skim down the M48 ring (thread side) to remove material and make it slightly thinner. I believe that the coma corrector should with a +/- 1mm degree of error, as long if your within those limits even if your 1mm out you should be OK.

Hello Martin, thanks for Video! It’s nice! I have big problem with my coma corrector form Baader (Baader MPCC Mark III - Multi Purpose Newton Coma Correktor - Link: www.baader-planetarium.com/de/2%22-mpcc-mark-iii-(multi-purpose-coma-corrector-f%C3%BCr-newtons).html ). Most of the time the coma corrector don’t work good. I have “Coma form the stars” in the corner of the picture. Sametimes the coma corrector works good. I have less “Coma form the stars”, but never no coma! I don’t know why it sometime better and sometime not so good. Do you know why? I do alltime the same like you in your video. I have the same Newton (Sky-Watcher 200/800 quattro) like you. I have also a Canon cam (eos 1200D). But much more important you me is: Please tell me your experience with you coma corrector from Sky-Watcher (the coma corrector in the video). I have buy this coma corrector. I can give this coma corrector back. If you tell me that you have bad experience with this coma corrector. But I hope you tell me that you have very good experience with it. What I mean is: That you have all time no coma in the corners of the pictures. Now I hope you answer me soon and sorry for my bad English. I’m from Germany. Best wishes Andreas
