Toyota Supra Shift Kit (Before & After)

I recently went to service my automatic transmission while i was at the place i got them to install a shift kit. MV Automatics in Adelaide provided the service. Its stage 1.5 Shift kit for 4-Speed A340E automatic.

I admit bit hard to see on this but if you take a look at a soarer with a shift kit you'll understand, it changes so so much faster. Takes away the laggy draggy slushy feeling when changing into second.

@GTRskylyne It really depends, ill try to explain if you have Overdrive Off so it can only go to third gear right. You drive around at any speed apart from exactly 40kmh or 80kmh and put your foot down it will slowly rev out through the rev range so from 3k - 6.5k till you reach what ever speed then change gear. But if you are driving around at 40kmh either by putting your foot down or putting it into second gear the vehicle launches forward and the revs jump from 3.5k to a really high rev range

@don94pgt Yes, since this video tho, extractors, 100cell cat and adjusted the cat back. Puts down over 150 rwk. Pretty good power to take me to City and back for Uni. Reasonably good on petrol to. I wouldn't have minded a manual, would be more fun, but this was to good condition for money, will do a walk around video to show you what i mean in the near future.

This video always seemed like the after was quicker, but i wasn't sure if it was a placebo or exactly HOW MUCH quicker. I thought the video would have been better if it was literally side-by-side, so it would be indisputable. I put these In a video editor on my phone and got the before/after linked up. "After" shift activates at 9.3sec. "Before" shift hangs on until 9.8sec. Literally 0.5sec earlier, not to mention the shift itself is about 0.4sec faster.

hey i wanted to ask you, do you always leave the OD on or what? because i leave it off and turn it on when im at high speed at the freeway. some times when its on, the yellow OD OFF light in the dash starts blinking telling me to turn it off for some reason. does this happen to you?

Probably a NA supra but i love auto ones not because its whimpy but because it fasted and handles more power, how do you have a manuap shift kit on a auto supra is it a bumpshift or paddle shifter?

In the video, u say that u can down shift to second gear when u were cruising at 40. But doesn't a regular automatic car downshift to like 2nd gear anyways when u press the gas pedal down all the way?

He was talking about doing it manually on my 01 is300 I have L which is first gear then 2 then 3 after those it will go into manual mode or drive to my knowledge it’s manually activating through the valve body

ps3phreak, im getting a 1996 jdm right hand drive supra and im getting a tiptronic automatic model, why not 6 speed? because you have to replace clutches, its slower, and if its a turbo car it looses all boost every time you shift. For me im getting an auto because shifting while on the right side of the car is alot harder

I happen to know its a supra sz which means automatic but non turbo so its only 220hp thats why its slow, there is a rz model which is everyones favorite with twin turbos and 6 speed manual, im after one called a GZ which is twin turbo automatic, so this is the manumatic transmission how do you manually shift, I havent seen a supra with bunp shifting or paddle shifters?

Study everything about your car's vital organs Vital organs include but are not limited to( valvetrain, powertrain, drivetrain, differential, axles, hub assembly, ) Ok man here is a tip. The better your motor breathes, the faster it wants to redline. Open up your motor and very carefully rebuild it from the crankshaft, out. This motor has so much potential with proper computer tuning and mechanical tuning. Custom cam work, valvework, headwork, dished pistons allow your intake and exhaust valves to open more and remain open longer. Stronger valve springs allow your valves to shut faster. Ok your motor will breathe much better now, next thing you need to focus on ( no matter what ) is your transmission. Your factory clutch can not handle the stress when you drop the clutch from a wide open throttle 4 to 5 shift after these mods. And after you upgrade your clutch, your drive shaft with twist like it was a cardboard tube. Then your axle snaps. Then your axle rips your rim because of all the torque going to the wheels. Badass cars are money. And badass cars require knowledge. Start studying

It's actually not easy to find an un-molested Toyota supra turbo with a manual transmission. I've been searching all over autotrader,Craigslist & cars.com. It seems like there are more automatic supra turbos then manuals. And when I do find one with a manual Trans it's been completely gutted into a race car. No interior no radio no anything.

drop it into 2nd yet it kicks back into first. you dont have a shift kit. all that has been done is either your oil pressure was increased or sharper shifting solinoids installed. A shift kit is neither.

Back then the 4 speed started off at 31k, and the twin turbo started at 47k.....my guess is that they're kind of like the mustangs today, most buy the cheapest model, some go with the gt and very few go with the saleen or cobras...but yeah it's so hard to find a 6 speed today thats not overpriced.

Universal technical institute student. ...all a shift kit pretty much is is just changing ur springs. less spring tension mor harder and fermer shift more spring tension = softer shift if ur the type who likes to feel that baby shift i would decrease the spring tension

You're more talking about a Stage 1 Shift kit, which is just a firmer shift and better shifting and timing in the boxes tensioned areas, But Stage 2 Shift kit (the one i obtain) needed a boost valve increased a .500 Boost Valve to be exact from transgo automatic transimissions, new plates, Billet Corvette Servo's 2nd and 3rd, and a 4L60E PUMP KIT to suit high rpm applications, so when you're on stall your gears lock much easier and are much tighter in comparison, I legit can't drive a stock box that's automatic, very sloppy, bad shift points, doesn't hold gears, and overall very slack feeling... After entirely converting my box to a new box with the stage 2 and all the "goodies" added with it, It's essentially made my car entirely different, in terms of holding gears, shifting gears, downshifting, overall shifting when driving normally... For example, you say it changes the shifts and yatta yatta yatta, but when i drive with my foot lightly on the throttle driving normally, it shifts smoother and nicer than the stock box, no slack at all, but very very smooth shifts, but when i slam my foot down or go into manual mode, it hits all types of torque band and steps out the rear wheels, in my personal opinion, it is changing tighter spring tension for firmer gear changes but there are many more factors that are changed in the process, Just like stage 3 is fully manualised and usually needs a ratchet shifter to go with it.

For Example, JDM Toyota Supra RZ comes with 180km/h and 280hp, this car can reach those 180km/h in 3rd gear at few seconds, but Japanese laws are laws =S ...But not all is bad, you can remove all speed limiters and gain all losten power with reflash ur ECU or buying one thing called Apexi Power FC, nice toy for tuners =D!!!

Shift kits only reduce the amount of slip to reduce friction, shift timing is controlled by the computer. He's probably shifting manually.
