My grandmothers, Aunts, Cousin’s, wife, daughter, nieces are all Iranian and are all amazing talented strong human beings. Without exception superior to most men I meet in Iran. Even at work the best managers and team workers were mostly women in Iran. The future of Iran is in their hands and there is none better. Also I got a good business idea from this talk. Create a unisex Persian court garment with the patterns and colours we see on the Persian immortal motifs. It looks really comfortable.

If you consider that at that time women didn't consider even citizen in Greece and Rome. Then you will agree that Persian were really ahead of their time.

41:59 I wouldn't call her Atossa either, I hardly know 'er! I'm sorry I'm so sorry. Wonderful lecture, extremely happy to see people talking about gender ambiguities in antiquity, and will definitely keep an eye out for the new book on Esther in the Achaemenid court.

Possibly the reason we don't see many women status in Iran in Persepolis is that after Alexander and Arab Muslim invasion, they have been destroyed.

There is absolutely a place for this artist. Blending historical mythological and modern culture is essential to human development.

Very presentation. Thank you. Only as far as I know, Mandana was Cyrus mother. Her wife name was, I think, Kasandra or Atoosa

Has forensic facial reconstruction of ancient Persian crania been done to get a glimpse of their features?
@RogTyddewi Жыл бұрын
My understanding is that no skeletons from the relevant period have been found in the archaeological record to date, so this can't be done.

Do you guys also consult with scholars in Iran when you research about Iranians? They are by far the best analyzers of Aryan/Iranian culture, language, .... I know some of them and they have super original theories based on plethora of evidence that I have heard from no western scholars. Good luck anyways.

Why does Professor Lloyd Llewellyn Jones use his academic title to advertise his KZbin channel? We just don't do that in serious academia. It's a little bit sad, and suggests both insecurity and inflated ego. A curious mix...

46:53 all Iranian archeologists agree that this specific depiction is a woman and not a Eunuch. You mentioned the no bias in the dresses and the Persian language not having gendered pronouns indicates the same that Iranians never had any intention of segregating women. You are a professor of ancient Iranian history yet you mispronounced every single name in this documentary even the most famous kings Cyrus (Kurosh) and Darius (Dariush) the greats. You show photos of women in chador which in front of Persepolis to say an Iranian artist is wrong about how he depicts actual Iranian culture? Don’t you think if he was wrong his artwork wouldn’t be so popular among Iranians? Hopefully more Iranians publish about these issues with the grip of Islamic Republic loosening on our society so people like you wouldn’t represent our culture so badly mis informed.

@@ladyterrapin1421Persian religion forbade slavery, as far as I know. They did have them later on during following dynasties. For Zoroastrian faith you were supposed to be paid for your work. I guess they could have paid their slaves but never heard of slaves in ancient Iran.

No gender in clothing! Maybe that's why Persians don't have pronoun for male or female, as it is in English.
