Great stuff, Parker. I’m an aspiring PM after spending most of my career in data analytics. Your videos are exactly what I need to understand: your mindset, what’s important to focus on, and tips & tricks for PMs.

Love that this is helpful. Editing up a new video to go out tomorrow on another day in the life of a pm learning to program. Let me know if there’s anything else you want to learn. Would love to hear about your career in data analytics. I have a bunch I could learn from you I imagine

Super cool video Parker! I really enjoy these “A Day in the Life” style videos, they’re helpful in providing a glimpse into PM life - especially for aspiring PMs like myself. In the future, would it be possible for you to talk more about your experience working at a small company, and if you see yourself transitioning to a larger company in the future?

Hey Salonia, cool name! Yes I’ll take note to bring that up in a future video. 😃 tell me if you have other things you want me to discuss. 👍

@@parkerrex I’m really liking the day in the life type of videos. I’d love to learn more about how you approach product vision, strategy and road mapping. Maybe about some software tools you use for those. Btw, I’m also reading Product Management’s Sacred Sevens, swipe to unlock and just finished inspired by Marty Cagan
@parkerrex3 жыл бұрын
@Jagmeet Cheema roadmapping is an interesting one. I'm always evolving the process and it's all about being a knowledge sponge!! Sacred Sevens a great desk reference to have! I liked Swipe to unlock. Lots of little factoids in there that you wouldn't otherwise know. I heard Marty Cagan just came out with a new book that I Need to checkout! Have you heard of Roam Research? I've been spending a ton of time trying to build out a personal knowledge management system in there so that I can have all my notes from the PM books in there so I can easily reference the best bits. 😀

Would love to just learn how you partner with engineers in general. How PMs can work better with engineers and what pain points are common
@parkerrex3 жыл бұрын
Yes... start by trying to get more technical so you can relate to engineers better. From there, try to be as helpful as possible. Your job is to figure out what to build and why... Engineers are supposed to figure out how.

Thanks Parker for creating this video. I am wondering If I can get your thoughts on this - I recently discovered product management but my impression so far is that I can be paid well (sweet sweet tech salary), don't need to code, don't need any special certifications/MBA/MS Computer Science (or any specific degrees for that matter) or specific experiences. Seems too good to be true. Wondering if I am missing something?

Sure- but you need to be great at other skills. People skills -Analytical skills -understanding of development -Understanding of design -How to model out features from a financial perspective

Hi Parker. I am just watching you design stuff and wondering what the designer is going to do after that! Doesn't it feel like duplicating effort?
@parkerrex Жыл бұрын
Howdy - not at all. Designers go much much further. If that’s as far as your designer can go, get a different designer.
@misse2449 Жыл бұрын
@@parkerrex Oh-kay! 😊 Would they typically collaborate on your own design and take it further or restart a fresh one based on yours. I'm very interested in this as an aspiring pm with design skills. I often wonder how little or much of design I will need to do in wireframing so as not to take over the designing. On the other hand, my itchy fingers want to put the entire landscape of the app as I'm conceiving it (usually fully formed) in my mind on Figma! Haha!

8:52 as a former product designer who is now a product director with 14 years of experience: Designers fcking hate PM's that "design" mock-ups in Figma. If you can't explain your idea it's just you being a poor PM. Simple facts, get the hell out of their Figma files lol.

I don't have a designer so sorry ;) it was the reality of being small and bootstrapped. worked to get us to $73m in gmv though.
