I was so bummed when I found out my SSL SiX was made in China! Something special about made in UK.

It happened stealthily… in 2017 they were purchased by a conglomerate called Audiotonix, since then everything except for the big boards production went to China. It really does sound terrible compared to the UK built gear and now you have to spend 100’s of thousands for real SSL quality. A whole generation has no idea that real SSL does actually impart a boutique tone that hugs the signal, gives it fullness and a smooth sheen… adds dimensionality. The Chinese stuff smears like a plug-in and has brittle highs like a plug-in. It’s cheap printed circuitry of far lesser quality. They were not forthcoming about the change and they continue to claim the quality is the same. And yes, I’ve tested side by side… both the buss compressors and the X desk vs the Six.

+Luke Mcfail No its not. I was trying a wide pan cake lens. It worked most of the time.... But I have to be selective it would turn out.
