I have an important question to ask. I was tearing down a Chrysler 3.7L V6 out of a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. I haven't done anything with an engine in 30 years, before that I was a Chrysler Tech. Times have changed and during teardown, I stamped the rods and caps with the position they came from. I started going through an online manual to get the specifications. That's when I noticed the warning not to stamp the rods or I could possibly damage them. I would like to know from an unbiased machine shop. Should I replace them, just reuse them or should I get them checked by a machine shop for cracks? Please let me know I do not know what to do. Thank You! Steve

I've watched all your videos now. Thank you for the education. I think you've only talked about how you acquired a single machine, your valve grinder. Can you tell us how you came to own this business and how you acquired all the equipment? It seems like quite an investment.

Am sure he inherited it or something like that. He has millions of dollars in equipment plus the upkeep of the equipment can get more expensive as the years pass. I have not seen a crankshaft grinder yet or I missed it. I think he has about everything else pretty much. Am sure he would like a few more to make jobs easier. Cleaning parts is a big job. Degreasing and final cleaning takes a lot of time unless you have state of the art equipment. The good Degreasing can cost a you 300.00 dollars for a block or more. Then you have the heads and all the parts add up.

Installed the plug and now pressure is 30 lbs from 20 at hot idle and up to 60-70 on wot. Runs great, but now stabilitrack lights up shortly after driving at cruising speed. Still runs fine, but anything i should check. Have 2007 yukon denali with vvt and melling hv pump. Higher pressure trigger the stabilitrack?
@powellmachineinc
@powellmachineinc 8 ай бұрын
No, totally separate systems
@20tea
@20tea 8 ай бұрын
@powellmachineinc3179 I found the StabiliTrak off occurs when the system detects an issue. In my case, it was excessive high oil pressure at cruising speeds that was out of spec with vvt in my Denali. It would trigger within 5 minutes. I have a melling hv pump with a 20% high pressure spring installed, so the pressure would reach nearly 80 psi in combination with the oil plug installed. Prior to plug, it would be about 45 psi. This would be less of or not an issue if I have not installed the 20% high pressure sping in my oil pump. Vvt is sensitive to extreme high and low pressures triggering the StabiliTrak/traction control off warning minus the engine light.
@tjoyce81
@tjoyce81 8 ай бұрын
@@20tea high oil pressure is not such a good thing. Installing this plug, along with installing a hv oil pump and the strongest spring is the problem. You should install a stock oil pump, along with this plug. So, actually, YES, higher pressure will indeed cause all kinds of issues - and it could cause serious failures - like cracked rods and mains.

@ellieprice363

Oil pressure relief valves have been around since pressurized oiling systems were first used in internal combustion engines over 100 years ago. Their purpose is to regulate oil pressure and keep it within the safe range of normal engine operation.
@GrandPitoVic

@tjoyce81
@tjoyce81 8 ай бұрын
This is NOT the oil bypass valve. The bypass valve is either in the filter adapter area OR built into the filter itself. The valve in this video is the pressure relief valve found on engines with AFM/DOD systems. This valve relieves excessive pressure from the high pressured pump, of which is used on AFM/DOD engines. Blocking this relief valve will increase oil pressure to very high pressures - unless you adjust the pumps relief valve spring. DO NOT install this plug unless you make other changes to address the increase of oil pressure this plug causes... Furthermore, you did not "develop" this plug. This has been around for a long time....

Bro if you do an AFM/DOD delete which everyone pretty much that’s smart has. You want to do this. As you stated it’s only for the AFM/DOD! Also nothing more is needed because now you have a high volume oil pump which is what everyone also does just to get a little more pressure.
@tjoyce81
@tjoyce81 8 ай бұрын
@@chrisblaze6453 Bro, you actually have it backwards. You WANT this plug if you still have the afm/dod functioning. The afm/dod system needs high pressure to operate properly. That relief valve is what KILLS lifters and cam shafts. I haven a plug like this installed in my Tahoe - 365000 miles - and the afm system, lifters ALL work perfect, and always have. IF you install this plug is an engine where the afm/dod is deleted - without installing a softer spring in the oil pump - you will indeed increase oil pressure, which is really NOT good. Too much oil pressure will - in a short period of time - cause all kinds of leaks. Rear main seal, valve cover, oil pan, and main bearing side bolts WILL leak with too much pressure. Too much pressure can also crack main caps and break rods - if you have any type of induction system that produces high hp. This plug should be installed in every functioning afm/dod system LS engine - and it should be installed along with other mods on others - bro.
@20tea
@20tea 8 ай бұрын
@tjoyce81 So my 07 Denali with VVT doesn't have DOD/AFM. I could have this plug installed, but reduce the pressure in the melling pump with a softer spring right? I would benefit more with that setup?
@kooldoozer
@kooldoozer 10 ай бұрын
If the temperature is below freezing, and you don't have the bypass valve, it is very likely that the oil filter will explode and leak everywhere. Seen it happen many times to engines with a blocked off bypass. I know you are in the South, but this is not a good idea anytime an engine is started in freezing temperatures. Not being negative on your product, but there is a real need to have an oil bypass. It is not just part of the displacement on demand system. It serves a real purpose to protect your oil filter and your engine. A better idea would be to find out why these valves get stuck open and bleed pressure, instead of just eliminating the valve. -----Doozer

If what you say is true then every non dod ls would blow up below freezing. Only the dod engines have this extra relief valve. The pump still has a relief valve in it.
@powellmachineinc

This valve is secondary.....the pump have a pressure relief valve built in.... that's why this is a issue.
