Prof. Dr. Pamela Michelow: Qualitative Research in Cytology (2023)

Abstract:
Qualitative and quantitative research answer different, but equally important, types of research questions. While qualitative research is gaining more traction in health research, it remains markedly under-utilized in pathology. Qualitative research is used to create insights into people’s behaviours, attitudes and experiences, inform the development of interventions and understand the barriers to their successful implementation. In this webinar, types of qualitative research and their application in a cytopathology environment will be explored.
Speaker: Dr. Pamela Michelow
Professor Pamela Michelow has a joint post, University of the Witwatersrand and National Health Laboratory Service, and is currently on the executive committee of International Academy of Cytology.
Professor Michelow has published over 90 journal articles, and books and book chapters, is an editorial board member for several cytopathology journals, has organised symposia and workshops, and is frequently invited to speak at both local and international congresses.
She has continuing interests in the utility of cytology in resource-constrained settings, visual literacy, and teaching and learning in cytology.
